Richard Whalley Anthony Curtis, CBE (born 8 November 1956) is an English screenwriter, producer and film director, who was born in New Zealand to Australian parents. One of Britain's most successful comedy screenwriters, he is known primarily for romantic comedy films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones's Diary, Notting Hill, and Love Actually, as well as the hit sitcoms Blackadder, Mr. Bean and The Vicar of Dibley. He is also the founder of the British charity Comic Relief along with Lenny Henry.
In 2007, Curtis received the BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award, the highest award the British Film Academy can give a filmmaker. Curtis received the BAFTA Humanitarian Award at the 2008 Britannia Awards, for co-creating Comic Relief and contributions to other charitable causes.
Curtis was born in Wellington, New Zealand, the son of Australian parents Glyness S. and Anthony J. Curtis, who was an executive at Unilever. His father was a Czechoslovakian refugee who moved to Australia when aged thirteen. Curtis and his family lived in several different countries during his childhood, including Sweden and the Philippines, before moving to England when he was 11.
Love Actually is a 2003 British Christmas-themed romantic comedy film written and directed by Richard Curtis. It features an ensemble cast, many of whom had worked with Curtis in previous film and television projects. The screenplay delves into different aspects of love as shown through ten separate stories involving a wide variety of individuals, many of whom are shown to be interlinked as their tales progress. Set primarily in London, the story begins five weeks before Christmas and is played out in a weekly countdown until the holiday, followed by an epilogue that takes place one month later.
The film was released on 14 November 2003 in the US and 21 November 2003 in the UK. It debuted to very positive reviews in the United Kingdom but received more mixed-to-positive reviews in the US. The film was a box-office success, grossing almost $247 million worldwide on a budget of $45 million.
The film begins with a voiceover from David (Hugh Grant) commenting that whenever he gets gloomy with the state of the world he thinks about the arrivals terminal at Heathrow Airport, and the pure uncomplicated love felt as friends and families welcome their arriving loved ones. David's voiceover also relates that all the messages left by the people who died on the 9/11 planes were messages of love and not hate. The film then tells the 'love stories' of many people:
The Germanic first or given name Richard derives from German, French, and English "ric" (ruler, leader, king) and "hard" (strong, brave), and it therefore means "powerful leader". Nicknames include "Dick", "Dickie", "Rich", "Richie", "Rick", "Ricky", "Rickey", and others.
"Richard" is a common name in many Germanic languages, including English, German, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Icelandic, and Dutch. It can also be used as a French, Hungarian, Finnish, and Estonian name.
Curtis or Curtiss is a common English given name and surname of Anglo-Norman origin derived from the Old French curteis (Modern French courtois, surname Courtois) which means "polite, courteous, or well-bred". It is a compound of curt- ″court″ and -eis ″-ish″. The spelling u to render [u] in Old French was mainly Anglo-Norman and Norman, when the spelling o [u] was the usual Parisian French one, Modern French ou [u]. -eis is the Old French suffix for -ois, Western French (including Anglo-Norman) keeps -eis, simplified -is in English. The word court shares the same etymology but retains a Modern French spelling, after the orthography had changed.
It was brought to England (and subsequently, the rest of the Isles) via the Norman Conquest.
Many Hungarian immigrants in English speaking countries with the last name Kertész have adopted the name Curtis, since it is pronounced similarly and helped them integrate into their new community.
Four Weddings is a British reality television series that premiered on Sky Living, on 6 July 2009.
It follows a similar style to Come Dine with Me and involves four brides/grooms attending each other's weddings and rating them on:
At the end of the show, they'll discover which of the couples has won a luxury honeymoon. Viewers can also play online in the "Online wedding rater" and rate the weddings as they are shown for comparison with the rest of the public.

On TV and Film, Richard Curtis has long proved himself one of the undisputed masters of British Comedy - from Not the Nine O'Clock News, Blackadder, Mr Bean and The Vicar of Dibley to the hit films Notting Hill, Love Actually and the neo-classic Four Weddings and a Funeral. His new film, About Time is arguably the best thing he's done. A father (Bill Nighy) tells his son (Domnhall Gleeson) that he has the ability to travel through time, but only within his own life. Question is: does this make his search for love any easier? Born in Wellington, New Zealand and the son of Australian parents, Curtis is a major philanthropist, having co-founded Comic Relief with Lenny Henry in 1985; Organised Live 8 concerts with Bob Geldof; and created the Make Poverty History campaign. In this interview...

During the late 1940’s black American music was undergoing a metamorphosis both on the commercial side as well as the changing of the guard from jazz music to what would become Rhythm and Blues. Many of the big bands that reigned during the first 25 years of jazz became at thing of the past for music listeners as trio based vocalists began to dominate the airwaves and juke boxes all over the country. Out went Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman and those legendary big bands and in comes a more soulful and more personal form of black music. Charles Brown, Ray Charles, Lowell Folsom, Nat King Cole, and Louis Jordan came on the scene and sang from the depths of the schools of the church meets the blues. Vocal groups became the new form of what these architects developed in a form of music style ca...
