“Goodbye, Dear Mum”: Rayhaneh Jabbari Prepares For Execution (Updated)

eg2vZynW_400x400Over international protests, according to some new sites, Iran has already executed Rayhaneh Jabbari, 26. However, Fox News is reporting that the execution has been delayed. Jabbari claimed that a former Iranian Intelligence Ministry employee tried to rape her and that she stabbed in him the shoulder to escape. Despite the fact that a drink given to her was found to contain a date rape drug, the Iranian officials still wanted her hanged and they have now carried out their intent. As she was being led away to be hanged, a guard showed mercy and gave her his phone to type a final message to her mother. Her reported message below is poignant and tragic as a final goodbye to her mother. [Update: there are both reports that the execution has occurred and that the execution has been delayed. Amnesty is reporting that the execution is “imminent.”]

Jabbari wrote:

“I am currently handcuffed and there is a car waiting outside to take me for the execution of the sentence. Goodbye, dear Mum. All of my pains will finish early tomorrow morning. I’m sorry I cannot lessen your pain. Be patient. We believe in life after death. I’ll see you in the next world and I will never leave you again because being separated from you is the most difficult thing to do in the world.”

When her mother called the prison to ask what she could do, they told her to pick up the body of her daughter.

Jabbari was a decorator who said that she was contacted Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, who arranged a meeting. She said that Sarbandi drugged her and tried to rape her after the two met at a café and she agreed to go to his office to discuss a business deal. She said that Sarbandi took her to a remote building and offered her a fruit drink which was later found to contain the date-rape drug. Her family noted that the wounds from a small pocket knife to the shoulder would not have caused death.

After her arrest, her family said that she was tortured to confess.

If she has been executed, it is another notch in the belt of Iran’s Sharia courts and medieval prison system . . . and a particularly sad day for all of humanity.

  1. The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” – Mahatma Gandhi

This latest edition of the Living Planet Report is not for the faint-hearted. One key point that jumps out and captures the overall picture is that the Living Planet Index (LPI), which measures more than 10,000 representative populations of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish, has declined by 52 per cent since 1970. Put another way, in less than two human generations, population sizes of vertebrate species have dropped by half. These are the living forms that constitute the fabric of the ecosystems which sustain life on Earth – and the barometer of what we are doing to our own planet, our only home. We ignore their decline at our peril.” (Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch – 4, quoting The Living Living Planet Report).

    Goodbye Mum Nature.

  2. With all due respect what is your definition if civilized?

As to Iran and this execution, again we are shown that there are no moderates in Iran or for that matter in the MIDDLE EAST. This happens in Saudi Arabia also. It is time for the US to take a stand against this barbarism.

  3. And soon, in a panic to contain the imagined threat of ISIL to the US we will likely compromise on the nuclear weapons issue.
Oran likely already has enough uranium to build a bomb or two, but they desire a nuclear arsenal.

The wisdom of compromising anything that would allow them to do so more easily and quickly seems insane. There already is a Islamic caliphate – it’s Iran

  4. William Hefner and Professor, misogyny is strong the world over, certainly in the USA. We may not show it in the exact same way as Iran, but its effects on women and girls is profound. I think in the savagery department, America holds its own: brutal extermination of and continuing discrimination and predation on Native Americans; except during Depression and with respect to SS, Medicare, Medicaid, to treat the bulk of citizens fairly, slavery, Jim Crow hangings, slavery in all but name after the Civil War when American blacks, mostly males, who the police charged with made up or actual crimes and sold to American corporations operating in the South, the brutal condition of American prison life, including rape and solitary confinement, the worst forms of pornography, the activities of America’s brutal police forces against blacks, Hispanics, women, occasionally poor whites, the activities of Americans in war (depleted uranium bombs leading to DNA damage of adults and offspring, napalm, anti-foliate agent orange, iron fragmentation bombs, cluster bombs and land mines that kill decade after decade once bombing has stopped, American invasions of and/or over turnings of democratically elected governments (the latest in Ukraine, enabling the empowering of a fascist element; the persistent attempts to assassinate Castro and to kill any movement toward socialism or social democracy around the world. Since the end of WWII, the deaths directly at American hands or through surrogates number well over 20 million (not including the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and other war dead), untold numbers wounded, internally and externally displaced. American capitalism is one of the most savage political systems ever to come to power on the face of the planet.

