German and Iraqi doctors operated on Uday Sunday.
Officials said the surgery was to remove a bullet that lodged near the patient's spine, but Uday himself told APTV the surgery was to repair his shattered left leg.
Uday Hussein is still in hospital following last December's assassination attempt.
On Tuesday, he spoke to APTV two days after German and Iraqi doctors operated on him.
SOUNDBITE: (Arabic)
"The operation was carried out last Sunday by a group of foreign surgeons from friendly countries. Some Iraqi doctors also took part - with the exception of the French. The operation was successful and I am recovering very well, and God willing, I will be able to walk on my feet again within several days, or several weeks to be precise."
SUPER CAPTION: Uday Hussein
Uday is the president of the Iraqi soccer federation as well as being chairman of the Iraqi Olympic Committee.
He also runs part of Iraqi television and is editor in chief of the daily The Babylon.
He told A-P-T-V that he planned to resume his work within two to three months.
SOUNDBITE: (Arabic)
Q: When will you resume your sporting activities?
A: "If you mean my recovering my physical ability to carry out sporting events, this God willing will take place within six months. And as for carrying out my usual activities, I should be able to do so within two to three months.
SUPER CAPTION: Uday Hussein
Here his father Saddam Hussein is seen visiting Uday after he was shot several times last December as he waited in a car in an exclusive Baghdad suburb.
No one has been charged with the assassination attempt, but Iraqis believe it might have resulted from a family feud.
Before the attack, Uday was regarded as his father's heir apparent.
Uday's doctor said his patient would not need any more surgery.
SOUNDBITE: (English)

Uday Hussein was shot when driving in Baghdad in December 1996.
On Wednesday, he walked with the aid of a stick into the Saddam Hussein sports centre in Baghdad.
Obviously still recovering from the assassination attempt, he looked unsteady on his feet as he arrived to watch displays of traditional dancing and singing.
The eldest son of the Iraqi leader was surrounded by about 10 bodyguards carrying automatic weapons.
Uday is the head of Iraq's National Olympic Committee.
The celebrations were organised by his Committee, Students and the Journalists Union.
Students wearing coloured clothes danced and sang for Uday.

The league championship was played by the Air-Force and Al Zaura police clubs and the match ended in a draw.
A football match between Air-Force and Al Zaura police clubs in Baghdad on Friday really pulled out the crowds.
The match got off to an impressive start with one of teams scoring an impressive goal in the first half.
Uday Hussein, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's eldest son, arrived on the terraces to watch the second half the match.
Uday is chairman of the Iraqi National Olympics Committee.
At the end of the match, he handed out the medals embossed with the image of his father to the winning team.
But Uday Hussein, the owner of Baghdad's influential "Babel" newspaper, has had a chequered past.
A reputed drug dealer, he was shot and wounded in the 1996 assassination attempt on his father which left him maimed and walking with a stick.
Uday promised in the past to take up arms in the stand-off between Iraq and the U-S during the Gulf War and said he had to keep in good shape as it angered Iraq's enemies.

Iraq's Youth TV released new pictures of Saddam Hussein's eldest son, Uday, in hospital on Wednesday, seven weeks after he was gunned down by unknown assailants in Baghdad.
The video showed Uday being visited by various Iraqi ministers but did not indicate when the meetings took place.
There are claims that Uday may be paralysed and could lose a leg to gangrene.
The pictures were apparently shown as part of a campaign to discredit reports of an internal power struggle in the Hussein family.
Filmed by Iraqi television, these pictures of Uday Hussein were shown on Youth TV, a station run by Uday himself.
The broadcast gave no indication when the pictures were shot.
Uday was seen lying in his bed in Baghdad's Ibn Sina Hospital and talking to various Iraqi ministers.
The Iraqi leader's eldest son appeared quite animated, moving his right hand and embracing his visitors.
He did not however move his left arm and has not been filmed walking since the assassination attempt on December 12th last year.
The pictures were apparently taken on at least two different days as Uday is seen with a beard in the first and third sequence, but not in the middle shot.
A senior U-S military official and Iraqi opposition sources claim Uday may have been left paralysed and could lose a leg to gangrene.
Youth TV showed the footage in an apparent effort to discredit reports that Uday's injuries are serious and to counter rumours of a power struggle within the Hussein family.
On Tuesday U-S officials said Saddam had put his wife under house arrest after she opposed his plan to forgive the killers of his two sons-in-law.
Iraq on Thursday dismissed the reports, saying they were nothing more than a campaign of lies to damage the country's reputation.

