Letterboxing is the practice of transferring film shot in a widescreen aspect ratio to standard-width video formats while preserving the film's original aspect ratio. The resulting videographic image has mattes (black bars) above and below it; these mattes are part of the image (i.e., of each frame of the video signal). LBX or LTBX are the identifying abbreviations for films and images so formatted. The term refers to the shape of a letter box, a slot in a wall or door through which mail is delivered, being rectangular and wider than it is high.
Letterboxing is used as an alternative to a full-screen, pan-and-scan transfer of a widescreen film image to videotape or videodisc. In pan-and-scan transfers, the original image is cropped to the narrower aspect ratio of the destination format, usually the 1.33:1 (4:3) ratio of the standard television screen, whereas letterboxing preserves the film's original image composition as seen in the cinema. Letterboxing was developed for use in 4:3 television displays before widescreen television screens were available, but it is also necessary to represent on a 16:9 widescreen display the unaltered original composition of a film with a wider aspect ratio, such as Panavision's 2.35:1 ratio.
Letter Box is an Australian television series which aired in 1962 on what would eventually become the Seven Network. It was a game show in which contestants tried to build words using a series of letters supplied by the host.
The series was hosted by Bill Acfield, who was assisted by Myra Roper. It aired in a 30-minute time-slot (running time excluding commercials is not known), in black-and-white.
It was followed-up the following year with Party Time.
The Letter may refer to:
The Box Tops were an American rock band, formed in Memphis in 1963. They are best known for the hits "The Letter", "Cry Like a Baby", and "Soul Deep" and are considered a major blue-eyed soul group of the period. They performed a mixture of current soul music songs by artists such as James & Bobby Purify and Clifford Curry, pop tunes such as "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Keith Reid, Gary Brooker and Matthew Fisher of Procol Harum, and songs written by their producers, Dan Penn, Spooner Oldham, and Chips Moman. Vocalist Alex Chilton went on to front the power pop band Big Star and to launch a career as a solo artist, during which he occasionally performed songs he had sung with the Box Tops.
The Box Tops' music combined elements of soul music and light pop. Their records are prime examples of the styles made popular by Moman and Penn at American Sound Studio in Memphis. Many of their lesser known Top 40 hits, including "Neon Rainbow", "I Met Her in Church", and "Sweet Cream Ladies, Forward March", are considered minor classics. As rock critic Lester Bangs wrote in a review of the group's Super Hits album, "A song like 'Soul Deep' is obvious enough, a patented commercial sound, yet within these strictures it communicates with a depth and sincerity of feeling that holds the attention and brings you back often."

Long long way to go
Reading faces and trusting eyes
I realize talk is cheap and slow
Makes me choose from doors
I gravitate to worn out paint broken glass and dirty wooden floors
This daily routine slows to a crawl around here
Did you call my name Did you talk to me
Did you write it down
I'll look in the letterbox
Trying to bring it home
But I can't rewind and all this time is looking shorter than it ever did
Always a step behind
But I steal a little here and there so I can use it at the end
This daily routine never stops at all around here
So I'll take it when it comes and share it if I can
or give it all away
I'll take it to the sky just to see if it will fall
it just might float away
Did you call my name Did I just not hear
Did you drop it off