  5. Correction of above: “refusal [the missing word] to treat the bulk of citizens fairly.”

I should add also that the treatment of American citizens, especially blacks, Hispanics, and women but not exclusively, during the financial crisis and the refusal to prosecute financial criminals are yet other manifestations of American savagery; indeed, as is the whole thrust of political life since the administration of Carter, intensively getting under way with the Reagan administration, continuing on through Obama, has been a savage one in its effects on ordinary people. America’s foreign policy is marked by savagery and slaughter and maiming, all of which is now coming home to roost on American citizens themselves. We are in a new cold war in which our so-called leaders (the oligarchs who run America and the National Security State) has the effrontery of go to war in all but name against Russia and China, to grab every last drop of resources and rentier profits out of a dying order and a dying world.

  6. There are posts where the Hate the USA crowd don’t stick out so badly. When they spew their self loathing on a post like this they shoot themselves in both feet.

  7. On a related topic, I was watching the Monday Night Football game last night. A Chiefs player of Muslim faith was penalized for praying in the end zone after a touchdown. The NFL is really pissing on its leg daily, isn’t it!

  8. Ally with the moderate rebels in Syria. Train and arm them. Together wax ISIS and close down Syrian air space in contested areas. After the US is allied with the moderates against ISIS any attacks on the moderates will be an attack on the US. The US can dial the response. This will increase the power of the moderates, wax ISIS, and topple Bashar.

Give Iran an unescapable ultimatum regarding nuclear activity, no more negotiations. If Iran does not comply then Israel, (that is why the US arms them to the teeth), and the US will bomb their nuclear facilities to dust.

Support the establishment of an autonomous Kurddish state including all territory in Iraq and Syria that is predominantly Kurddish. They are the only ones reasonable, courageous, and capable to be a western ally.

Support an integrated and cooperative Iraqi government or a division of Iraq into Sunni and Shia states. In other words work together or split up.

Develop US armed incursion tactics and groups consisting of logistics, drones, air attacks, missile attacks, special forces surgical in and outs, for the next generation of wars and surgically remove the thugs from any country not aligned with a nuclear power. Boko Harum-two or three special force incursions and problem solved.

It’s time to sht or get off the pot.

  9. Noooooooo! Jabbari has been murdered. I teared up when I read this headline. I was hoping for a stay.

Meanwhile, we’re giving the Red Carpet treatment to the president of Iran in NY.

  10. As long as his country continues these atrocities, he should not be welcome here. I hope protestors ruin his travel plans.

And I furthermore believe that we should also stop giving any money to any country that follows Sharia Law, or any other form of law, that abuses human rights, such as murdering rape victims as adulteresses. Or, in this case, refusing to investigate self defense claims of a victim who fought back. Why pander to countries who hate America and despise human rights, and especially the rights of women?

  11. Nick – if the player threw down a prayer rug in the end zone and prayed to Allah the NFL would not have a problem with it.

  12. issac,

Why don’t you just ask the country to amend the constitution to include

“A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm.”

as part of our government’s charter.

The Neocons are already doing it anyway.

  13. Nick: “Isaac, You are a better Sec. of State then our current mope. However, I realize that is damning w/ faint praise.”

    Fancy yourself a Neocon Nick?

  14. Is there a cite or a link for this story? I haven’t been able to find a single article that says the execution was carried out.

  15. Theo:

The facts do not bear out your statements against capitalism. Actually, capitalism has done more to lift people out of poverty than any other system in the world, bar none. This should also be intuitively obvious, as who is better off, the poor person who depends on a monthly hand out of stale government bread, or the poor person who is able to start his own small business and sustain his family himself?

There seems to be persistent confusion about modern capitalism, as many believe that support for “capitalism” is a desire to return to days like The Jungle, and where workers are thrown into pits of asbestos. In reality, completely unregulated capitalism does not exist in America. Modern capitalism is governed (or should be governed) by reasonable regulations that keep products and employees safe, while allowing business to thrive. Gone are the days of the Lords and caste systems, where if you were not born to inherit a successful business, you were doomed to a life of hardscrabble poverty. The American Dream was an incredible, unheard of opportunity, unique in a world where your economic fate was determined at birth.

