FILM DESCRIPTION:
A young man with a death wish and a 79-year-old high on life find love in Hal Ashby's cult black comedy. Deadpan rich boy Harold (Bud Cort) keeps staging elaborate suicide tableaux to get the attention of his mother (Vivian Pickles), but she keeps planning his brilliant future for him instead. Obsessed with the trappings of death, Harold freaks out his blind dates, modifies his new sports car to look like a mini-hearse, and attends funerals, where he meets the spirited Maude (Ruth Gordon). An eccentric to the core, Maude lives exactly as she pleases, with avid collecting and nude modeling among her many pursuits. To the disgust of Harold's relatives and the befuddlement of Harold's shrink, Harold falls in love with her. As lilting Cat Stevens tunes play on the soundtrack, Maude teaches Harold a valuable lesson about making the most of his time on earth.

Ellen Geer
Ellen Ware Geer (born August 29, 1941) is an American actress, professor, screenwriter, film director, and theatre director.
Personal life
Geer was born in New York City, New York, the daughter of actors Herta Ware and Will Geer, who played grandfather Zebulon "Zeb" Walton on The Waltons. She is married to children's musician Peter Alsop, and was previously married to actor Ed Flanders. Her daughters are Megan and Willow; her son is Ian Flanders.
Career
Geer began her film career appearing as a nun in the 1968 Richard Lester drama Petulia. Already, in 1963, she had joined the Minnesota Theatre Company for the opening seasons of the original Tyrone Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, where, among other roles, she played the lead in Guthrie's production of Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan. She followed this with an appearance in 1969's The Reivers with her father, Will Geer. In 1971, Geer played the deceased wife of the lead character in Kotch, appearing throughout the movie in flashbacks. That same year, she became a regular on The Jimmy Stewart Show (which aired until the following year) and had a supporting role in the acclaimed comedy Harold and Maude. In 1974, she starred in two films which she also wrote: Silence and Memory of Us. Both featured her father.

The Tonight Show
The Tonight Show is an American late-night talk show broadcast from the Rockefeller Center in New York City and airing on NBC since 1954. It is the world's longest-running talk show, and the longest running, regularly scheduled entertainment program in the United States. It is the third-longest-running show on NBC, after only the news-and-talk shows Today and Meet the Press.
Over the course of more than 60 years, The Tonight Show has undergone only minor title changes. It aired under the name Tonight for several of its early years, eventually settling on The Tonight Show after the seating of long-time host Johnny Carson in 1962. In later decades, network programmers, advertisers, and the show's announcers would refer to the show by including the name of the host; for example, it is currently announced as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In 1957, the show briefly tried a more news-style format. It has otherwise remained a talk show throughout its run.
The Tonight Show began broadcasting in 1954. It has had six official hosts, beginning with Steve Allen (1954–57), followed by Jack Paar (1957–62), Johnny Carson (1962–92), Jay Leno (1992–2009, 2010–14), Conan O'Brien (2009–10), and Jimmy Fallon (2014–present). It has had several recurring guest hosts, a practice especially common during the Paar and Carson eras.

Jimmy Fallon
James Thomas "Jimmy" Fallon (born September 19, 1974) is an American comedian, television host, actor, singer, writer, and producer. He is known for his work in television as a cast member on Saturday Night Live and as the host of late-night talk show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and raised in Saugerties, New York. He grew up with an interest in comedy and music, moving to Los Angeles at 21 to pursue stand-up opportunities.
He was commissioned to join NBC's Saturday Night Live as a cast member in 1998, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Fallon remained on SNL for six years between 1998 and 2004, co-hosting the program's Weekend Update segment and becoming a celebrity in the process. He left the program for the film industry, starring in films such as Taxi (2004) and Fever Pitch (2005). Following his film career, Fallon returned to television as the host of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC in 2009, where he became well known for his emphasis on music and games. He transitioned from that program to become the sixth host of the long-running The Tonight Show in 2014.

