True Scary Stories about Sleep Paralysis which is very scary & some believe it is caused by demons. Sleep paralysis is an inability to move or speak as you go from sleep to wakefulness. Some believe demons are the reason. I realise that Sleep paralysis may sound unbelievable to some people, who have never experienced this before but there is a chance that you will one day. For many people you wake up from sleep, you feel like someone is standing over you in the darkness. You try to move your head but you are unable to move to see if there is something with you, It feels as if something evil is holding you down. You try and attempt to move but struggle to move your arms and legs, You are frozen and unable to do anything feeling paranoid of what is going to happen, when you first experience this it is quite frightening, but please feel assured you are not in danger if this does happen to you, it happens to alot of people all over the world. It's believed that around 30% of young adults experience Sleep paralysis at least once in their lives, It can last anything from a few seconds to a few minutes and on rare occasions to a few hours at a time. what myself and ahmed find extremely strange about sleep paralysis, is that alot of people describe the same feelings of someone breathing behind them, or when laying on there front they feel like something is pushing down on them, Hallucinations would be an ideal explaination, Only if everybody didn't describe the same hallucinations, this alone makes it very strange in our opinions. Sleep paralysis is something i (Glen) have experienced and also ahmed has to, i have experienced sleep paralysis on 4 occasions over the years, My last experience was when we investigated Icen Way in dorchester, the night before we done the investigation i suddenly woke up and could open my eyes, but i could not move any part of my body, i was trying very hard to move my arms to try and force myself out of this state, at the same time i could hear heavy breathing behind me but i couldn't turn my head to see what it was, on all 4 other occasions i have experienced the same sort of thing, the first 2 occasions this happened to me it did frighten me, but the next 2 occasions after that i managed to calm myself down when this was happening to me and i noticed the episodes ended alot faster by me remaining calm. Ahmed has also experienced sleep paralysis on 3 occasions, his experiences have all been in the last year or so. one experience ahmed had where he was feeling quite tired and was ready to go to sleep when suddenly he felt paralyzed, at the time he was laying on his side, ahmed could not move any part of his body, he tried to yell out for help but nothing came out of his mouth, at the same time he reported hearing heavy breathing and also felt like something climbed into bed with him, BUT he could not move his head to see what it was, this was a very frightening experience for him. Science does not believe in the religious theories as to why we experience sleep paralysis, they strongly suggest that sleep paralysis is related to REM sleep, and in particular REM sleep that occurs at sleep onset. shift work, jet lag, bad sleeping habits, being overtired and not sleeping enough hours and being under alot of stress are all considered to be factors that could cause sleep paralysis, this could be because these events disrupt the sleep and wake cycle, which can then cause sleep-onset REM periods, REM Stands for Rapid Eye Movement.