Contrast, for example, the life of my friend from Maldova, which was Socialist under the former USSR. She said everyone was equally poor and miserable. The only people who lived well were the ruling government elite. Her father operated a small business that the entire family had to hide, because they would be in very serious trouble if their government ever found out. And neighbors were encouraged to turn neighbors in for such things. She said they ate better and had warmer clothes because of this underground business. Even after the fall of the USSR, Socialism persists there with the universal healthcare. When she returned to visit family, her young son fell very ill. She had to bribe the doctor to ensure he would be cared for.

Who in their right mind would choose Socialism over Capitalism to improve the lives of everyone, and the poor in general?

  16. THEO

If you want to make someone mad, tell them (Nicky etal.) a lie. If you want to make them furious, tell them the truth. You did.

Some of the folks here don’t seem to know the difference between right wing propaganda, and history(of which they know little). And when they vote – if they do – they probably vote against their own economic interest. But give ’em a chance to vote for having SHARIA law in this country, and they’ll vote YES, just like the 1% would.

  17. The fundamentalists in this country can hardly wait to get separation of church and state implemented so they can start stoning some of us dirty hippies. It might not happen tomorrow but if things don’t seriously change here soon it’ll happen.

  18. Bob, I am fed up w/ half measures. I used to be more of an isolationists lite. But, Obama and his metrosexual Commander in Chief, combined w/ the half measures by the prior Bushes, tell me it’s time to go medieval on these b@stards. All they understand is power. They actually believe they can beat us because we have tried to be prudent. Look where the hell that has gotten us. I’m channeling my hero, Churchill. “There can be no peace w/o victory.”

  19. bill mcwilliams – in all the time I have been on this blog I have almost always disagreed with you. However, on this issue I think you mistook right-wing for left wing. Progressives are the most sharia like in the United States.

  20. There was a hilarious scene in the Simpson’s Sunday. Grandpa was given an opportunity to choose his death bed fantasy. He asked to hear Glenn Miller music while watching cops beat up hippies. mattcarmody’s angst ridden comment. I see the US Haters are all coming out. Shall I make some popcorn?

  21. That is totally messed up and has nothing to do with Sharia in any true sense. Did the guy guy die from being stabbed in the shoulder? Rape is a capital crime in that country so why isn’t self defense respected? It seems that had she passively accepted it, she would have been called immoral. Can’t win in some places, can you??

  22. ” Progressives are the most sharia like in the United States.” Paul C Not that I have noticed. Right wingers are generally the ones that want state sponsored religion.

  23. No, Nick, I prefer Raisinettes or Jr Mints for a good show.

No one ever argues with the facts, or the Economist article. It’s always an emotional argument. They just FEEL right. There MUST be Amish who stone, flog, and behead people out there, because they’re fundamentalist Christians. Or they confuse freedom OF religion with freedom FROM religion. Christians just HAVE to be as bad as Muslims, even though Muslim extremists are the only ones suicide bombing and beheading people en masse.

MCS: I suggest you learn about Sharia jurisprudence. Because each and every country that practices Sharia Law has similar sentences for rape victims, homosexuals, etc. They apply the law of the Qu’ran literally. I have an excellent book on the topic written by a Muslim lawyer, and will try to dig it out to share the title.

  24. PAUL-

Have you ever taken a course in logic or debate? I ask because you make so many unfounded, evidence-free statements. Name one progressive or liberal government in the world that has Sharia law. You can’t, because only countries that have right wing governments and/or dictators have Sharia law.

  25. Issac you sound like a convicted Neocon. Like that is really going to solve the worlds problems. A giant Siraq State because they are tame compared to Iranians

  26. SWM and Bill W,

Of course it wouldn’t be called Sharia Law if the theocrats had their way. It would be called Eye for and Eye Law, or Jesus Law, or simply Morality Laws. I remember sermons about “lukewarm” Christians and the admonitions by the Pastor that God would spit out the lukewarm Christians, He demands you to be on fire for Christ! No taking the Bible literally in fundamentalist Christianity! Nope.

  27. Who is the bigger Bogeyman for Dems, the Koch Brothers or Pat Robertson? Just from reading all types of news sources I would say the Koch’s. What if one of the Koch’s married Pat Robertson? Wait, that wouldn’t work.