Despite reports that President Saddam Hussein has his wife under house arrest, Iraqi television showed him and Sajida Talfah visiting their oldest son Uday.
Uday, who is feared as much as his father, is still in hospital after an assassination attempt on December the 12th
The theatrical appearance included also members of Federation of Iraqi women.
Apparently trying to counter foreign reports that Saddam Hussein has his wife under house arrest, Iraqi television on Tuesday showed the presidential couple with their oldest son Uday.
Also attending where some members of the Federation of Iraqi women which is presided by his wife, Sajida Talfah.
The footage of the smiling family was taken at Ibn Sina hospital, where the Iraqi leader's eldest son, Uday, is still recovering after an assassination attempt last December.
The Iraq state television report did not say when the meeting took place.
The broadcast came a week after a senior U-S military official said Saddam had placed his wife, Sajida Talfah, under house arrest.
The official, who requested anonymity, did not offer an explanation, but Iraqi dissidents said it was because she opposed Saddam's plan to forgive the killers of his two sons-in- law.
The television pictures showed Saddam, his wife and a weak Uday smiling and shaking hands with representatives of the women's group.
Sajida Talfah, who wore a scarf over her head, appeared relaxed as she smiled and whispered to Saddam.
Uday, sitting in a wheelchair, was dressed in the traditional long Arab robe and headdress.
His father had also opted for the traditional robe and headdress rather than his famous green military outfit.
There was no visible movement in the left arm of the wounded son.
There are reports that Uday, in his early thirties, could be paralyzed and might lose a leg to gangrene after the December 12 grenade and machine-gun attack as he drove through the streets of Baghdad.
He still has two bullets lodged in his spinal cord.
Saddam Hussein has made an appeal to French government to allow his son to get operated in France which was turned down.
Instead, France send a team of doctors to Baghdad but has refused to allow them to operate Uday.
France excused its position by mentioning then brutal sanctions used by the Iraqi leader on those who offend him.
Saddam's sons-in-law, Lt. Gen. Hussein Kamel al-Majid and his brother, Saddam, were slain after returning to Iraq last February from Jordan, where they had defected.
At the time, Saddam blessed the killings and called the men traitors.
But Iraqi dissidents say Saddam wants relatives of his sons-in-law to forgive the killers in order to reunite his feuding clan.
But his wife insisted that the killers be punished before any family reconciliation, according to the dissidents.

1. Wide shot people listening to Saddam Hussein's son, Uday Hussein
++Soundbite overlaid with various pictures of people listening++
2. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Uday Hussein, Saddam Hussein's son:
"I read Blair's dossier (a dossier published on Tuesday September 24 by the British government on Iraqi weapons) , and the official translations included the name of Uday and Qusay (Saddam's other son). There is no weight in his speech, and whatever you do to stop him, naive words will certainly come out of his mouth. Even if you put a sticker on his mouth to keep him silent, he will definitely say naive things. If you squeeze his head in a vise he will be naive. Is he trying to frighten Uday? If Uday's father shakes the rope of the tent the whole tent will collapse. If they want to deal with us in a proper way, without their usual arrogance and their cowboy style, then we are ready to deal with them. If they want to increase the bid, we will increase more. If they raise their voices, we will increase our action. If they are intending to come here, let them come and see. We hope this evil will be avoided. Now it's time that I thank them - it is the first time they say something good when they said that they will target Saddam, his family and the circle surrounding him. We hope so because then they'll save our people and we hope they will not hit electricity, water, children, schools, men and women. Thus the battle will be between us and them."
STORYLINE:
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's eldest son Uday accused the United States of arrogance and acting like "cowboys" during a speech on Iraqi TV on Thursday.
Uday also said there was "no weight" to British Prime Minister Tony Blair recent speech on Iraq's chemical and biological weapon capability.
In a dossier published earlier this week, Blair said Saddam's stockpile of biological and chemical weapons is growing and that Iraq has taken steps to develop nuclear weapons.
Uday made his comments during a meeting with Iraqi student union leaders in Baghdad, and it was broadcast on al-Shabab television - a youth channel he owns.

Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's son Uday made a rare public appearance in Baghdad on Friday (22/05), attending a football match at the Al-Sha'ab stadium. Uday, who is chairman of the Iraqi National Olympics Committee, was believed to have attended the match to show that he is still mobile. He has made very few public appearances since an assassination attempt last year in Baghdad when he was severely wounded by unidentified gunmen who riddled his car with bullets. There was speculation that Uday would never walk again. The match he attended was between two police clubs to decide Iraq's league championship. It ended in a draw.

One of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's sons has made a rare television appearance.
Uday -- who was gunned down in an apparent assassination attempt in 1996 -- was shown by Iraqi television touring a Baghdad orphanage.
Following the shooting, he spent several months in hospital and doctors said he was likely to be paralysed.
Since then, he has regained movement in his legs and nows walks without crutches.
No one has been charged with the assassination attempt, but Iraqis believe it might have resulted from a family feud.
Before the attack, Uday was regarded as heir apparent and feared almost as much as his father.
In October 1998, an Iraqi defector to the U-K, implicated Uday in the 1995 killings of Saddam Hussein's two sons in law, Hussein Kamel and Saddam Kamel.

Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's eldest son Uday, appeared on state television on Tuesday for the first time after he was shot and wounded last Thursday.
He appeared well on the way to full recovery and spoke with relative ease with a Qatari envoy and a reporter from the official Iraqi news agency.
Uday Hussein, eldest son of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein who survived an assassination attempt last week, appeared on Iraqi television on Tuesday.
He told a reporter from Al-Shabab Television -- which he owns -- that he was recovering from his wounds.
SOUNDBITE: (Arabic)
Q: How do you feel?
"Uday: I feel fine. I'm recovering. I feel like any leader of a team would feel if he had been betrayed. I feel that what has happened is not man's work. (meaning this was a cowardly act)
God bless the Iraqi people. God save Iraq. God save Saddam."

Later in the day, a Qatari envoy visited him in hospital.
In his first public appearance since last Thursday's attack, he seemed to be speaking with relative ease.
The Iraqi opposition Shiite Moslem group claimed responsibility, along with other Iraqi opposition organisations, for the attack against Uday, a Russian news agency reported Tuesday.
The communiqué from the organisation said Uday's condition was very serious, and he had been relocated to another hospital for surgery with the participation of foreign specialists.
The international Arabic newspaper reported that Uday would be flown to Switzerland for medical treatment, but the foreign ministry said it had not received any visa request.

English/Nat
The Iraqi regime is facing a new crisis after Saddam Hussein's half brother - the country's ambassador to the U-N in Geneva - refused to obey a summons to return home.
Barzan al-Takriti has resigned his post, telling Saddam he won't return to Baghdad under any circumstances.
Members of his family are reported to have been placed under house arrest.
Meanwhile a defector who worked for Saddam's son Uday has revealed the reason for Barzan's defiance - and much more besides.
Stepping briefly out of the shadows, the latest high-level defector from Iraq breaks cover to tell his story.
Abbas al-Janabi spent more than a decade at the side of Saddam's eldest son, Uday, and paints a fearsome picture of his former boss.
Al-Janabi was Uday's personal secretary. He claims he never wanted to work for him - and only agreed to do so after being tortured.
SOUNDBITE:
"I was forced to work with him in 1991 after the uprising. He ordered one of his bodyguards and said 'take Abbas to Radwaniya (prison)'. They took me to Radwaniya. I had three days of torture. They told me I have to work with Uday. They said you can't say no. I have five children."
SUPER CAPTION: Abbas al-Janabi, Iraqi defector
This was Uday Hussein leaving hospital in June last year, after an assassination attempt the previous December. Abbas al-Janabi says the incident has changed Uday's psychological makeup, and he's now even worse than before.
SOUNDBITE:
"He became crueller. His cruelty became more and more and more. His wickedness became more and more and more."
SUPER CAPTION: Abbas al-Janabi, Iraqi defector
The defector has provided the most detailed eyewitness account to date of the killing in 1995 of Saddam Hussein's two sons in law, Hussein Kamel and Saddam Kamel.
They defected to Jordan but were enticed home, only to be murdered.
Uday was there to orchestrate the killings. Abbas al-Janabi was with him and witnessed Hussein Kamel's final moments.
SOUNDBITE:
"He was wounded. The house inside was burned. He went out of the house. He was wounded, lifting - this is what I saw - lifting two machine guns in his hand and insulting the regime. And they shot him. I don't know the number of bullets. And he fell to the ground and they shot him like this (gestures) after he was dead."
SUPER CAPTION: Abbas al-Janabi, Iraqi defector
Al-Janabi tells of a grisly murder which he saw Uday commit at this fairground in 1993.
A man called Mohammed el-Kharawali had angered Uday by criticising him.
Uday forced the victim to drink three bottles of gin, then placed him on a wooden horse on a merry-go-round. When the horse rose up, the victim's head struck a steel spike, killing him.
SOUNDBITE:
"Mohammed went to one of the horses and got on it. But he was very drunk, so he fell to the ground. He fell to the ground inside the merry go round. There's a steel spike on top which came to his head. He him in this area (points to top of head) and he fell down. He fell down dead."
SUPER CAPTION: Abbas al-Janabi, Iraqi defector
The defector has shed light on the news from Geneva that Iraq's ambassador to the U-N there- Saddam's half brother Barzan al-Takriti - has refused to return to Baghdad.
Al-Janabi says it's because of a long-running feud between Barzan and Uday. Uday married Barzan's daughter, but has treated her badly, and won't divorce her.
SOUNDBITE:
"We know that Uday married Barzan's daughter. He neglected her and kept her for three months in Baghdad and then allowed her to travel to her father in Geneva. And from that time - this happened in 1995 - he refused even to divorce her. So this is the reason (why Barzan hates Uday and why he won't return to Baghdad."

