Firefighters have put out a blaze that may have been deliberately lit in a suburban park surrounded on all sides by tightly packed houses.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the fire at Bengello Park in Burns Beach in Perth's northern suburbs burnt a section of scrub on Tuesday afternoon.
Photographs from local residents show bright orange flames billowing up from the racetrack-shaped park, with homes close by blanketed by thick white smoke.
DFES said the fire "appears to have been deliberately lit", and some locals said online that they'd seen children running from the park around the time the blaze began.
"Hope there is cameras and they are caught," one local said, while another wrote "I wondered why I could smell smoke?! Hope no major damage has been done."
A crew from the Joondalup fire station was called to the park at 1.31pm, and quickly extinguished the flames.
