Hong Kong (香港; "Fragrant Harbour"), officially Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is an autonomous territory on the southern coast of China at the Pearl River Estuary and the South China Sea. Hong Kong is known for its skyline and deep natural harbour. It has a land area of 1104 km2 and shares its northern border with Guangdong Province of Mainland China. With around 7.2 million inhabitants of various nationalities, Hong Kong is one of the world's most densely populated metropolises.
After the First Opium War (1839–42), Hong Kong became a British colony with the perpetual cession of Hong Kong Island, followed by Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 and a 99-year lease of the New Territories from 1898. Hong Kong remained under British control for about a century until the Second World War, when Japan occupied the colony from December 1941 to August 1945. After the Surrender of Japan, the British resumed control. In the 1980s, negotiations between the United Kingdom and the China resulted in the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration, which provided for the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong on 30 June 1997. The territory became a special administrative region of China with a high degree of autonomy on 1 July 1997 under the principle of one country, two systems. Disputes over the perceived misapplication of this principle have contributed to popular protests, including the 2014 Umbrella Revolution.
Sydney /ˈsɪdni/ is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia and Oceania. Located on Australia's east coast, the metropolis surrounds the world's largest natural harbour, and sprawls towards the Blue Mountains to the west. Residents of Sydney are known as "Sydneysiders". Sydney is the second official seat and second official residence of the Governor-General of Australia, the Prime Minister of Australia and the Cabinet of Australia.
The Sydney area has been inhabited by indigenous Australians since the Upper Paleolithic period. The first British settlers arrived in 1788 to found Sydney as a penal colony, the first European settlement in Australia. Since convict transportation ended in the mid-19th century, the city has transformed from a colonial outpost into a major global cultural and economic centre.
The population of Sydney at the time of the 2011 census was 4.39 million, 1.5 million of which were born overseas, representing many different nationalities and making Sydney one of the most multicultural cities in the world. There are more than 250 different languages spoken in Sydney and about one-third of residents speak a language other than English at home.
Cathay Pacific (Chinese: 國泰航空) (SEHK: 0293) is the flag carrier of Hong Kong, with its head office and main hub located at Hong Kong International Airport. The airline's operations include scheduled passenger and cargo services to 200 destinations in 52 countries worldwide, codeshares, and joint ventures, with a fleet of wide-body aircraft, consisting of Airbus A330, Airbus A340, Boeing 747 (which are beginning to be retired) and Boeing 777 equipment. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Dragonair, operates to 44 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region from its Hong Kong base. In 2010, Cathay Pacific and Dragonair carried nearly 27 million passengers and over 1.8 million tonnes of cargo and mail.
The airline was founded on 24 September 1946 by Australian Sydney H. de Kantzow and American Roy C. Farrell, with each man putting up HK$1 to register the airline. The airline made the world's first non-stop transpolar flight flying over the North Pole in July 1998, which was also the maiden flight to arrive at the then new Hong Kong International Airport. The airline celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2006; and as of October 2009, its major shareholders are Swire Pacific and Air China. It is reciprocally one of the major shareholders of Air China. Cathay Pacific currently holds the title of the world's third largest airline, measured in terms of market capitalisation, according to the International Air Transport Association. In 2010, Cathay Pacific became the world's largest international cargo airline, along with main hub Hong Kong International Airport as the world's busiest airport in terms of cargo traffic.
Economy class, also called coach class, steerage, or standard class, (colloquially: Cattle class), is the lowest travel class of seating in air travel, rail travel, and sometimes ferry or maritime travel. Historically, this travel class has been called tourist class on ocean liners and third class, or even fourth class, on railways. In some contexts or languages it is (half jokingly) referred to as "wood class" because seats and carriages in the cheapest class were literally made from wood in the 19th and early 20th century. Another common term (both in rail travel and aviation) is "coach class".
Travel classes originated from a distinction between "cabin class" and "steerage" on sailing vessels in the 18th century. Cabin class, for wealthier passengers included small cabins and a shared dining room while "steerage" provided open decks with bunks often near the tackle to operate the steering rudder, usually in converted cargo space on the "between decks" area where passengers from poorer backgrounds cooked their own meals.
Premium economy is a travel class offered on some airlines. Positioning in price, comfort, and amenities, this travel class is leveled between economy class and business class. In 1991, EVA Air was the first to introduce Evergreen Class and had since become the first airline to offer this class of service in the world.
As of 2011, the term is not standardized among airlines, and varies significantly between domestic and international flights and between low-cost or regional airlines and other airliners. Premium economy is sometimes limited to just a bit more leg room, but at its most comprehensive can feature services associated with business class travel.\
Air New Zealand's and Qantas' Premium Economy and Virgin America's First include amenities such as premium check-in, large customized seats (some for couples, others targeting solo travelers), seat pitch up to 41 inches (104 cm) with 50% more recline, premium meals, a self-service bar for drinks and snacks, a personal in-flight entertainment center with remote control, noise-cancelling headphones and choices in games and movies for children and adults, skin care products in the lavatory, and an amenities pouch containing items such as socks, sleep masks, earplugs, and toothbrushes.

