We are looking for talented people to join us in the following roles as we work on a number of challenging new initiatives in both print and digital media.

P.R. Coordinator

Overview:

The New Yorker is seeking a P.R. coordinator to help the communications team promote the magazine, Web site, and radio show, “The New Yorker Radio Hour,” across broadcast, print, and digital outlets. This is a project-based, freelance position. Ideally, the coordinator would work from The New Yorker’s office in lower Manhattan; however, we will consider remote applicants.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Read embargoed articles from the forthcoming New Yorker and write enticing copy for the weekly press release.

• Assist with coordination of the press strategy and press release for each issue, as well as promotion of online content and “The New Yorker Radio Hour.”

• Help conceptualize, build, and maintain media lists used to pitch magazine and Web stories and radio-show segments.

• Help coordinate promotion of and do outreach for magazine and Web stories and radio-show segments.

• Track all media generated for the magazine, Web site, “Radio Hour,” and events, as well as for New Yorker writers and editors.

Candidates must have:

• College degree with one to two years of relevant experience.

• Strong writing, communication, and reading-comprehension skills.

• Meticulous attention to detail.

• The ability to work quickly and with precision on breaking-news stories.

• The ability to manage multiple projects at once.

• Knowledge of the media landscape and current events.

• A knowledge of and interest in the history, style, and voice of The New Yorker.

• Familiarity with Office products (e.g. Word, Excel) and Google Suite (e.g. Docs, Sheets), as well as social-media networks (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat).
