The King of Bahrain (Arabic: ملك البحرين) is the monarch and head of state of Bahrain. Between 1783 and 1971, the Bahraini monarch held the title of Hakim, and, from 1971 until 2002, the title of Emir. On 14 February 2002, the then-Emir of Bahrain, Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa, declared Bahrain a kingdom and proclaimed himself the first king.
The Arabic title of the Hakim, as transliterated, was Hakim al-Bahrayn (English: Caretaker of Bahrain). The Hakim also held the honorific title of sheikh.
The Arabic title of the Emir, as transliterated, was Amir dawlat al-Bahrayn (English: Chief of the State of Bahrain). The Emir also held the honorific title of sheikh.
The Arabic title of the King, as transliterated, is Malik al-Bahrayn (English: King of Bahrain). The King also holds the honorific title of sheikh.
Bahrain (i/bɑːˈreɪn/; Arabic: البحرين al-Baḥrayn), officially the Kingdom of Bahrain (Arabic: مملكة البحرين Mamlakat al-Baḥrayn), is a small island country situated near the western shores of the Persian Gulf in the Middle East. It is an archipelago with Bahrain Island, the largest land mass, at 55 km (34 mi) long by 18 km (11 mi) wide. Saudi Arabia lies to the west and is connected to Bahrain by the King Fahd Causeway while Iran lies 200 km (124 mi) to the north across the Persian Gulf. The peninsula of Qatar is to the southeast across the Gulf of Bahrain. The population in 2010 stood at 1,234,571, including 666,172 non-nationals.
Bahrain is the site of the ancient Dilmun civilisation. It has been famed since antiquity for its pearl fisheries, which were considered the best in the world into the 19th century. Bahrain was one of the earliest areas to convert to Islam (AD 628). Following a period of Arab rule, Bahrain was occupied by the Portuguese in 1521, who in turn were expelled in 1602 by Shah Abbas I of the Safavid dynasty under the Persian Empire. In 1783, the Bani Utbah clan captured Bahrain from Nasr Al-Madhkur and has since been ruled by the Al Khalifa royal family, with Ahmed al Fateh as Bahrain's first hakim. In the late 1800s, following successive treaties with the British, Bahrain became a protectorate of the United Kingdom. In 1971, Bahrain declared independence. Formerly a state, Bahrain was declared a Kingdom in 2002. Since early 2011, the country has experienced sustained protests and unrest inspired by the regional Arab Spring, particularly by the majority Shia population.
Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa (Arabic: حمد بن عيسى بن سلمان آل خليفة Ḥamad bin ʿĪsā bin Salmān ʾĀl Ḫalīfah; born January 28, 1950) is the 1st King of Bahrain (since 14 February 2002), having previously been its 2nd Emir (from March 6, 1999). He is the son of Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the previous and 1st Emir. The country has been ruled by the Al Khalifa dynasty since 1783.
Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa was born on 28 January 1950 in Riffa, Bahrain. His parents were Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, then Crown Prince, and Hessa bint Salman Al Khalifa.
After attending Manama secondary school in Bahrain, Hamad was sent to England to attend Applegarth College in Godalming, Surrey before taking a place at The Leys School in Cambridge. Hamad then underwent military training, first with the British Army at Mons Officer Cadet School at Aldershot in Hampshire, graduating in September 1968. Four years later, in June 1972, Hamad attended the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, graduating the following June with a degree in leadership.
The House of Khalifa (Arabic: آل خليفة Āl Khalīfah) is the royal family of Bahrain. The Al Khalifas profess Sunni Islam. The current head of the family is Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who became the Emir of Bahrain in 1999 and via the National Action Charter which obtained the support of an overwhelming majority 98.4 of the people, Bahrain was declared a Kingdom and Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa the King of Bahrain in 2002.
Decisions pertaining to the Al Khalifa family, as well as disputes between family members are arbitrated by the Ruling Family Council (Arabic: مجلس العائلة الحاكمة). The council attends to internal family disputes particularly those related to appropriation of land, sale of real estate and other properties. Members of the ruling family are not allowed to refer these or other disputes to ordinary law courts.
Relations between the political leadership and the rest of the "rank and file" members of the Al Khalifa ruling family have been formally managed by the council since 1932. However, on the eve of the 1973 parliamentary elections, then the Amir Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa issued a decree restructuring the Ruling Family Council to become a formal organ of the state, and giving the administrative head of the council the rank of minister.

DRIFT KING OF DESERT 17/3/2017 in bahrain international circuit It was a fantastic experience in Bahrain being the first drift event to be hosted there!! I enjoyed every bit of it as a photographer and as a spectator. Although the racers had their positions set, some didn't get what they deserved, and those who got the advantage of the judging didn't deserve it. Even if I don't know many things about judging and drifting I had a sense that something was wrong. But I ended up taking beautiful shots, and an expirence like never before!! taken By : CANON 1DX II 24mm 85mm 70-200mm K7AILANMEDIA contact us : NASH@K7ailanmedia.com or 00965-97967677

A judge at the London-based court announced on Tuesday the annulment of a previous ruling by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) that gave the Bahraini prince the special privilege. The case against Prince Nasser had been launched in British courts in 2012. The CPS had previously said that the Bahraini prince could not be investigated over allegations of being involved in the torture of Bahraini protesters in 2011. The prosecutio...

In a display of great appreciation, H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa invited many long stay expatriates to visit him en masse and discuss any issues. Nobody had any it seemed, but an 'Expatriate Committee' was formed. This is the television broadcast as shown.
