Get on board with the latest update of Metro’s app – Metro Notify 2.1. Download now to receive live updates pushed to your device directly from Metro’s train control centre.
The app allows you to personalise Metro’s live service updates to receive the information you want at the times that you need it.
Some of the features include:
‘My Trips’ allows you set up your stations as well as lines so you can receive the next four timetabled services from your chosen stations and will show alerts for your chosen lines
A ‘Morning Update’ which assures you that your selected line/s is running a ‘good service’
An ‘Info’ section with more room for better travel advice and special event information, complete with badge icons when content is updated
Please note that the next four timetabled departures will only be provided when line status is listed as good service. If you are travelling from a station that has multiple lines running though it make sure to select all relevant lines to ensure you get all the timetabled services running through your station.
The push notifications are defined by the following travel categories which advise on the best action for you to take:
Good Service – trains are currently running on time to five minutes.
Minor delays – journey time may be increased with trains experiencing delays between five to 15 minutes; however stay with your planned travel.
Major delays – significantly longer journey times expected with trains delayed by over 15 minutes. Consider alternative transport where possible while we work to fix the problem.
Suspended – a section of the line has been suspended due to an unplanned disruption. Replacement buses will be used where possible, but alternative modes of transport should also be considered.

I like the new method for specifying your starting and ending stations and the next 4 trains available however when there is a train cancellation it still tells me when it was cancelled at the end of the line, as opposed to my station. It is also placed in the same place as the list of 4 next trains so I could no longer see what the next train would be. You used to be able to click on the cancelled train and find the times for each station to work out when you would be affected, this is no longer available. No afternoon peak notifications ever. Morning works fine.

Quite good but ... Nice app that does the job well. Light on battery use which is also good. What it really needs is the ability to tailor the travel times. I travel between 6am & 7am each morning so I don't want to know changes after then. I also travel home at 4pm which is the very start of the home travel period so alerts are no good to me by then.

Not everyone works 9-5 Should be able to set daily alerts at whatever time you need them. For example, I catch the train at 5am and many people these days work irregular hours or night shifts. Also would be good if this could be combined into the PTV app.
Metro don't seem to understand... Metro don't seem to understand that many people travel from station A to B , and not by a particular line. In my case, if I want to see line information for East Richmond to Southern Cross, I have to select every line which stops at Richmond East and monitor separately. Also, I don't understand why this information can't just be in the PTV app. Just make one complete app, or make the information freely available elsewhere, like Google maps.

The app used to be good. You used to be able to click on notifications and see them completely. Now when you click on the notification, it just opens up the up to your line and says its running a good service. I go to the actual web page of metro and it says the line is suspended until further notice. So unreliable.

Can't dismiss travel updates Updates need to be able to be dismissed.... can't see details of next departures on my trips while the travel alert is active.... not helpful if the cancelled service is half an hour away and there are scheduled departures before then. Very annoying!!

