Scouting in Ohio

Scouting in Ohio has a long history, from the 1908 to the present day, serving thousands of youth in programs that suit the environment in which they live.

Recent history (1950–1990)

In 1952 and again in 1975 the National Order of the Arrow Conference was held at Miami University.

Boy Scouts of America in Ohio today

In the 1990s, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) went through a restructuring in an attempt to reduce manpower, and in several states small historic Councils were merged into a larger supercouncil. The Simon Kenton Council is an example of such a supercouncil.

There are sixteen Boy Scouts of America local councils in Ohio.

Allohak Council

Allohak Council (#818) was founded in 1991. It is composed of six districts and serves West Virginia and Ohio. The council headquarters is in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Black Swamp Area Council

Black Swamp Area Council was created in 1992. It is composed of six districts and covers thirteen counties in Ohio. The council headquarters is in Findlay, Ohio with an additional service center in Lima, Ohio.

Girl Guides

Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are movements similar to Scouting originally, and still largely, for girls and women only. It evolved in 1909 from girls wishing to take part in the boy-only Scout movement. In different places around the world, the movement developed in diverse ways. In some places, girls attempted to join Scouting organisations and it was decided that single-gender organisations were a better solution. In other places, girls' groups were started, some of them later to open up to boys or merge with boys' organisations. In other instances, mixed groups were formed, sometimes to later split. In the same way, the name Girl Guide or Girl Scout has been used by groups at different times and in different places, with some groups changing from one to another.

In 1909 Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, when faced with an increasing number of girls wishing to take part in Scouting decided that girls should have their own separate movement, and the Girl Guides were founded in the UK in 1910. Many, though by no means all, Girl Guide and Girl Scout groups across the globe trace their roots to this point. Agnes Baden-Powell, the Baron's sister, was in charge of Girl Guiding in UK in its early years. Other influential people were Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Olga Drahonowska-Małkowska in Poland and Antoinette Butte in France.

Girl Scout (Hangul: 걸스카우트; RR: Geolseukauteu) is a 2008 South Korean action comedy film directed by Kim Sang-man.

Plot

Set in Bongcheon-3 dong, a deprived area in Seoul, four women are struggling financially. They are I-man (Na Moon-hee), a woman in her 60s working at a supermarket to look after her unemployed son; Bong-soon (Lee Kyung-sil), a widow who lives with an ill child; Mi-kyung (Kim Sun-a), a divorcee; and Eun-ji (Go Joon-hee), a caddie. They are determined to raise the money to open up a store in their neighborhood, and it is their sole hope and dream. But things get much worse when Hye-ran (Im Ji-eun), the head of their credit union, runs off with their life savings. Desperate, they create a team called Bong Chon Girl Scouts Troop #3 to recover the stolen money, and chaos ensues.

Ohio is a double studio album, their seventh overall, by Over the Rhine, released in 2003. The album was released as both a double CD and limited edition double vinyl LP set.

"Ohio (Come Back to Texas)" is a song by American band Bowling for Soup, released as a single from their album A Hangover You Don't Deserve.

The song was used as a Wake-Up Call on Day 10 of the Space Shuttle Discovery's final mission, STS-133, at the request of the crew, on March 5 2011.

Content

The singer's girlfriend leaves him after meeting another man at the bank and moves with him to Cleveland. The singer implores her to come back home to him and the things she left behind in Texas.
