龍脊梯田，在廣西龍勝各族自治縣龍脊鎮平安村龍脊山，距縣城22公里。距桂林市80公里。龍脊梯田分為金坑（大寨）瑤族梯田觀景區，平安壯族梯田觀景區。通常意義上的龍脊梯田是指龍脊平安壯族梯田，也是開發較早的梯田。梯田分佈在海拔300米至1100米之間，最大坡度達50度，前往梯田幾乎都是盤山公路，一直升到約海拔600米以上，到梯田時海拔達到880米。龍脊梯田開墾元代到清初，整整650年。梯田處處有，可像龍脊梯田這樣大規模的集中實屬罕見。從流水湍急的河谷，到白雲繚繞的山巔，從萬木蔥蘢的林邊到石壁陡崖前，凡有泥土的地方，都開闢了梯田。那起伏的和高聳入雲的山，蜿蜓的如同一級級登上藍天的天梯，像天與地之間一幅幅巨大的抽象畫。

每年農曆四月十五日龍脊梯田開始灌水,也是最美攝影時侯,但錯過了,碰上今年火把節在端午節第二天,雖然已過灌水三星期了並插了秧長出了幼苗,但過一個火把節也很美麗,火把節今年在九龍五虎觀景台舉行,約下午三時村民會拋山雞及魚落田,任何人都可以搶,然後田邊放蠟燭,晚上七時點燈手持火把舉行儀式並放煙火慶祝,第二天從壯族平安寨徒步往瑤族大寨,當天時晴時雨

Longsheng Rice Terrace
The Longsheng Rice Terraces (simplified Chinese: 龙胜梯田; traditional Chinese: 龍勝梯田; pinyin: Lóngshèng Tītián), also called the Longji Rice Terraces (simplified Chinese: 龙脊梯田; traditional Chinese: 龍脊梯田; pinyin: Lóngjǐ Tītián), are located in Longsheng County, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) from Guilin, Guangxi, China.
The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, between 600 m to 800 m above sea level. A coiling terrace line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of rice in fall, and layers of frost in winter. The terraced fields were mostly built about 650 years ago.
Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Terraced Rice Fields received their name because the rice terraces resemble a dragon's scales, while the summit of the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon.
In early June, water is pumped over the rice paddies and young plants are transferred to the main terraces.

Terrace (agriculture)
In agriculture, a terrace is a piece of sloped plane that has been cut into a series of successively receding flat surfaces or platforms, which resemble steps, for the purposes of more effective farming. This type of landscaping, therefore, is called terracing. Graduated terrace steps are commonly used to farm on hilly or mountainous terrain. Terraced fields decrease both erosion and surface runoff, and may be used to support growing crops that require irrigation, such as rice. The rice terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the significance of this technique.
Terraced paddy fields are used widely in rice, wheat and barley farming in east, south, and southeast Asia, as well as other places. Drier-climate terrace farming is common throughout the Mediterranean Basin, e.g., in Cadaqués, Catalonia, where they were used for vineyards, olive trees, cork oak, etc., on Mallorca, and in Cinque Terre, Italy.
In the South American Andes, farmers have used terraces, known as andenes, for over a thousand years to farm potatoes, maize, and other native crops. Terraced farming was developed by the Wari' and other peoples of the south-central Andes before 1000 AD, centuries before they were used by the Inca, who adopted them. The terraces were built to make the most efficient use of shallow soil and to enable irrigation of crops.