  28. Don’t get me wrong, if the facts in the article is true, that is a serious problem with Iranian justice, ab initio. That being said, the fact pattern presented is one of, at the very minimum, imperfect self defense, hardly anything that would justify capital punishment. Something tells me that there is more than meets the eye here, that she was probably convicted of murder and that it was her DEFENSE that she was being raped.

  29. Yikes, I need to put my glasses on. There should be a period after penalty. Christians of the progressive variety are most often against the death penalty

  30. annie,

agree. Pat Robertson would be the A.G,, and Joel Osteen would be the head Mullah, and Jimmie Swaggert would be the sermon Imam – or whatever the equivalent is called. Salt Lake City would be renamed Qum Lake City.

    Dredd ~

    Dominion has proven itself ruthless.
    =============================
    Yep.

One of the reasons is that they do not know where they are or they would see the folly in their dominionism (You Are Here).

  32. Seems like the “good ol’ days: here. The post is about Sharia law and the Dems here are talking about Christian conservatives. Throw back Tuesday?

  33. “The long-term goal of Christians in politics should be to gain exclusive control over the franchise. Those who refuse to submit publically to the eternal sanctions of God by submitting to His Church’s public marks of the covenant-baptism and holy communion, must be denied citizenship, just as they were in ancient Israel.”

“So let us be blunt: we must use the doctrine of religious liberty to gain independence for Christian schools until we train up a generation of people who know that there is no religious neutrality, no neutral law, no neutral education, and no neutral civil government, Then they will get busy in constructing a Bible-based social, political, and religious order which finally denies the religious liberties of the enemies of God.”

    -Gary North

  34. Nick: “it’s time to go medieval on these b@stards. All they understand is power.”

Who are you talking about Nick; and why?

And which one of our founding fathers said Israel should be dictating our foreign policy?

  35. Update on the NFL story: Abdullah thought it was for sliding. Not clear what the ref was thinking.

For its part, the NFL said Tuesday morning that Abdullah should not have received a penalty.

NFL spokesman Michael Signora told AP that ”the officiating mechanic in this situation is not to flag a player who goes to the ground as part of religious expression, and as a result, there should have been no penalty on the play.”

NFL will be updating and clarifying instructions for officials.

  36. @swm

There isn’t a whole lot of difference between religion and law. They both work to proscribe certain behaviors in order to have a better society. The opposite of religion isn’t “the state”, it’s anarchy.

Religion is just a convenient whipping boy for the pro-abortion crowd, and the Gaystapo.

  37. Bob, ISIS. I see them as no different than Hitler. Both Hitler and ISIS were quite forthcoming in their intent, world domination. Hitler’s manifesto was race based, ISIS, religion based. And, like w/ Hitler, the world is putting their heads in the sand and hoping it all goes away. We need a Churchill. I see no one even close. We have discussed Israel previously and disagree civilly.

  38. Update: there are both reports that the execution has occurred and that the execution has been delayed.
    ========================

    Schrödinger’s execution

  39. I used to sell beer and was also a season ticket holder @ Arrowhead Stadium. For a proper prayer, Abdullah should have been facing south/southeast to find Mecca. He was facing straight east.

  40. “Religion is just a convenient whipping boy for the pro-abortion crowd, and the Gaystapo.” That was the theme at the recent Values Voter’s convention but many religious people do not want a fundamentalist christian state religion whether they are catholic, jewish, muslim, hindu buddhist, quaker or agnosic or atheist or some other religion that I did not mention.

  41. An excellent posting by Mike Appleton which references the article “A Nation Under God” (linked below):

    jonathanturley.org/2014/09/28/religious-freedom-and-the-values-voter-summit/

    “A Nation Under God”

“Let others worry about the rapture: For the increasingly powerful Christian Reconstruction movement, the task is to establish the Kingdom of God right now, from the courthouse to the White House.”

  42. Squeeky:

Actually the root of the word “religion” is the Latin verb “religare,” which means to bind back or reconnect, e.g., with God. So the opposite of religion would be an unbinding from God, or unbelief. Your view apparently is that religion is essential to avoid anarchy. I believe that reason is essential to avoid anarchy. History has repeatedly taught us the wedding of religion and government inevitably results in tyranny,

  43. @Mark Appleton

You said, History has repeatedly taught us the wedding of religion and government inevitably results in tyranny,

I suspect that History has also repeatedly taught us that the wedding of no religion and government inevitably results in tyranny, too. The upshot is, that you end up with tyranny either way. Sooo, maybe you should blame government, and not religion.

