Our Mini Father's Day Outing To Capitola Beach, CA (Sunday, June 17, 2012)

Watch in high quality (480p). In this video, it shows our mini, last minute Father's Day outing to Capitola Beach, CA. It was actually quite warm this day, reaching to the upper 80s. So a few of us decided to go last minute to the beach. It was myself, my sister, Richie, the Catbagans and Bernadette, Jose and Shane that went. The video first shows us headed towards Capitola, CA from home. We went along Highway 152 westward towards Watsonville, CA. It was nice we went through the mountains and winding roads and through the thick dense forests. Once on the other side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, we saw Watsonville and also seeing the coastal fog hug the coastline. It was just passed 4:30 p.m. at the time when we started descending towards Watsonville. Once around Watsonville, we already know that the fog has already engulfed our orginal destination which was Sunset Beach. There was no hope of seeing a beach without any fog (as shown on the satellite from my iPhone). We, especially Bernadette, didn't want a foggy area for us to be so we headed northward away from the marine, coastal fog and shifted our destination to Capitola, CA. Then coming around 5 p.m., we finally arrived to the sunny Capitola Beach, CA! It was the only place with a beach without the fog, although the fog was still just off coast. Once we parked, I took a few minutes seeing and videoing and enjoying the scenery from Cliff Dr (where we parked). Then we all headed down a lot of stairs and finally found our spot, right by the Capitola Wharf. We ate our leftover food from the Father's Day luncheon back at church earlier. The weather was quite colder here! It was just in the lower to mid 60s with breezy conditions while back home it was still warm. It was actually still hot in the Central Valleys (etc. Stockton, CA). Later, some of us decided to touch the water. It was freezing! It was Diane, me and Bernadette enjoying the fresh, cold seawater. Richie also joined in a bit later. ***Speaking of touching the water, there was a beach special statement issued for the Santa Cruz area, especially the beach for Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk or so. The bacteria levels are very high and if water contact, it may cause illness. Luckily we didn't get ill since we are just far away enough from the warned zone. We then looked around our area and started enjoying the views and taking photos. It was around the 6 o'clock hour at this time. Seeing how the Capitola Wharf from the underside is quite cool as well. I also decided to let my feet get soaked in the sea for a bit longer. Then after we took enough photos and got satisfied, we decided to pack it up and we headed back up the cliff along Cliff Dr. It was getting quite chilly as well. As soon as we got up back onto Cliff Dr, me and my sister moved the car closer towards where the staircase was and met up with everyone. Then it was late afternoon at this point and we walked into and around the village of Capitola. It was a nice little town, with many restaurants/bars and whatnot. We also continued to enjoy a bit more of the beach view from another section of the beach. The coastal fog still aligns the coastline. By nearing sunset, we decided to head back and around the restaurants/bars area and headed to Mr. Toots Coffeehouse to get warm. We also got a bit of live music from a couple guys in the coffeehouse (as shown in the photo(s)) The time was then around 8:30 p.m. and we then left Capitola, CA. We caught heavy traffic along Highway 17. It was red all the way to Los Gatos, CA so we were stranded on Highway 17 for well over an hour. But nonetheless, we made it home safely.