Bird's-eye view
A bird's-eye view is an elevated view of an object from above, with a perspective as though the observer were a bird, often used in the making of blueprints, floor plans and maps.
It can be an aerial photograph, but also a drawing. Before manned flight was common, the term "bird's eye" was used to distinguish views drawn from direct observation at high locations (for example a mountain or tower), from those constructed from an imagined (bird's) perspectives. Bird's eye views as a genre have existed since classical times. The last great flourishing of them was in the mid-to-late 19th century, when bird's eye view prints were popular in the United States and Europe.
Terminology
The terms aerial view and aerial viewpoint are also sometimes used synonymous with bird's-eye view. The term aerial view can refer to any view from a great height, even at a wide angle, as for example when looking sideways from an airplane window or from a mountain top. Overhead view is fairly synonymous with bird's-eye view but tends to imply a less lofty vantage point than the latter term. Meow. Meow. Who can meow the loudest? Well, thankfully we've been training for these steps at our hostel. We're on the fifth floor so we're used to going up and down the stairs everyday. And we tend to forget things which means we have to run up and down multiple times a day. True story. We just went the wrong way so now we have to go down all of these steps. And back up. Join us on our adventure to the Longsheng Rice Terraces. After a late breakfast at our hostel we went up to the viewpoint "Music from Paradise" and enjoyed the magnificent landscape of the rice terraces there. Afterwards we started our hiking trip from there to Ping'An Village which turned out to be at some spots pretty challenging. It was a good 3h walk and the weather was on our side. Worth mentioning might be the arrival at ZhongLiu Village where we were basically chased by local Yao woman who wanted to cook for us at their home, sure for some remuneration. Hiking up Longsheng Rice Terraces (Longji Dragon's Backbone) in Guilin, China (龙胜梯田 - 龙脊梯田) 龍勝梯田 Here we are at the Longji Rice Fields which are located just outside of Guilin. We've had such good luck. Check out the weather and the views behind.
So we are hiking up to one of the viewing platforms. This is going to be tough because it's like forty degrees outside and we're been told it'll take 30 minutes to one hour depending on our pace. So I'm trying to stay hydrated. Audrey is going to have to workout today.

Sam over here just met a cat. Meow. Meow. Meow. Meow. Who can meow the loudest?
Well, thankfully we've been training for these steps at our hostel. We're on the fifth floor so we're used to going up and down the stairs everyday. And we tend to forget things which means we have to run up and down multiple times a day. True story.
We just went the wrong way so now we have to go down all of these steps. And back up.
Well, that concludes our sweat fest. I mean trek. It was great I just wish it could have been twenty degrees cooler.

Join us on our adventure to the Longsheng Rice Terraces. After a late breakfast at our hostel we went up to the viewpoint "Music from Paradise" and enjoyed the magnificent landscape of the rice terraces there. Afterwards we started our hiking trip from there to Ping'An Village which turned out to be at some spots pretty challenging. It was a good 3h walk and the weather was on our side. Worth mentioning might be the arrival at ZhongLiu Village where we were basically chased by local Yao woman who wanted to cook for us at their home, sure for some remuneration.

2016 China Trip Day 11 in LongSheng Rice Terrace & Elephant Trunk HIll, Guilin, GuangXi, China
The Longsheng Rice Terraces, also called the Longji Rice Terraces, are located in Longsheng County, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) from Guilin, Guangxi, China. The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, between 600 m to 800 m above sea level. A coiling terrace line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of rice in fall, and layers of frost in winter. The terraced fields were mostly built about 650 years ago. Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Terraced Rice Fields received their name because the rice terraces resemble a dragon's scales, while the summit of the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon. To say that this place is special is an understatement. Apart from the harrowing ride up, this place will always resinate with us. We stayed at the Dragons Den Hostel, another really special place. Their english was great (better than my Chinese) and the map to get to the hostel, part of the Dazhai village, was clear with photographic monuments along the way, just don't forget the map like we did! If you do there is free wifi next to the cable car entrance. Hiking in the Lonji Rice Terraces - Ping'an to Old Longji
The eve of the 2013 Spring Festival and we travel to the Longji Rice Terraces near Guilin. We stay in Ping'an which is more or less in the middle part of the Longji Terraces. This walk takes us out into the countryside to Old Longji village, a distance of about 6 kilometres. We easily get there and back in a day and we have time to climb up to the 2 viewpoints. Longsheng Rice Terraces (龙胜梯田) Adventures - Part 6: Back to Civilization
Our journey has come to an end. We are leaving Ping'An Village by a small bus on bumpy mountain roads towards Heping (which turned out to be a mistake to get off there instead of Longsheng), witnessed a fight of Chinese drivers and ended up in an illegal taxi with a Belgium family to go to Guilin. Guilin bus station and it's surroundings can't be described in words, so just follow me, especially to the public toilet. Our bus supposed to leave Guilin at 17:40 (~12h drive). At the end we left the bus station at 19:45, had to stop at a gas station to fill up the tank and somewhere else to pick up more people. Rice terraces of Longji (Guilin)
This is the most beautiful place I have ever been to. The scenery was just mindblowing and better yet It wasn't touristy. Tradition lives on in this place. This place was made for flying drones. The Elephant Trunk Hill (Chinese: 象鼻山; pinyin: Xiàngbí Shān) is a hill, landmark and tourist attraction in Guilin, Guangxi, China. It is the symbol of the city of Guilin. It got its name because it looks like an elephant drinking water. The round opening that would be under the elephant’s trunk is known as Water-Moon Cave because at night the reflection of the moon can be seen through the arch and it looks as if it is under the water and floating on the surface of the water at the same time. Elephant Trunk Hill and Water-Moon Cave are located at the confluence of the Taohua River and the Lijiang River