I also think that reason is way over-rated as a motivator of human behavior.

    Squeeky Fromm
    Girl Reporter

  44. Nick –
Give the lad a break. He had just scored a touchdown in a bowl of a stadium. He can be forgiven if he wasn’t exactly sure which way Mecca was. As for the NFL, they couldn’t find their way out of a paper bag.

  45. Precisely SWM.

When so many religious types get all incensed over any criticism of any aspect of Christianity, they are either fundamentalists themselves or simply haven’t done their homework on Christian fundamentalism or fundamentalism in other world religions and the extreme views they possess.

  46. “I suspect that History has also repeatedly taught us that the wedding of no religion and government inevitably results in tyranny, too. The upshot is, that you end up with tyranny either way. Sooo, maybe you should blame government, and not religion.”

Maybe we should spell cat with a k as well.

  47. maxcat, I’m the one who brought up the topic and I think it’s horseshit there was a penalty called. I have slammed the NFL for many things and this is another stupid call I slammed them on.. But, making sure you are facing Mecca when you pray is a BIG DEAL if you’re Muslim. I saw Muslims when I was in Leavenworth teaching new inmates exactly where to face when praying. It’s not for me. He’ll he was sort of facing St. Louis, that’s good enough for me.

  48. Bob, I am a patient and prudent man. I needed patience and prudence in my line of work. I don’t think it’s a dog whistle. Many were taking your view about Hitler in the 30’s.

  49. Nick,

Comparing ISIS to Hitler is a rather hasty generalization for such a prudent man as yourself.

And besides, we have nothing against Nazis anymore. Why else would our own State Department “midwife” a putsch in Ukraine for the Neo-Nazis?

  50. Bob, In baseball the maxim is, “It’s better to trade a player too early than too late.” Well, w/ ISIS, I would rather confront them too early than too late. We almost were too late w/ Adolph.

  51. bill mcwilliams – I have taken a couple of logic courses and gotten A’s in them. The type of thinking used by Progressives and the type of thinking used by Sharias is exactly the same.

  52. Gee Nick,

Are you going after ISIS or Syria?

The dog whistle says you should seize the opportunity to combat ISIS and oust Assad in Syria.

Remember; what’s good for Israel is good for America. “Securing The Realm” they call it.

Or haven’t you been listening closely to your neocon friends?

  53. Nick,

I guess you have no problem defrauding the “ham & eggers” of this country with a quick slight of hand between ISIS and Syria?

You wouldn’t mislead them; would you Nick?

LMAO! Ok thanks for the joke Paul, that made my day! XD

  55. (Reconstructionists angrily denounce end-times visions like those of Tim LaHaye’s Left Behind series: If these are the Last Days, American Vision’s website points out, “then why bother trying to fix a broken world that is about to be thrown on the ash heap of history? Why concern ourselves with education, healthcare, the economy, or peace in the Mideast? Why polish brass on a sinking ship?”)

Thank God for this anyway. He is going to have to keep them happy with the rest of the twaddle. That is really interesting. thanks for the link

  56. Nick,

    My plan for what Nick?

For Ukraine? Throw Victoria Nuland and Geoffrey Pyatt in prison and apologize to Russia.

For ISIS? I suppose the best strategy would be an eschatological one. Find the Hidden Imam; prove the existence of God. That sort of thing would end all Jihads for sure.

  57. “A 10-day reprieve”?

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-29429942

“A campaign calling for a halt to the execution of Reyhaneh Jabbari was launched on Facebook on Monday

An Iranian woman due to be put to death for killing a man she said was trying to sexually abuse her is reported to have had her execution postponed.

Officials said on Monday that Reyhaneh Jabbari, 26, had been transferred to a prison west of Tehran to be hanged.

But activists claimed on Tuesday that an online campaign had persuaded the state to give her a 10-day reprieve.

The human rights group Amnesty International said she was convicted after a deeply flawed investigation.”

