Business Insider is an American business, celebrity and technology news website launched in February 2009 and based in New York City. Founded by DoubleClick former CEO Kevin P. Ryan, it is the overarching brand where Silicon Alley Insider (launched May 16, 2007) and Clusterstock (launched March 20, 2008) appear. The site provides and analyzes business news and acts as an aggregator of top news stories from around the web. The online newsroom currently employs a staff of 50, and the site reported a profit for the first time ever in the 4th quarter of 2010. In June 2012 it had 5.4 million unique visitors.
Business Insider hosts industry conferences including IGNITION, which explores the emerging business models of digital media. In January 2015, Business Insider launched BI Intelligence, a subscription-based research service that provides data and analysis on the mobile, payments, eCommerce, social, and digital media industries. The site each year publishes editorial franchises such as the "Digital 100: The World's Most Valuable Private Tech Companies".
The British Isles are a group of islands off the north-western coast of continental Europe that consist of the islands of Great Britain, Ireland and over six thousand smaller isles. Situated in the North Atlantic, the islands have a total area of approximately 315,159 km2, and a combined population of just under 70 million. Two sovereign states are located on the islands: Ireland (which covers roughly five-sixths of the island with the same name) and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The British Isles also include three Crown Dependencies: the Isle of Man and, by tradition, the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, although the latter are not physically a part of the archipelago.
The oldest rocks in the group are in the north west of Scotland, Ireland and North Wales and are 2,700 million years old. During the Silurian period the north-western regions collided with the south-east, which had been part of a separate continental landmass. The topography of the islands is modest in scale by global standards. Ben Nevis rises to an elevation of only 1,344 metres (4,409 ft), and Lough Neagh, which is notably larger than other lakes on the isles, covers 390 square kilometres (151 sq mi). The climate is temperate marine, with mild winters and warm summers. The North Atlantic Drift brings significant moisture and raises temperatures 11 °C (20 °F) above the global average for the latitude. This led to a landscape which was long dominated by temperate rainforest, although human activity has since cleared the vast majority of forest cover. The region was re-inhabited after the last glacial period of Quaternary glaciation, by 12,000 BC when Great Britain was still a peninsula of the European continent. Ireland, which became an island by 12,000 BC, was not inhabited until after 8000 BC. Great Britain became an island by 5600 BC.
Video is an electronic medium for the recording, copying, playback, broadcasting, and display of moving visual media.
Video systems vary greatly in the resolution of the display, how they are refreshed, and the rate of refreshed, and 3D video systems exist. They can also be carried on a variety of media, including radio broadcast, tapes, DVDs, computer files etc.
Video technology was first developed for Mechanical television systems, which were quickly replaced by cathode ray tube (CRT) television systems, but several new technologies for video display devices have since been invented. Charles Ginsburg led an Ampex research team developing one of the first practical video tape recorder (VTR). In 1951 the first video tape recorder captured live images from television cameras by converting the camera's electrical impulses and saving the information onto magnetic video tape.
Video recorders were sold for $50,000 in 1956, and videotapes cost $300 per one-hour reel. However, prices gradually dropped over the years; in 1971, Sony began selling videocassette recorder (VCR) decks and tapes to the public.

Business Insider CEO Henry Blodget and chief tech correspondent Steve Kovach discuss Apple's new iPhone X. Kovach got the phone before its release, and says he loves it, citing the functionality and screen presentation, and praising the Face ID feature. He notes that the muted excitement over the iPhone 8 release just over a month ago might've been because people were holding out for the X, which he says suggests people aren't scared about the $1,000 price tag. Blodget and Kovach talk about what the iPhone X launch could mean for Apple's stock, which has historically rallied into new product events. Kovach says that iPhone X sales will easily bleed into next quarter, because of the lead time required to pre-order one. Blodget then runs through some analyst forecasts, including Piper Jaffr...
Business Insider has gotten an exclusive look at the iPhone X, and naturally, we tried to beat its facial recognition feature by having one twin register his face and the other try to break in. The following is a transcript of the video. Greg: Greg Fieber, 36 years old. Brian: Brian Fieber, 36 years old. When we meet people initially, they always do a double-take and are unable to tell us apart. Greg: Twin #1. Yup. Twin #2. Nope. Negative. Yeah, you can't fool the iPhone X. Brian: I was pretty shocked that the iPhone X could really pick apart the details between me and my brother considering some of our own family members can’t tell us apart. So, yeah, it was a pleasant surprise knowing that Brian can't break into my iPhone X and I can’t break into my brother's. Greg: I agree. Read m...
Warren Buffett is the one of the world's wealthiest people. His diet consists of fast food and almost no vegetables. Bob Bryan ate like Buffett for 5 days. By the end, he was craving only vegetables. Following is a transcript of the video. Bob Bryan: 20,537 calories in five days. Oddly enough, I started sweating from my kneecaps, which I didn’t even know there were pores, sweat pores, in my knee caps. I’m Bob Bryan. I’m a policy reporter here at Business Insider and for 5 days I ate like Warren Buffett. So Warren Buffett is the second-wealthiest man in the world. He is the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and a legendary investor, possibly one of the most successful investors of all time. Warren Buffett eats like a child. He admittedly eats like a child. For breakfast, Buffett goes to McDona...
We went to one of the 36 Jollibee locations in the US to see why the Filipino fast-food chain is so popular. Following is a transcript of the video: Going to the Jollibee yeah! Hey, what's going on? Can I do an Aloha burger, the Chickenjoy spicy, the rice and gravy side, and then can I do the fiesta noodles, the spaghetti, a hot dog, the Spam sandwich, and the corned beef sandwich. Yo dog. Ok, I guess I’ll just start right here. The amazing Aloha burger which has bacon, cheese obviously, and pineapple. Holy crap. That is so good. The pineapple. That’s what makes it. Oh my God. The garlic with the sauce and everything, these noodles are like… I don’t know exactly what noodles they are. I will look it up and put it on the screen right… there. Reading the description it seemed kinda wei...

Business Insider's Henry Bloget and Sara Silverstein discuss Amazon's public announcement that it will open a new headquarters, and its subsequent invitation to companies who want to make a pitch. Blodget says the move puts Amazon in the running for "smartest company in the world." This is because it eliminated any sort of potential backlash that could've stemmed from the company deciding without external input. Silverstein goes through some of the more entertaining proposals, and breaks down the potential economic incentives Amazon could end up getting from the winning city. Blodget then reiterates what good salesmanship the HQ contest is, and says it offers a ton of free advertising. -------------------------------------------------- Follow BI Video on Twitter: http://bit.ly/1oS68Zs Fo...
While most people associate the Playboy Mansion with scantily clad playmates and sex-fueled debauchery, it served as the childhood home for Hugh Hefner's sons. Now 23, Hefner's youngest son, Cooper, recounts his childhood spent in what many consider to be a sort of adult fantasyland. For Cooper, it was quite the opposite: a child's wonderland fueled by Indiana Jones-inspired adventures in the Grotto, a zoo full of exotic animals, and epic games of hide-and-seek played in the mansion's private forest of redwood trees. Cooper shared his experiences growing up inside the mansion, and invited Business Insider along on a private tour of the grounds. -------------------------------------------------- Follow BI Video on Twitter: http://bit.ly/1oS68Zs Follow BI Video On Facebook: http://on.f...

Business Insider UK producers Leon Siciliano and David Ibekwe went to visit Dr. Bav Raindi, a chiropractor at the London Bridge Chiropractic, to see if spinal manipulation therapy could help with their back issues. Working in an office environment means you could be sitting up to 8 hours a day, which could cause various problems with your spine. Chirotherapy can help by discovering the points of discomfort within the body and applying pressure to the joints, producing a satisfying 'crack' sound which is the gas pressure dissolving within the joint.