There's been tough talk from Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, on the seventh anniversary of the Gulf War.
In a televised speech marking the occasion, the Iraqi leader said he'll end cooperation with U-N weapons inspectors unless sanctions against his country are lifted.
He was highly critical of the U-S but urged the Clinton administration to reconsider its policies toward Iraq and bring about an end to the sanctions.
Air-raid sirens sound over a portrait of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in Baghdad on Saturday.
It's exactly seven years since the start of the Gulf war that saw Iraqi forces pushed out of Kuwait.
This ceremony was to mourn some of Iraq's dead and wounded from that conflict.
Saddam Hussein marked the occasion with a televised address to the nation.
Most of his speech was traditional set-piece rhetoric -- including long denunciations of the U-S and its allies.
But there was one specific threat to the U-N and the world at large.
Iraq's president said he would suspend cooperation with U-N weapons inspectors if U-N sanctions against Iraq are not lifted.
SOUNDBITE: (Arabic)
"If the (U-N) Security Council does not adopt the decision to meet its obligations towards the country of Iraq .. Iraq and its people are determined to adopt a stand parallel to a recommendation by representatives of its people in its National Assembly," SUPER CAPTION: Saddam Hussein, President of Iraq
There was praise for Saddam Hussein -- hardly a controversial topic -- from his Trade Minister.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Iraq had been under the military aggression and sanctions for seven years in order to weaken this country which has proven under the leadership of his excellency President Saddam that he is capable to defend its territory and to develop itself (in terms of) it's sovereignty and its capability."
SUPER CAPTION: Muhammed Mahdi Salah, Iraqi Trade Minister
Iraq's National Assembly is the country's tame parliament which essentially rubber-stamps Saddam Hussein's decisions.
Relations between Iraq and the U-N have been particularly tense in recent days, following Iraq's decision to bar an American-led U-N team from inspecting sites.
Iraq maintains the group included too many Americans and Britons -- the team left on Friday.
On the streets of Baghdad, the fairly predictable demonstrations in support of Iraq's president and against the country's perceived enemies.
These Iraqi and Sudanese students were marched out to vent their anger.
And a move almost as set-piece as Saddam Hussein's televised rhetoric -- U-S, British and Israeli flags went up in flames.