  58. Obama LYING to the U.N.

“Russia’s actions in Ukraine challenge this post-war order. Here are the facts. After the people of Ukraine mobilized popular protests and calls for reform, their corrupt President fled. Against the will of the government in Kiev, Crimea was annexed. Russia poured arms into Eastern Ukraine, fueling violent separatists and a conflict that has killed thousands. When a civilian airliner was shot down from areas that these proxies controlled, they refused to allow access to the crash for days. When Ukraine started to reassert control over its territory, Russia gave up the pretense of merely supporting the separatists, and moved troops across the border.

This is a vision of the world in which might makes right – a world in which one nation’s borders can be redrawn by another, and civilized people are not allowed to recover the remains of their loved ones because of the truth that might be revealed. America stands for something different. We believe that right makes might – that bigger nations should not be able to bully smaller ones; that people should be able to choose their own future.”

  59. “SWM – Christians of the progressive variety are an oxymoron. ;)’ Paul C Not really, once you get out of the south.

  60. Obama LYING

    Good comment Squeeky.

I would add a culture can survive the absence of religion if it were replaced by reason. Unfortunately, we’ve given up on both and the only thing left standing is government.

  62. Mike – I just want to follow your logic here. So, anarchists are unreasoning? And would the logical step be that they are also illogical? Could this be a legal defense?

  63. maxcat06 – I thought good Muslims carried compasses that pointed to Mecca so they could pray in the correct direction.

  64. Annie – I am as serious as a cold sore. My comment should be a wake-up call to you and your fellow Progressives. It won’t, but it should.

  65. Well known conservative writer for Buckley’s National Review, Kevin Williamson, proposes hanging for women who have abortions, the doctors and nurses who perform them, and hospital staff who approve them.

    http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/43891_National_Reviews_Kevin_D._Williamson-_Women_Who_Have_Abortions_Should_Be_Hanged_and_So_Should_Doctors

Just to be perfectly clear – Williamson, who proposes Sharia type punishments, is conservative. He is not a progressive. You will not find one single Progressive who would ever dream this crap. I assure you, there is more than one conservative who agrees with Williamson.

  66. jonathan,

If you check your spam filter, you’ll find 10-15 attempted posts of mine regarding Obama lying to the U.N. about Ukraine.

That would have been the follow up to my “mocking and deriding liars and sneaks” comments; had the filter not gotten in my way.

  67. Bob, Esq.,

I liked the first article that you posted at the other place. Too bad personal exchanges distracted from discussion of the content.

  68. Fellows, quite an interesting blog. Seems we have a very serious problem here in this country and we shoot the breeze about such a delicate problem as a woman being executed for defending herself. ISIS has said they will come here and we will see Sharia law here. It appears they are keeping their promise. Looks like the donkeys/Jack as_es in Washington should start using their brains and believe them. We don’t even secure our borders, WHY, we ask? Good Question! Why isn’t POTUS worried? Good question! Yes, these rats will come here….in fact they are here already. POTUS won’t call the be-headings here what they really are…………TERRORISM! He and his sidekick, Mr. Holder, say that is merely “WORKPLACE VIOLENCE”. REeeeeeeeally?

ISIS will not likely come here, because they are already here, every dumb-ass in this country has a cell phone. ISIS will use the dumb easily led domestics “Lone Wolfs” at first. It is strange that women seem to be the ones who are most in danger from ” the present type of “WORKPLACE VIOLENCE” which we all know is terrorism. We have already had Sharia Law killings in this country by the girls own fathers, it is here and that golfing loving, donkey in the W H needs to recognize that it is here, OH but, he is trying to divert our attention to other countries and their problems and not face the fact that we are already invaded. The radical muslim religion is out to kill all that do not believe the way they do and women are the easiest to kill. The men are a little harder so after many more incidents of “workplace violence” they will start killing more. You fellows and ladies need to read the Koran and know what they truly think of us. The next woman killed for defending herself from being raped may literally be here if America doesn’t wake up and rid this planet of this cancer. Women to those savages are chattel, easily replaced and should have to walk around wearing a tent and not be able to leave the house without a man (relative) with them. Gays you and agnostics are also hated, so are scantily clad women and anyone who will not accept their deity as a God. …….you get the message. THEM KILLING US IS JUST RIDDING THIS WORLD OF ALL THE THINGS THEIR GOD ASKS THEM TO KILL. What is murder to us, is a blessed occurrence to their deity. SICK HUH?