Richard Gere
Richard Tiffany Gere (/ˈɡɪər/ GEER; born August 31, 1949) is an American actor and activist. He began acting in the 1970s, playing a supporting role in Looking for Mr. Goodbar and a starring role in Days of Heaven. He came to prominence in 1980 for his role in the film American Gigolo, which established him as a leading man and a sex symbol. He went on to star in several hit films, including An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman, Primal Fear, Runaway Bride, Arbitrage and Chicago, for which he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and a Screen Actors Guild Award for part of the Best Cast.
Early life and education
Gere was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His mother, Doris Ann (née Tiffany, born 1924), was a housewife. His father, Homer George Gere (born 1922), was an insurance agent for the Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, and had originally intended to become a minister. Gere is their eldest son and second child. His paternal great-grandfather had changed the spelling of the surname from "Geer". Both of his parents were Mayflower descendants; Gere's ancestors include Pilgrims Francis Eaton, John Billington, George Soule, Richard Warren, Degory Priest, Francis Cooke and William Brewster.

Harold and Maude
Harold and Maude is a 1971 American romantic dark comedy directed by Hal Ashby and released by Paramount Pictures. It incorporates elements of dark humor and existentialist drama, with a plot that revolves around the exploits of a young man named Harold (played by Bud Cort) intrigued with death. Harold drifts away from the life that his detached mother (Vivian Pickles) prescribes for him, and slowly develops quite a strong and close friendship and eventually a romantic relationship with a 79-year-old woman named Maude (Ruth Gordon) who teaches Harold about living life to its fullest and that life is the most precious gift of all.
The film was based on a screenplay written by Colin Higgins and published as a novel in 1971. Filming locations in the San Francisco Bay Area included both Holy Cross Cemetery and Golden Gate National Cemetery, and the ruins of the Sutro Baths.
Critically and commercially unsuccessful when originally released, the film developed a cult following and in 1983 began making a profit. The film is ranked number 45 on the American Film Institute's list of 100 Funniest Movies of all Time and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 1997, for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant".The Criterion Collection special edition Blu-ray and DVD were released June 12, 2012.

Two of the five poems on which this piece is based are by Ezra Pound; the other three are by poets e.e. cummings, Everett Frost and Barbara Kraft, profoundly concerned with and influenced by Pound's works and aesthetics. The poems were chosen particularly for their imagery and musically evocative substance.
Des Imagistes was originally titled, during the writing stage, Hexagrammoid, because the number 6 played such as integral role in the concept of the piece: six players positioned in the shape of a hexagram, many families of six instruments; pitched instruments grouped into complimentary hexachords; and many physical and acoustical considerations derived from aspects of the hexagram, e.g., the second poem "Sestina: Altaforte" being essentially set as a double trio between players I- III-V and II-IV-VI.
Eventually the title became Des Imagistes, taken from the anthology of that name put together by Pound. The exploitation of the hexagram was clearly subservient to the larger desire to put into sound what the poets had put into words: to capture the colors and auras of cummings' "stinging gold"; the clangorous mentality of Pound's medieval warrior in "Sestina: Altaforte"; the suspension of materiality in Barbara Kraft's "Strung on Some Unseen Web"; the gentle loss in the work of Pound scholar Everett Frost in his "11/2/72: E.P." (the date of Pound's death).
Des Imagistes represents the fruition of a long- standing desire to create a large work in which, by the use of cross-cueing and similar interactive devices, the percussion ensemble would function without a conductor.
Des Imagistes was commissioned by the Percussive Arts Society for performance at its national festival, March 26-27, 1974.

The behavior or modern presidents is shaped both by individual choices of presidents themselves and predictable challenges and opportunities encountered by all presidents. John G. Geer is Distinguished Professor of Political Science. Geer earned his doctorate in 1986 from Princeton University, and his bachelor of arts from Franklin and Marshall College with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1980. Geer has published 5 books and over 25 articles on presidential politics and elections, and recently served as editor of The Journal of Politics. His most recent book is In Defense of Negativity: Attacks Ads in Presidential Campaigns published by the University of Chicago Press, which won the Goldsmith Book prize from Harvard University in 2008. He has provided extensive commentary in the news media on politics, including live nationwide interviews for FOX, CNN, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, ABC and NPR. Geer has also written op-ed pieces for Politico, The Washington Post, LA Times, USA Today, and Chicago Tribune. His lecturing has earned him a number of awards at Vanderbilt, including the Squirrel Award, the 2004 Birkby Prize, the 2005 Jeffrey Nordhaus Award and the 2009 Ellen Greg Ingalls Award for teaching excellence.
David Lewis, professor of political science and law studies the presidency, executive branch politics and public administration. He is the author of Presidents and the Politics of Agency Design (Stanford University Press, 2003) and numerous articles on American politics, public administration and management. His most recent book, The Politics of Presidential Appointments: Political Control and Bureaucratic Performance (Princeton University Press, 2008), analyzes the causes and consequences of presidential politicization of the executive branch. The book received the Herbert A. Simon Best Book Award from the American Political Science Associations Public Administration Section and the Richard E. Neustadt Best Book Award from the American Political Science Associations Presidency Research Section. His current projects explore the political views of government agencies and their employees, the politics of presidential appointments and various aspects of public sector management performance. Before joining Vanderbilts Department of Political Science in fall 2008, he was assistant professor of politics and public affairs at Princeton University, where he was affiliated with the Center for the Study of Democratic Politics, from 2002 to 2008. He began his academic career at the College of William and Mary, where he was an assistant professor in the Department of Government from 2000 to 2002.