So we are hiking up to one of the viewing platforms. This is going to be tough because it's like forty degrees outside and we're been told it'll take 30 minutes to one hour depending on our pace. So I'm trying to stay hydrated. Audrey is going to have to workout today.

Well, thankfully we've been training for these steps at our hostel. We're on the fifth floor so we're used to going up and down the stairs everyday. And we tend to forget things which means we have to run up and down multiple times a day. True story.
We just went the wrong way so now we have to go down all of these steps. And back up.
Well, that concludes our sweat fest. I mean trek. It was great I just wish it could have been twenty degrees cooler.

So tonight is our very last night in Yangshuo, a charming little town in Southwestern China, so we're going to show you around the main strip.
So our first stop is going to be the street food market. I haven't eaten in maybe two hours, so it's time to get a snack.
If I had to choose between Guilin and Yangshuo the two most popular cities in this region it's definitely Yangshuo. It's a more historic town. It's a lot more pedestrian friendly and there are great
As we were wandering around the night market tonight we had lots of people come up to us and ask to take photos beside us. At least probably four or five times and we finally filmed the last one. It was really cool. We were like celebrities in China. Yeah, almost famous.
So, this market had some pretty cool souvenirs. We saw fake Chinese passports if you want to take one of those home. They also had combs carved out of ox bone. They had these stamps where you can get your Chinese name carved on them and then you can just sign documents that way which is pretty cool.
Today we are visiting a local hill tribe that just lives a few hours outside of Guilin and we've come here because this community is known for the women's long hair. They grow it out and it's almost a meter and a half long and we're actually going to be watching a performance where they spin their hair and wrap it up and show us how they wear it.
Today we're in between Guilin and Yangshuo and we're doing a special river cruise down the Li River.
So this tour is going to be an hour and a half long and we're going to get to enjoy some pretty stunning landscapes, so I'm pretty excited about it.
When I came here two years ago it was hazy and foggy. Now it's a gorgeous glorious day.

So this is the Guilin main square. It gets really busy here at night. Lots of shops, restaurants, eateries. You can do it all here.

So we are now at the lake and the main attraction are the these two pagodas that light up at night.

Well, it's hard to believe but our time in Hong Kong has already expired. Today we're taking a train ride. Where are we going? We're crossing over into China.
We are in Guangzho. Apparently there are two train stations. We arrived at the one that is on the East End of the City and we had to get across town to the other and it was difficult but we need to keep going.
So right now we are in Guangzho station waiting for our train to Guilin. And we happen to be waiting in the VIP room.
There is no tea in this tea room.
We're going to Guilin.
Uh, we're looking for number ten.
So we're in the dining cart now getting ready to have dinner. Let's see what is on the menu if we can even read it. We barely got a seat here.
Decision time. So we did manage to find an English menu which makes things a lot easier.
Fish one. Tofu with pork. One. Okay. Rice. One Rice? Okay. Beer. One. Okay. Ah, green tea - one. okay.
So this is the friend fish with a sweet and sour sauce.