IF America doesn’t light a fuse under this CONGRESS AND THE DISINTERESTED POTUS and open their eyes to what is truly happening, I am afraid there will be many more killings and beheadings and it will be against us not in a foreign country. Seems It may have already begun.

  69. Jack,

Thanks. I get the feeling though that the paragraph I dedicated to Victoria Nuland and her neo-Nazi coup in Ukraine went over most people’s heads.
Which is why I doubt anyone understands why called Obama a liar for what he said at the U.N. above.

  70. Yeah, hand in hand like Mike’s Profound comment here – Actually the root of the word “religion” is the Latin verb “religare,” which means to bind back or reconnect, e.g., with God. So the opposite of religion would be an unbinding from God, or unbelief. Your view apparently is that religion is essential to avoid anarchy. I believe that reason is essential to avoid anarchy. History has repeatedly taught us the wedding of religion and government inevitably results in tyranny,

    Speaking of Dewar

  71. Doubt it went over too many heads as there have been reports of neo-nazi groups on both sides of the Ukrainian conflict. There is a long history of anti-semitism in the Ukraine.

Mike – that is looking into the eye of the hurricane and everyone I make this observation too dissembles

  73. BarkinDog: ” And if ISIS takes over Iran the difference will be……”

Kaboom and nothingness…………….Ever heard of Japan… a big mushroom cloud! It means POTUS did what he set out to do, Those who are left better learn to speak whatever language the Muslims speak. POTUS has no intention of keeping Iran from building a NUKE. He despises Israel and really does not care what happens to America ………….His book “Dreams of my Father” referred to us as the “Ugly Americans” and “O” is now our Pres. He refuses to protect our borders and He and Holder insist on tying the hands of the Police and unfortunately the military. I see it as an open invitation for ISIS to come to America. My opinion.

    Docmadison:

“Well known conservative writer for Buckley’s National Review, Kevin Williamson, proposes hanging for women who have abortions, the doctors and nurses who perform them, and hospital staff who approve them.
“:Just to be perfectly clear – Williamson, who proposes Sharia type punishments, is conservative. He is not a progressive. You will not find one single Progressive who would ever dream this crap. I assure you, there is more than one conservative who agrees with Williamson”

    ——————————————————-

Let me be perfectly clear!, I vehemently disagree with you. I am a conservative and never would I ever or any of my conservative friends believe such crap. I do not believe in abortions and I cannot believe a true conservative would want to cause harm to the misguided who perform such things. Right is right and wrong is wrong and abortion is murder. Like puppy mills, I would run them out of business, yes but harm them no. Williamson may say he is conservative but he is far from it.

  74. My Father was an Agnostic and taught me more about love than anyone. Who are we to judge. He never said anything about it and went to Church with my Mother. I didn’t even know until after she died when I was 19 when I was trying to tell all of you about that on the Hobby Lobby thing and you wouldn’t listen.

  75. Paul, yet you say you are agnostic, or was that atheist? Lots of bogeymen today I see. So secular humanism is poisonous to who?

  76. Annie – I am agnostic and I am NOT a secular humanist. And secular humanism is poisonous to the world and all it touches.

  77. The philosophy or life stance of secular humanism embraces human reason, ethics, and philosophical naturalism while specifically rejecting religious dogma, supernaturalism, pseudoscience, or superstition as the basis of morality and decision making.

Agnosticism is the view that the truth values of certain claims—especially claims about the existence or non-existence of God, as well as other religious and metaphysical claims—are unknown or unknowable.

Agnostic theism. The view of those who do not claim to know of the existence of any deity, but still believe in such an existence.

What camp are you in Paul. Seems we are dancing in the dark

  78. swarthmoremom: “Doubt it went over too many heads as there have been reports of neo-nazi groups on both sides of the Ukrainian conflict.”

    swarthmoremom,

If you read any article saying there were neo-nazi groups on both sides of the Ukrainian conflict, it was either authored by Sarah Palin or was a joke or both.

Red Sector and Svboda, etc., are strictly Kiev and anti Eastern Ukrainian.

Poroshenko refers to the Eastern Ukrainian as “parasites” and the neo-Nazis that burned Eastern Ukrainians alive in Odessa called them Colorado Beetles; chanting “burn Colorado burn” as they burned them alive.

