True Leaders Game Changers 2017: What it takes to make the cut

This year's True Leaders list has a new element: Game Changers. This has been created in partnership with Optus Business and we will be revealing the six entrepreneurs in coming days.

From the world of drones to driverless cars, robotics, the fight against superbugs, and biohacking, our six Game Changers are transforming people’s lives, revolutionising their businesses and changing the way we view the world.

The Game Changers program aims to unearth the individuals who are shifting the way we think about the world, who are impacting their organisations, their industry or the community with a crucial dose of ingenuity. We want to celebrate people who are trying to break the mould, disrupt and lead change from within.

Our Game Changers panel weighed up a variety of worthy candidates from business, public policy, social entrepreneurship and thought leadership during a robust three-hour discussion.

Ultimately, those in the technology, science and the health sectors shone brightest for our judges and best fitted the desire to find Australians who are leading big change.

Clear standouts

“The criteria gives us enough latitude to canvass the field and the final choices feel right to me,” said John Paitaridis, managing director of Optus Business, which is partnering with BOSS magazine in creating the Game Changers list.

“We all like to believe that game changing happens, that is why we are here,” said David Zehner, managing partner of Bain & Co. “When someone tries to shake up an industry, and some of these people have been successful in doing that, that’s a substantive change, economically, socially, at a number of levels.”

After the discussions, the judges wrote down their final choices and six names were the clear standouts. The entrepreneurs and innovators were chosen because they are having a dramatic and immediate impact and deserve to be celebrated as they strive to light up our future.
