Paris

Paris (UK: /ˈpærɪs/ PARR-iss; US: ⁱ/ˈpɛərɪs/ PAIR-iss; French: [paʁi]) is the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the région parisienne, "Paris Region". The City of Paris has an area of 105 km² (41 mi²) and a population of 2,241,346 (2014 estimate) within its administrative borders essentially unchanged since 1860.

Since the 19th century, the built-up area of Paris has grown far beyond its administrative borders; together with its suburbs, the whole agglomeration has a population of 10,550,350 (Jan. 2012 census).Paris' metropolitan area spans most of the Paris region and has a population of 12,341,418 (Jan. 2012 census), or one-fifth of the population of France. The administrative region covers 12,012 km² (4,638 mi²), with approximately 12 million inhabitants as of 2014, and has its own regional council and president.

Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic people called the Parisii, who gave the city its name. By the 12th century, Paris was the largest city in the western world, a prosperous trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe. In the 18th century, it was the centre stage for the French Revolution, and became an important centre of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts, a position it still retains today.

Mark Knight

Mark Knight (born c. 1960s) is the editorial cartoonist for the Herald Sun, a daily tabloid in Melbourne, Australia. Knight was also the last editorial cartoonist for one of the Herald Sun's joint predecessor newspapers, the afternoon broadsheet The Herald

He created Leuk the Duck, short for Leukemia, a mascot for Challenge, a cancer foundation to provide a visual impetus for kids with cancer. It has consequently been used in all educational material produced by Challenge.

Childhood

Knight was born and raised in Sydney. He grew up in Lakemba, attended Wiley Park Primary School, then Narwee Boys' High School. He said there hasn't been a time when he didn't love to draw. He started a cadetship in 1980 in the Fairfax art department, filling in the black squares in the crossword grids. He went to East Sydney Technical College and studied life drawing, painting, drawing and etching.

Knight's father taught him to love drawing. When he was a little boy, his father would draw for him. Mark's first cartoon's were of his family and their idiosyncrasies, drawn on Christmas Day or at other family gatherings.

Perfect (Exceeder)

"Perfect (Exceeder)" is a collaboration between Dutch band Mason and American rapper Princess Superstar. The track is a mashup of Mason's 2006 instrumental dance track "Exceeder" and Princess Superstar's 2005 single "Perfect". It was used in television commercials for the film Brüno, as well as being featured in the game Wipeout HD. It has also been covered by edinburgh's indie electro band "Epic26". The song has been sampled by 813 in their track "Sunny Lemonade".

Music video

The music video is directed by Marcus Adams. It stars Lauren Ridealgh, Casey Batchelor and Lisa Shepley as gymnasts who mime to the lyrics performed by Princess Superstar. Valentina Bodorova appears as a genuine rhythmic gymnast acting as bodydouble.

Critical reception

At the 23rd Annual International Dance Music Awards, "Perfect (Exceeder)" was nominated in the category "Best Breaks/Electro Track," but lost to "Love Is Gone" by David Guetta.

Chart success

The track became a big hit in the club scene in late 2006, especially across Europe and Brazil. The track was officially released via Data Records on 22 January 2007 in the UK. The track entered the chart at #11 one week before the physical release, based on downloads. Upon the week of its physical release, the track moved up eight spots to #3. In The Netherlands the song entered the Top 40 at #54 (eventually peaking at #11) and was the DanceSmash of the week.

Princess Superstar

Concetta Kirschner (born February 25, 1971), better known as Princess Superstar, is an American rapper and DJ.

Her musical style, as she describes it, is "flip-flop"—a mixture of hip hop, electroclash and electronica. In summer 2014 she debuted her reality television show "I Love Princess Superstar" on her YouTube channel.

Background

Kirschner was born in Spanish Harlem, New York City, New York to a Jewish father with ancestry from Russia and Poland, and a Sicilian-American mother who converted to Judaism. Kirschner identifies herself as a spiritual Jew. Her parents were psychologists. When Kirschner was a child, the family moved to rural Pennsylvania and then to the suburbs of Philadelphia. She attended school at the Germantown Academy, a private high school, where she was a member of the Theatre Club and the Black Student Union. She moved to New York City at the age of 17 and went to NYU, where she got her BFA in drama. She is a vegan, active in the animal rights movement and a member of Mensa.