The behavior or modern presidents is shaped both by individual choices of presidents themselves and predictable challenges and opportunities encountered by all presidents. How does President Obama stack up against other modern presidents at this point in his tenure? What can we expect moving forward based upon the actions of past presidents and the choices Obama has made this far?
John G. Geer is Distinguished Professor of Political Science. Geer earned his doctorate in 1986 from Princeton University, and his bachelor of arts from Franklin and Marshall College with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1980. Geer has published 5 books and over 25 articles on presidential politics and elections, and recently served as editor of The Journal of Politics. His most recent book is In Defense of Negativity: Attacks Ads in Presidential Campaigns published by the University of Chicago Press, which won the Goldsmith Book prize from Harvard University in 2008. He has provided extensive commentary in the news media on politics, including live nationwide interviews for FOX, CNN, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, ABC and NPR. Geer has also written op-ed pieces for Politico, The Washington Post, LA Times, USA Today, and Chicago Tribune. His lecturing has earned him a number of awards at Vanderbilt, including the Squirrel Award, the 2004 Birkby Prize, the 2005 Jeffrey Nordhaus Award and the 2009 Ellen Greg Ingalls Award for teaching excellence.
David Lewis, professor of political science and law studies the presidency, executive branch politics and public administration. He is the author of Presidents and the Politics of Agency Design (Stanford University Press, 2003) and numerous articles on American politics, public administration and management. His most recent book, The Politics of Presidential Appointments: Political Control and Bureaucratic Performance (Princeton University Press, 2008), analyzes the causes and consequences of presidential politicization of the executive branch. The book received the Herbert A. Simon Best Book Award from the American Political Science Associations Public Administration Section and the Richard E. Neustadt Best Book Award from the American Political Science Associations Presidency Research Section. His current projects explore the political views of government agencies and their employees, the politics of presidential appointments and various aspects of public sector management performance. Before joining Vanderbilts Department of Political Science in fall 2008, he was assistant professor of politics and public affairs at Princeton University, where he was affiliated with the Center for the Study of Democratic Politics, from 2002 to 2008. He began his academic career at the College of William and Mary, where he was an assistant professor in the Department of Government from 2000 to 2002.

Ellen Geer’s adaptation brings new eyes to Harriet Beecher Stowe’s story. Before #Black Lives Matter was part of our lexicon, Stowe’s great novel demanded freedom and equality for all. It changed forever how Americans viewed slavery, galvanizing the abolition movement and contributing to the outbreak of the Civil War.
Our show is honored to have Gerald C. Rivers is a talented actor, voiceover artist, teacher, inspirational speaker and a noted scholar on the words and works of Dr. King. Ernestine Phillips is an accomplished stage and television actor with appearances on Desperate Housewives, Glee, Bones, ER, Southland and The Shield. Two of the five poems on which this piece is based are by Ezra Pound; the other three are by poets e.e. cummings, Everett Frost and Barbara Kraft, profoundly concerned with and influenced by Pound's works and aesthetics. The poems were chosen particularly for their imagery and musically evocative substance.
Des Imagistes was originally titled, during the writing stage, Hexagrammoid, because the number 6 played such as integral role in the concept of the piece: six players positioned in the shape of a hexagram, many families of six instruments; pitched instruments grouped into complimentary hexachords; and many physical and acoustical considerations derived from aspects of the hexagram, e.g., the second poem "Sestina: Altaforte" being essentially set as a double trio between players I- III-V and II-IV-VI.
Eventually the title became Des Imagistes, taken from the anthology of that name put together by Pound. The exploitation of the hexagram was clearly subservient to the larger desire to put into sound what the poets had put into words: to capture the colors and auras of cummings' "stinging gold"; the clangorous mentality of Pound's medieval warrior in "Sestina: Altaforte"; the suspension of materiality in Barbara Kraft's "Strung on Some Unseen Web"; the gentle loss in the work of Pound scholar Everett Frost in his "11/2/72: E.P." (the date of Pound's death).
Des Imagistes represents the fruition of a long- standing desire to create a large work in which, by the use of cross-cueing and similar interactive devices, the percussion ensemble would function without a conductor.
Des Imagistes was commissioned by the Percussive Arts Society for performance at its national festival, March 26-27, 1974.