So tonight is our very last night in Yangshuo, a charming little town in Southwestern China, so we're going to show you around the main strip.
So our first stop is going to be the street food market. I haven't eaten in maybe two hours, so it's time to get a snack.
If I had to choose between Guilin and Yangshuo the two most popular cities in this region it's definitely Yangshuo. It's a more historic town. It's a lot more pedestrian friendly and there are great
As we were wandering around the night market tonight we had lots of people come up to us and ask to take photos beside us. At least probably four or five times and we finally filmed the last one. It was really cool. We were like celebrities in China. Yeah, almost famous.
So, this market had some pretty cool souvenirs. We saw fake Chinese passports if you want to take one of those home. They also had combs carved out of ox bone. They had these stamps where you can get your Chinese name carved on them and then you can just sign documents that way which is pretty cool.
Today we are visiting a local hill tribe that just lives a few hours outside of Guilin and we've come here because this community is known for the women's long hair. They grow it out and it's almost a meter and a half long and we're actually going to be watching a performance where they spin their hair and wrap it up and show us how they wear it.
Today we're in between Guilin and Yangshuo and we're doing a special river cruise down the Li River.
So this tour is going to be an hour and a half long and we're going to get to enjoy some pretty stunning landscapes, so I'm pretty excited about it.
When I came here two years ago it was hazy and foggy. Now it's a gorgeous glorious day.
Here we are at the Longji Rice Fields which are located just outside of Guilin. We've had such good luck. Check out the weather and the views behind.
So this is the Guilin main square. It gets really busy here at night. Lots of shops, restaurants, eateries. You can do it all here.

So we are now at the lake and the main attraction are the these two pagodas that light up at night.

Oh, that mapo tofu looks so good. Really generous sized portion.
Well, it's hard to believe but our time in Hong Kong has already expired. Today we're taking a train ride. Where are we going? We're crossing over into China.
We are in Guangzho. Apparently there are two train stations. We arrived at the one that is on the East End of the City and we had to get across town to the other and it was difficult but we need to keep going.
So right now we are in Guangzho station waiting for our train to Guilin. And we happen to be waiting in the VIP room.
There is no tea in this tea room.
We're going to Guilin.
Uh, we're looking for number ten.
So we're in the dining cart now getting ready to have dinner. Let's see what is on the menu if we can even read it. We barely got a seat here.
Decision time. So we did manage to find an English menu which makes things a lot easier.
Fish one. Tofu with pork. One. Okay. Rice. One Rice? Okay. Beer. One. Okay. Ah, green tea - one. okay.
So this is the friend fish with a sweet and sour sauce.
Good morning. We are almost in Guilin. Our train has been delayed about an hour and a half.

Apart from the harrowing ride up, this place will always resinate with us.
We stayed at the Dragons Den Hostel, another really special place. Their english was great (better than my Chinese) and the map to get to the hostel, part of the Dazhai village, was clear with photographic monuments along the way, just don't forget the map like we did! If you do there is free wifi next to the cable car entrance.
Be prepared for a 45 minute hike up with breathtaking scenery, theres plenty of rest stops and chickens along the way so take advantage, half the trip is the way up.

The terraced fields were mostly built about 650 years ago.
Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Terraced Rice Fields received their name because the rice terraces resemble a dragon's scales, while the summit of the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon.In early June, water is pumped over the rice paddies and young plants are transferred to the main terraces.