And now they’re finding mass burial sites near Donetsk courtesy of Red Sector and Kiev.

Funny, I don’t recall that topic coming up during Poroshenko’s visit to the U.S.

  79. The US should get out and stay out. There are no moderates in the Middle East. The best we will get, if we are very lucky, is another Saddam Hussein.

Let them fight it out. Why is it always Americans that need to go and do all the killing? Seems to me, maybe the nations in the region should either clean up their own mess, or once ISIL takes over the boondoggles of American hubris (Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan), then we take on ISIL.

The conservatives always cry out when they think the government is meddling in their affairs, why is it that they never seem to care when that meddling is against someone else? How much more debt should the US take on? When will there be enough dead Americans, with nothing to show for it, for the American people to wake up to the pointlessness of our war adventures?

What makes anyone think a third war will secure the US to any greater degree than the last two? If anything, our meddling in the Middle East has done nothing but create a new generation of murderers. When the people of Iraq support ISIL more than the US, I’d say it is time to let Iraq rise or fall as a nation. It isn’t our problem, we gave them BILLIONS, it is time they prove they have the right to exist.

The US is not the world police. The US cannot win a war if they never finish them. Didn’t we learn anything from Viet Nam, or the two Iraq wars, or the quagmire that is Afghanistan?

Either conquer the world, or get out of other countries problems. No more of this 40+ years of playing sides hoping we find the reasonable warlord, or benevolent dictator.

  80. http://www.newrepublic.com/article/117759/anti-semitism-rising-russia-simon-wiesenthal-center-accuses-rt “Unfortunately, despite Moscow’s assertions that it needs to protect Russian speakers from the fascists and anti-Semites now in power in Kiev, the rise of Russian nationalism at home has brought with it an ugly tide of Russian anti-Semitism.

The Russian Jewish Congress, for instance, issued a report saying that there has been a marked increase in anti-Semitism in Russia in the first four months of 2014. Though there were no physical attacks on Jews, there were some minor incidents—everything from cemetery attacks to Russian nationalist thugs chanting anti-Semitic slogans. But most of this rise, the Congress reports, “was manifested first and foremost in public anti-Semitic statements, the number of which has increased dramatically.” “

  81. “If you read any article saying there were neo-nazi groups on both sides of the Ukrainian conflict, it was either authored by Sarah Palin or was a joke or both.”Bob There are many, many articles about the anti semitism on both sides. Whatever side they chose to be on, many of these people are descended from those that rounded up the Jews and killed them. Some of the elderly ones very well could have been the shooters. As you know there is a long history of anti semitism in the area. Actually most of the remaining Jews have immigrated to the US or Israel.

  82. swarthmoremom

Interesting articles; thank you. I take back the Sarah Palin remark.

However, let me clarify my point. The organized neo Nazi military units, carrying out a government backed agenda of ethnic cleansing, are strictly from Kiev.

From one of your articles: “the Russian neo-Nazis “do not have their own military units, but their members are included within other units”.

  83. Paul, just caught this comment. We don’t know what “God” is. The word is ancient and puts one in mind of a “Divine Mover” Are you speaking of something like Emergence?

  84. happypappies – first you are up really really late. :) To me a Divine Mover is one who guides us in our lives, one we can pray to for help and guidance.

  85. Paul, looks like we ended that thread. lol yeah, I don’t keep regular hours. It was hot and I wouldn’t turn on air. lol Since we don’t know what “God” is to “Pray” doesn’t have to be “Corporate” When I go to Church with my Husband to do Good, I see Jesus in many People. I truly don’t pretend to understand what someone meant about everlasting life and the end of times 2000 years ago. When I read the Gospels and some of the Old Testament Books like Isaiah and Jeremiah I can feel something of the “Glory of the Lord being revealed” Not in any human sense whatsoever. Nothing that is really tangible.

I have a friend on Facebook that I go back and forth with who is a Nuclear Physicist. He is in hibernation now I guess but he is Skeptical however, he knows that Music, Math and Physics have something Spiritual about them. We have shared The Circle of Fifths Law in Music, The Golden Ratio which does a lot of interesting things. But these things imo are just past understanding. Which is why I asked you about emergence.
