Benjamin Graham (/ɡræm/; born Benjamin Grossbaum; May 8, 1894 – September 21, 1976) was a British-born American economist and professional investor. Graham is considered the father of value investing, an investment approach he began teaching at Columbia Business School in 1928 and subsequently refined with David Dodd through various editions of their famous book Security Analysis. Graham had many disciples in his lifetime, a number of whom went on to become successful investors themselves. Graham's most well-known disciples include Warren Buffett, William J. Ruane, Irving Kahn and Walter J. Schloss, among others. Buffett, who credits Graham as grounding him with a sound intellectual investment framework, described him as the second most influential person in his life after his own father. In fact, Graham had such an overwhelming influence on his students that two of them, Buffett and Kahn, named their sons Howard Graham Buffett and Thomas Graham Kahn after him. Graham also taught at the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, first published in 1949, is a widely acclaimed book on value investing, an investment approach Graham began teaching at Columbia Business School in 1928 and subsequently refined with David Dodd. a sentiment echoed by other Graham disciples such as Irving Kahn and Walter Schloss.
The Intelligent Investor also marks a significant deviation to stock selection from Graham's earlier works. He explained the change as:
Graham's favorite allegory is that of Mr. Market, an obliging fellow who turns up every day at the shareholder's door offering to buy or sell his shares at a different price. Often, the price quoted by Mr. Market seems plausible, but sometimes it is ridiculous. The investor is free to either agree with his quoted price and trade with him, or ignore him completely. Mr. Market doesn't mind this, and will be back the following day to quote another price.
The point of this anecdote is that the investor should not regard the whims of Mr. Market as a determining factor in the value of the shares the investor owns. He should profit from market folly rather than participate in it. The investor is advised to concentrate on the real life performance of his companies and receiving dividends, rather than be too concerned with Mr. Market's often irrational behavior.

Benjamin was the last-born of Jacob's thirteen children (12 sons 1 daughter), and the second and last son of Rachel in Jewish, Christian and Islamic tradition. He was the progenitor of the Israelite Tribe of Benjamin. In the Biblical account, unlike Rachel's first son, Joseph, Benjamin was born in Canaan. In the Samaritan Pentateuch, Benjamin's name appears as "Binyaamem" (Hebrew: בנימין, "Son of my days"). In the Qur'an, Benjamin is referred to as righteous young child, who remained with Jacob when the older brothers plotted against Joseph. Later rabbinic traditions name him as one of four ancient Israelites who died without sin, the other three being Chileab, Jesse and Amram.
According to the Torah, Benjamin's name arose when Jacob deliberately corrupted the name Benoni, the original name of Benjamin, since Benoni was an allusion to Rachel's dying just after she had given birth, as it means son of my pain. Textual scholars regard these two names as fragments of naming narratives coming from different sources - one being the Jahwist and the other being the Elohist.

This book contains a lot, but I think the key takeaways from it are: 1. Decide whether you are an enterprising (active) or defensive (passive) investor. Don't try operate in a middle ground because that is where people get killed. 2. Invest with a margin of safety 3. Mr. Market is there to serve you 4. Investing is most intelligent when it is most businesslike.
Born in eighteen ninety four, Benjamin Grossbaum as he was then known grew up in New York. His childhood was blighted by poverty but he was a supremely bright student finishing second in his class when he graduated from Columbia University. The world of academia threw its doors open to him, offering him employment as a lecturer. However, it was his experience of poverty as a young child that motivated him. He wanted to make sure he and his future family would never have to experience what he went through as a child. Graham wanted to earn lots of money and fast and so he took a job on Wall Street. It was there he teamed up with his business partner, Jerry Newman, to create the Graham-Newman Partnership. This exciting new investment vehicle adopted some radical strategies in its approach to...

Warren Buffett has repeatedly acknowledged Benjamin Graham, a man he personally studied and worked under, as the primary influence on his investment approach. Indeed, there is a direct line between the record-shattering investing performance of Buffett (and other value investors) and Graham's life. In The Einstein of Money, author and business consultant Joe Carlen educates the reader on Graham's most essential wealth-creation concepts (as selected by Buffett himself), while telling the colorful story of Graham's amazing business career and his multifaceted personal life. As the author shows, Graham was a brill...

Benjamin Graham is the father of value investing with his book The Intelligent Investors (first published in 1949) still the bible for any aspiring value investing and the phrase price is what you pay value is what you get still rings true today. But how does he identify a value investment and how do we implement it into our investing as a value investor? This video will detail the two processes Graham used for value investing for defensive and enterprising stocks and the process was far from easy with no stocks meeting the criteria. Is the JSE too small or is it simple over valued? A great Q&A; session followed with some excellent ideas being thrown around but perhaps most importantly the process really got one thinking.
Warren Buffett has repeatedly acknowledged Benjamin Graham, a man he personally studied and worked under, as the primary influence on his investment . The Einstein of Money: The Life and Timeless Financial Wisdom of Benjamin Graham This is the summary of Einstein of Money: The Life and Timeless Financial Wisdom of Benjamin Graham by Joe Carlen.
The concept of value investing came in 1934, in "Security Analysis" work of Benjamin Graham and David Dodd. Later, Warren Buffett, coached by Graham, was to become one of the richest men in the world and considered by many the best investor of our time, using the concepts of value investing. Because of this, Buffett is considered the leading "popularizer" of value investing. -Video Upload powered by https://www.TunesToTube.com