Emirates deserves the title of best airline in the world! Their service is just top notch whilst their food is actually quite tasty! We were travelling from Sydney to Venice and stopped at Bangkok and Dubai. It was a 27 hour journey but their fantastic airplanes made it less tiring. Plenty of snacks were provided, entertainment screens were very large, amenities were fantastic, and WIFI only costs $1USD for each flight! WHAT A DEAL! I only have praise for this airline so splurge out that money for a fantastic trip! Let's fly to Hong Kong on one of Cathay's four daily fights from Sydney. Overall a good flight, but is Cathay's service slipping? The crew seemed forgetful or just interested in getting their tasks out of the way before their break. They didn't put ice in my drink until asked. Forgot peanuts with the drinks. Forgot to load enough main courses on the meal trolley. Forgot to make sure cutlery was on the meal trays. Didn't offer coffee after the meal unless asked for it. Am I expecting too much? What are your thoughts?
Welcome aboard one of the newest aircraft in the skies.... the Boeing 787-9. Air New Zealand is the launch customer of the type and are currently flying it between Auckland and Sydney, soon to be followed by Perth and some Asian destinations. These Auckland/Sydney runs have been a way for the crew to familiarise themselves with the aircraft before long haul services commence. This video has been filmed in the brand new Premium Economy cabin, this particular seat is different to that found on the B777-300ER, it's a more typical recliner seat in black leather. This comprehensive video shows flight NZ104 and includes the boarding, pushback, engine start (great start sound), taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, meal service, a look at the economy cabin, descent and landing in Auckland. Flight review for Qantas flight QF25 Sydney Australia to Tokyo Haneda International airport. Aircraft Boeing B747-400 Longreach. Economy Class - Emergency Exit Row seat. Flight time 9 hours. This should have been a window seat but there was no window. When I booked the flight the seat map on the Qantas site said it had a window. When I checked in, I asked them to double check there was a window and they confirmed it was a window seat. A window seat without a window! The cabin crew offered to move me to a different emergency exit row which did have a window but I chose to stay in this seat. Very little leg room as the door is right in front. A very uncomfortable seat. You can stretch your legs out on an angle but it is a very uncomfortable position to sit in. I recommend not to choose this...
In this short trip review, we take a look at the domestic Economy Class product on a Qantas Boeing 737-800 flight between Sydney and Adelaide. The video starts off with me using the self-serve check-in and bag drop kiosks at Sydney airport's terminal 3. I then access the Qantas Club and take a took at the facilities before boarding my flight, QF 745. The Economy Class cabin and seat is reviewed in extensive detail. During the 2 hour flight, a hot dinner is served and the seatback IFE is briefly looked into. Upon arrival in Adelaide, I collect my baggage then retrieve my vehicle from the Qantas Valet. ____________________________________________________________________ Music: Plan your Abu Dhabi Stopover with Hala Abu Dhabi By Etihad Airways https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIIO_zQ...

In this short video, we take a look at the Economy Class experience on board a QantasLink Boeing 717-200 flight between Adelaide and Sydney. The journey begins with me dropping off my car at the Qantas Valet stand at Adelaide airport. The valet service lets me quickly drop off my vehicle and walk straight into the terminal to check-in. The valet can also organise a chauffeur pick-up at the destination airport and have your car washed while you are away. I use the self-serve check-in kiosk and baggage drop counter before heading to the Qantas Club to have a quick lunch. After boarding QF 1560 to Sydney, I have a detailed look at the Economy Class cabin and seat on board the B717. The flight is a bit under 2 hours and there is a light savoury snack served. I also manage to try our the IFE...

In this video, we look at my flight from Sydney to Wagga Wagga on board a REX SAAB 340 aircraft. We start off checking into my flight at Sydney's terminal 2. As I've arrived at the airport early, I purchase a one-time lounge pass to the REX Lounge. The lounge is located past airport security and near gate G2. The lounge is small but fairly underutilised. There's a reasonable buffet spread with sandwiches, wraps and cake that come out at dinner time. Free alcohol is available from 3 PM onward. Boarding for my flight is delayed due to poor weather at Wagga Wagga. After several hours waiting in the lounge, ZL 681 is finally ready for boarding. A shuttle bus takes me to a remote stand where the SAAB 340 commuter plane is parked. The plane is a single aisle all-Economy class service. There...
Initially I booked my flight with Cathay Pacific CX138 via Hong Kong. I went to the airport but found out all flights from Hong Kong onward were cancelled due to typhoon Hato. Airline cancelled my whole flight and put me on Qantas QF001 via Dubai the next day. They also given me taxi vouchers for back and forth travel to home and airport. Next day I caught my flight again. Qantas meals and in flight services in economy are below average. Only one snack was provided between the two meals. I went my self to get the other two snacks both times, as was mentioned in the menu. Also USB ports were not working to charge my phone. I checked all three seats in my row.

Please note...

It was my first time onboard British Airways' new premium economy cabin on one of their new Boeing 777-300ERs. A good experience. (16 June 2013)
Emirates full flight experience, onboard the A380, from Dubai to Singapore as flight EK404. EK404 is a flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to Melbourne, Australia, via Singapore. Flying time to Singapore is 6 hours and 43 minutes. Lunch is served after take off and light bites before landing. Service is excellent, with warm smiles and a positive customer-oriented attitude displayed by not one cabin crew but the whole cabin crew team working in Economy Class. I am very impressed by the consistency of excellent service! ice entertainment, as always, is amazing, with a wide selection of movies. I thoroughly enjoyed this Emirates A380 experience. You may read the full written flight report of my EK404 experience here: http://www.flighttravels.net/single-post/2017/03/26/Emirates-A380-Exc...
It was a very good flight onboard the A380 with Emirates, one of the best A380 flights I've experienced. Cabin was very comfortable, catering was very good. For a full safety video from an earlier EK flight, please see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEpOzp56FaM (12 Sept 2012)
A brief version of the flight from Sydney to Singapore. It was a much better flight than expected, as I'd heard some quite negative things about Qantas' inflight service, mainly onboard international flights. The inflight service was as good as onboard other carriers. (27 March 2012) For the return flight, please see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRbUqjIEZEY
