Paris (UK: /ˈpærɪs/ PARR-iss; US: i/ˈpɛərɪs/ PAIR-iss; French: [paʁi]) is the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the région parisienne, "Paris Region". The City of Paris has an area of 105 km² (41 mi²) and a population of 2,241,346 (2014 estimate) within its administrative borders essentially unchanged since 1860.
Since the 19th century, the built-up area of Paris has grown far beyond its administrative borders; together with its suburbs, the whole agglomeration has a population of 10,550,350 (Jan. 2012 census).Paris' metropolitan area spans most of the Paris region and has a population of 12,341,418 (Jan. 2012 census), or one-fifth of the population of France. The administrative region covers 12,012 km² (4,638 mi²), with approximately 12 million inhabitants as of 2014, and has its own regional council and president.
Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic people called the Parisii, who gave the city its name. By the 12th century, Paris was the largest city in the western world, a prosperous trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe. In the 18th century, it was the centre stage for the French Revolution, and became an important centre of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts, a position it still retains today.
The American Library in New Delhi is a library under the supervision of the American Embassy, situated in the commercial hub of New Delhi inside the American Center (the office of US government officials in India). Opened in 1951, the Library was established to promote understanding between the people of North India and the United States. The library has books on topics related to American society, American politics, American culture, and the American constitution which it serves to general public, students, teachers, and researchers.
The library started as a reading room on 54 Queensway (now Janpath) under the banner of the "United States Library" with a collection of 3,000 books, 2,000 pamphlets, and 80 periodical subscriptions, and a seating capacity of 24. In 1951, when the book collection reached 6,000, a lending system was introduced and free membership was extended. Two years later, loan services by mail were offered to those living outside the capital. The library moved to 24 Curzon Road (now Kasturba Gandhi Marg) in 1952 with a collection of 10,000 books and 300 periodical subscriptions. The library occupied temporary quarters at Bahawalpur House on 1, Sikandra Road from 1969 until February 1974. The library celebrated its 25 years of service to the Indian public in November 1971. The silver Jubilee celebrations were presided over by the Vice President of India, the late Dr.Gopal Swarup Pathak.
The American Library in Paris is the largest English-language lending library on the European continent. It operates as a non-profit cultural association in France incorporated under the laws of Delaware. Library members have access to more than 120,000 books, 500 periodicals (some of which date back to the mid-19th century), movies on DVD, and other audio-visual materials, plus reference and research resources in paper and electronic form. The library currently serves nearly 2,500 members from more than 60 countries.
The library was established in 1920 under the auspices of the American Library Association with a core collection of books and periodicals donated by American libraries to United States armed forces personnel serving their allies in World War I.
Towards the end of World War I, when the United States entered the conflict, hundreds of American libraries launched the Library War Service, a massive project to send books to the troops fighting in Europe. By the Armistice, nearly a million and a half books had been sent across the Atlantic to soldiers. Originally known as the American Library Association’s Service for the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) during World War I, the American Library in Paris was formally incorporated under the laws of the state of Delaware in 1920 with a core collection of those wartime books. Director Dorothy Reeder, a quarter century later, described the library as a "war baby, born out of that vast number of books sent to the AEF by the American Library Association in the last war. When hostilities ceased, it embarked on a new mission, and has served as a memorial to the American soldiers for whom it has been established."
The American can refer to the following:
A library is a collection of sources of information and similar resources, made accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing. It provides physical or digital access to material, and may be a physical building or room, or a virtual space, or both. A library's collection can include books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, films, maps, prints, documents, microform, CDs, cassettes, videotapes, DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, e-books, audiobooks, databases, and other formats. Libraries range in size from a few shelves of books to several million items. In Latin and Greek, the idea of bookcase is represented by Bibliotheca and Bibliothēkē (Greek: βιβλιοθήκη): derivatives of these mean library in many modern languages, e.g. French bibliothèque.
The first libraries consisted of archives of the earliest form of writing—the clay tablets in cuneiform script discovered in Sumer, some dating back to 2600 BC. Private or personal libraries made up of written books appeared in classical Greece in the 5th century BC. In the 6th century, at the very close of the Classical period, the great libraries of the Mediterranean world remained those of Constantinople and Alexandria.

National Library of France / François-Mitterrand Library - Architect: Dominique Perrault - 1989-1995 As an edition to the developing urban project in eastern Paris, the French National Library was built in hopes to be the most modern library in the world. The competition of 1989 that included projects from 244 internationally renowned architects was won by Dominique Perrault, who was only 36 years old. This project would be the defining design of Perrault‘s career. Specifically designed for it’s location in the Seine Rive Gauche district, the basic concept is composed of four tall towers that define the boundaries of an esplanade, which is hollowed out of the ground to create a vast forest-garden. The four beacon-like markers with an area measuring up to 350,000 m2 were constructed on a st...

Instead of your typical runway, the models walked down a long table complete with books and reading lights for ambiance. The venue perfectly captured the school-like theme of the collection, which included lots of bright colors and varsity lettering. The collection hopes to embody the classic American social circles and cliques in high school, including the nerds, jocks, skaters, preppies, goth kids and bad girls. Rihanna, the brand's creative director, said "When I was in school, it was always my dream to be able to dress up in whatever I wanted.