Our journey has come to an end. We are leaving Ping'An Village by a small bus on bumpy mountain roads towards Heping (which turned out to be a mistake to get of...
Our journey has come to an end. We are leaving Ping'An Village by a small bus on bumpy mountain roads towards Heping (which turned out to be a mistake to get off there instead of Longsheng), witnessed a fight of Chinese drivers and ended up in an illegal taxi with a Belgium family to go to Guilin. Guilin bus station and it's surroundings can't be described in words, so just follow me, especially to the public toilet. Our bus supposed to leave Guilin at 17:40 (~12h drive). At the end we left the bus station at 19:45, had to stop at a gas station to fill up the tank and somewhere else to pick up more people. For the reason we all had to work the next day we thought there might be plenty of time. Far from it! We had to stop from 2:00-5:00 somewhere in the middle of nowhere, dropped people of and picked more up on the way from Dongguan to Shenzhen. Let's put it that way: We were a bit late but it was a great and adventures trip!

Okay, so it's early morning here in Yangshuo. It's about eight o'clock and the town is still sleepy. There is hardly any people on the street, so we're going to go have breakfast at our favorite Israeli restaurant and then we're going to bike around the area.
We've rented a couple of bikes and we've decided to spend our last morning exploring around the countryside areas of Yangshuo. They were pretty cheap. Just under two dollars for each bike.

So we are hiking up to one of the viewing platforms. This is going to be tough because it's like forty degrees outside and we're been told it'll take 30 minutes to one hour depending on our pace. So I'm trying to stay hydrated. Audrey is going to have to workout today.
So we finally made it to Guilin. We've been waiting for things to cool down and now that it is evening we're going to give you a little tour of the place.

So I'm not sure we want to be walking through that tunnel when it gets a bit later in the day because it is pretty dark in there and there are no lights. And people aren't using their headlights.

When I was in Guilin two years ago this area right here used to all be traditional homes. One of my favorite restaurants was here. A really good Chinese restaurant. I used to love wandering around here. Now it's just new development.

Okay, so it's early morning here in Yangshuo. It's about eight o'clock and the town is still sleepy. There is hardly any people on the street, so we're going to go have breakfast at our favorite Israeli restaurant and then we're going to bike around the area.
We've rented a couple of bikes and we've decided to spend our last morning exploring around the countryside areas of Yangshuo. They were pretty cheap. Just under two dollars for each bike.
Today we are visiting a local hill tribe that just lives a few hours outside of Guilin and we've come here because this community is known for the women's long hair. They grow it out and it's almost a meter and a half long and we're actually going to be watching a performance where they spin their hair and wrap it up and show us how they wear it.
So tonight is our very last night in Yangshuo, a charming little town in Southwestern China, so we're going to show you around the main strip.

So our first stop is going to be the street food market. I haven't eaten in maybe two hours, so it's time to get a snack. So you're officially starving. Starving. Ravenous!
Here we are at the Longji Rice Fields which are located just outside of Guilin. We've had such good luck. Check out the weather and the views behind.

So we are hiking up to one of the viewing platforms. This is going to be tough because it's like forty degrees outside and we're been told it'll take 30 minutes to one hour depending on our pace. So I'm trying to stay hydrated. Audrey is going to have to workout today.
So we finally made it to Guilin. We've been waiting for things to cool down and now that it is evening we're going to give you a little tour of the place.

So I'm not sure we want to be walking through that tunnel when it gets a bit later in the day because it is pretty dark in there and there are no lights. And people aren't using their headlights.

When I was in Guilin two years ago this area right here used to all be traditional homes. One of my favorite restaurants was here. A really good Chinese restaurant. I used to love wandering around here. Now it's just new development.

So this is the Guilin main square. It gets really busy here at night. Lots of shops, restaurants, eateries. You can do it all here.

So we are now at the lake and the main attraction are the these two pagodas that light up at night.

This is the most beautiful place I have ever been to. The scenery was just mindblowing and better yet It wasn't touristy. Tradition lives on in this place. This place was made for flying drones.
We stayed in a tiny wooden town called Dazhai. Not Dazhai itself but up in amongst these rice terraces.