John G. Geer is Distinguished Professor of Political Science. Geer earned his doctorate in 1986 from Princeton University, and his bachelor of arts from Franklin and Marshall College with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1980. Geer has published 5 books and over 25 articles on presidential politics and elections, and recently served as editor of The Journal of Politics. His most recent book is In Defense of Negativity: Attacks Ads in Presidential Campaigns published by the University of Chicago Press, which won the Goldsmith Book prize from Harvard University in 2008. He has provided extensive commentary in the news media on politics, including live nationwide interviews for FOX, CNN, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, ABC and NPR. Geer has also written op-ed pieces for Politico, The Washington Post, LA Times, USA Today, and Chicago Tribune. His lecturing has earned him a number of awards at Vanderbilt, including the Squirrel Award, the 2004 Birkby Prize, the 2005 Jeffrey Nordhaus Award and the 2009 Ellen Greg Ingalls Award for teaching excellence.
David Lewis, professor of political science and law studies the presidency, executive branch politics and public administration. He is the author of Presidents and the Politics of Agency Design (Stanford University Press, 2003) and numerous articles on American politics, public administration and management. His most recent book, The Politics of Presidential Appointments: Political Control and Bureaucratic Performance (Princeton University Press, 2008), analyzes the causes and consequences of presidential politicization of the executive branch. The book received the Herbert A. Simon Best Book Award from the American Political Science Associations Public Administration Section and the Richard E. Neustadt Best Book Award from the American Political Science Associations Presidency Research Section. His current projects explore the political views of government agencies and their employees, the politics of presidential appointments and various aspects of public sector management performance. Before joining Vanderbilts Department of Political Science in fall 2008, he was assistant professor of politics and public affairs at Princeton University, where he was affiliated with the Center for the Study of Democratic Politics, from 2002 to 2008. He began his academic career at the College of William and Mary, where he was an assistant professor in the Department of Government from 2000 to 2002.

Geer earned his doctorate in 1986 from Princeton University, and his bachelor of arts from Franklin and Marshall College with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1980. Geer has published 5 books and over 25 articles on presidential politics and elections, and recently served as editor of The Journal of Politics. His most recent book is In Defense of Negativity: Attacks Ads in Presidential Campaigns published by the University of Chicago Press, which won the Goldsmith Book prize from Harvard University in 2008. He has provided extensive commentary in the news media on politics, including live nationwide interviews for FOX, CNN, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, ABC and NPR. Geer has also written op-ed pieces for Politico, The Washington Post, LA Times, USA Today, and Chicago Tribune. His lecturing has earned him a number of awards at Vanderbilt, including the Squirrel Award, the 2004 Birkby Prize, the 2005 Jeffrey Nordhaus Award and the 2009 Ellen Greg Ingalls Award for teaching excellence.
David Lewis, professor of political science and law studies the presidency, executive branch politics and public administration. He is the author of Presidents and the Politics of Agency Design (Stanford University Press, 2003) and numerous articles on American politics, public administration and management. His most recent book, The Politics of Presidential Appointments: Political Control and Bureaucratic Performance (Princeton University Press, 2008), analyzes the causes and consequences of presidential politicization of the executive branch. The book received the Herbert A. Simon Best Book Award from the American Political Science Associations Public Administration Section and the Richard E. Neustadt Best Book Award from the American Political Science Associations Presidency Research Section. His current projects explore the political views of government agencies and their employees, the politics of presidential appointments and various aspects of public sector management performance. Before joining Vanderbilts Department of Political Science in fall 2008, he was assistant professor of politics and public affairs at Princeton University, where he was affiliated with the Center for the Study of Democratic Politics, from 2002 to 2008. He began his academic career at the College of William and Mary, where he was an assistant professor in the Department of Government from 2000 to 2002.