Russian diplomats kept pushing for a diplomatic solution to the Iraq crisis on Sunday as the military tension continued to mount.
Victor Posulvalyuk, Russia's special envoy to Iraq, is in Baghdad trying to broker a compromise between the Iraqi government and the U-N.
U-N-S-C-O-M weapons inspectors are being allowed to view some weapons sites, but not the unlimited access the international community desires.
Meanwhile, Saddam Hussein's son Uday was shown on Iraqi T-V pledging his readiness to take up arms against America.
Russia's special envoy to Iraq, Victor Posulvalyuk, left the Al Rasheed Hotel in Baghdad on Sunday to try and broker a compromise between the Iraqi government and the U-N.
Posulvalyuk is trying to avert a use of force by the U-S and Britain, with both countries continuing to warn that time is running out.
U-N-S-C-O-M weapons inspectors continued their work on Sunday, but with only limited access to sites of Iraq's choosing not the unlimited access the U-N wants.
The inspectors are particularly interested in Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's palaces which have been off limits and a bone of contention between Iraq and the U-N.
Access to the Iraqi leader's presidential palaces is certainly on the table as last minute diplomacy by Posulvalyuk and others takes place.
Meanwhile, on Iraqi T-V Saturday night, Uday Hussein, Saddam's son limped through the halls of Al Rasheed Hotel.
The reputed drug dealer, who was wounded in a 1996 assassination attempt on his father, had strong words for the U-S.
SOUNDBITE: (Arabic)
"Even though I am carrying this cane it will make me a bit slower, I can't run with you but it will never stop me from carrying a gun."

SOUNDBITE: (Arabic)
"I have to be in good shape as it angers our enemies."
SUPER CAPTION: Uday Hussein, Saddam Hussein's son
The streets of Baghdad on Sunday seemed normal.
Iraqis read the state-controlled newspapers which contained the usual anti-Western line.
Tensions are high in the Gulf as a diplomatic deal to stop military action seems unlikely, yet is still being pursued.

Getting There: Iraqi Kurdistan has two international airports, Erbil and Sulaimany. Currently there are direct international flights from Kurdistan to Dubai, Amman, Beirut and Frankfort.
There is the option to reach to Kurdistan by flying to Turkey: - Purchase a ticket to Diyarbakir (the nearest large city to the Turkish / Iraqi Kurdistan border). Once you have crossed the Turkish border into Iraqi Kurdistan (Ibrahim Khalil/Habur), you will be greeted by the Kurdish customs officials who will issue you a visa and further information on your destination.
Getting Around Iraqi Kurdistan: Taxi, Bus, and Private Car Hire. If you are mainly interested in staying in a city, taxi is reliable and good value for money. The bomb blasts in Karbala and Baghdad during the Shia Muslim commemoration of Ashura did more than rock the fragile stability of Iraq - they were a signal to the new power base in the country, the Shias, that their mosques, their shrines and their festivals will be targeted by extremists.
For the first time in three decades, Iraqi Shias were able to mark Ashura - the commemoration of the the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, grandson of the Prophet Mohammed - openly in Karbala.
Cameras followed Shia pilgrims from the UK, USA and Iraq as they wrestled with the decision to travel to Karbala and mark the first free Ashura in three decades.
The 90-minute film records pilgrims' decisions, Ashura itself and the intense emotions of the Shia mourning of Hussain's death. It includes footage of the bombings and their aftermath.

Erbil International Airport (IATA: EBL, ICAO: ORER), is the main airport of Erbil city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Erbil International Airport is centrally located on the Silk Road of the Airways. Following the liberation of Iraq in 2003, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided to transform Erbil's former military base into a modern civil aviation airport to serve as a major gateway to the world. Erbil International Airport (EIA) officially opened on July 7, 2005, and it welcomed its first IATA carrier on 11th December 2006. The KRG has enacted favorable rules to attract foreign investors and to help citizens of the Kurdistan Region in exile return home. Domestic traffic, as well as regional traffic throughout the expansive Middle East, is growing. Kurdistan's great natural resources of oil, natural gas and other minerals are creating a flourishing and rapidly growing business environment. Kurdistan is previously in exile are returning, bringing with them connections to other lands. There is an ever stronger need for efficient air transport, for passengers as well as cargo. The Erbil area has a stable water supply, and is surrounded by scenic and accessible wilderness lands, with greenery, clean streams, waterfalls and caves. This stands in stark contrast to other Middle Eastern destinations, and visitors will fuel an important tourism industry in Kurdistan. These are some of the reasons that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and EIA have constructed and equipped an airport for the future, with capacity for three million passengers, and one of the world's longest runways, designed to accommodate the Airbus A380 and cargo aircraft of that class. The airport is the culmination of the vision and strategy put in place in 2003.

The destabilisation of Iraq in the past decade has contributed to the state of anarchy in the Middle East, the rise of extremism and the mushrooming of terrorism. To achieve stability, Iraq must be supported to achieve meaningful reforms and strong central government. Corruption, quota system and foreign intervention are among the illnesses of the country. What are the prospects of Iraq’s transformation into a sovereign, democratic and stable power? These challenges will be debated at this seminar.