Poorly thought out. Shows too much text for a notification but doesn't make it expandable - then when you go into the app there doesn't appear to be a way to see the full text either. Shows train times sometimes but just alerts other times. Has both a hamburger menu and a navigation bar. Doesn't let you choose a ringtone, so it'll ring/vibrate just like a text, despite being nowhere near as important, and you can't change it unless it's a feature of your ROM.
02-05-2017 I wake up in the morning and get the notification that the there is a signal fault at Newport (as usual Werribee line) and that buses are replacing trains. I thought I'll walk to the station and catch a bus and suddenly I find that trains are running I ended up on the 9.47am train from Hoppers and the application is still showing trains are unavailable. How come!!!!!! Each minute makes a big difference when catching a train. Not getting the right feed at the right time. In addition the application has a big flaw where I can't expand the info box to read it all. Thanks.
Notifications don't work consistently I have this app set up to show notifications during peak times. It works in the morning, but I never get notifications of delays and cancellations in the evening. I also get the occasional random notification in the middle of the day about escalators and lifts not working in the City Loop.
Bad service plus application is not upto date The worst service in the country alwats a train fault and delay happens every alternate day.. looks like the train accuracy chart and the train service chat is al rigged.
Info goes missing Still needs expandable notifications. At least full notification text pops up quickly after tapping a notification. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to expand an alert to see train times (if there are multiple alerts not in schedule order), that information is gone, so I know about cancellations, but not when the next train is expected.
So it notifies me that there are major delays but in the app claims the line service is good. This app is garbage. How on earth am I meant to know of the numerous and daily delays to the werribee line if the app and notifications contradict each other. I realise you're trying to make out you provide a good service but you don't. At least make the app honest and reflect the real status please.
The app would be better if it provided afternoon updates and notifications. Morning notifications are no longer coming through meaning I'm not aware of issues until I arrive at the station which makes the app redundant
No notifications Not sure why I've got this installed, my previous phone - a Samsung S3 was able to push notifications easily. Current device - this is a dormant application which only wakes up when I open it. Not much use bar to copy the tardy messages into social media on how my services is delayed, again.
One improvement that should be made is you should still be able to see the next train in "My Trips" even when there are current alerts. Really annoying that the next train disappears!
When you get a travel alert for a line it obscures the next four train view; therefore is not much good for replanning to get around the issue. Also it has departures for your line in cluding those which don't go as far as your nominsted home station. For example it lists all departures from Southern Cross for the Pakenham line even the ones which terminate at Dandenong even though you have specified Berwick ad your destination.
Only ever notifies at 6am saying there is good service. Have to manually check for updates after that, other than occasionally getting a notification mentioning lifts out of service at one of the city loop stations. Pretty useless, much like their train network.
Useless app. spouting mis information. Frankston line experiencing 30 min delays due to a broken down train, yet the app says there is a good service with trains running on time. Better off not using it.
Limited use. Can't select to have notification at specific times so they pop up all day. Parts of the message are hidden and unreadable. Says there are no trains to Upfield in the morning, but they should be running. Says there is a good service even when very late.
I thought this app was great however now I'm lucky to see any departures at all! As well as that any notifications about delays will never show. Aren't we supposed to be getting real time network updates?
Everyone get should get Twitter and follow metro for alerts it's at least 50% more accurate. Not sure why I still have this app still, this barely tells about delays on my line even though I have set it for notifications all day regardless.
Would love it if... Brilliant app rendered useless by alerts which block trip information. Please resolve so I can add a few stars. Would be so much more useful than that other app for local train travel. Love that it can display all local departures when they're are no alerts (this is rare) so I could pick which station to walk to as I'm between two.
Notifications interface bad The most important feature of this app is glitchy. The notifications when sent do not open in full window which means that we can only see what's on the notification blue bar. Anything more than the blue is not accessible. Also there should be option of setting specific time for notifications instead of blocks.
Pathetic in giving information Due to the unreliability of Melbourne trains it's important to be able to have an understanding of what's going on with the train lines. This app is rubbish for providing that understanding. If you're lucky enough to get an update on why your trains (plural - because it's never just one train...) have been cancelled expect it half an hour later from when it was actually relevant information. You're better off asking the station staff what's going on than relying on this app.
Below average Useless when I don't know what time the next train is due if a travel alert is showing. Need the ability to dismiss an alert and view the schedule.
Not as good as the older version Shows good service even when train is delayed over 30 minutes. Not worth having. A total waste of time.
Why no Laverton line? Why? My station has Williamstown, Werribee and Laverton lines running through it. This app has no Laverton line. Frustrating. I know the times from memory but don't know if there are any delays on that line. Please add. And add capability to see next trains even when there is a delay notification. Thanks.
Can only specify notifications for peak times rather than my train. Nothing like getting into work then receiving 10 notifications about how the Belgrave line is now delayed. Renders the notify aspect completely useless, deleting app
You get notifactions for minor timetable changes that don't really impact anyone, but as soon as there are major issues Metro does not send notifications. Not a useful app.
Very useful! I use this app all the time to check the statuses on the train lines I catch and see any disruptions so I can always plan my journey ahead.
It's great that it tells you when a line is delayed, but then it hides the time to the next train. Due to works all long weekend between 3 stations I had no idea what time my train was for work on Labour Day
Good I like it how it notifies you about your trips. I thought these trips will be real at first. After I come home from school every weekday, I get TONS of notifications. Good app!
Great app until somethings happened on a line then it's useless. Tells you what happened an hour ago that's no longer relevant and not what trains are departing which you actually need to know
Irrelevant notifications. Good service spam but doesn't actually tell you when service is down. Some notifications different to what was broadcast. Don't care if lifts aren't working either
Terrible app Push notifications don't work or come through 20 minutes after the fact. Better off checking the website
why bother with notifications if you can only read the first 6 words of it, and when going to the app, there's no other info? besides the info is at times hours late, and the app almost never is accurate. of course we keep it installed for the one in five chance that it actually works.
Unable to change the direction of travel whenever there is a delay on my line (very often). Also receiving notifications all day despite only requesting them twice before 9am. Unbelievably useless, like all things metro.
Useless App is only useful if need random midday announcements about various escalators being broken or services outside your travel times. When it comes to actually notifying you about changes to your service that actually affect you its either slow to update or doesn't actually bring up a notification.
Rarely useful Updates to trains only occurs after delays happen. Often delays aren't reported.
A big step in the right direction but.. It's unclear initially that you need to select your journey per train line rather than simply start and finish destination like pvt journey planner. Also there should be an option to partially collapse line alerts to see next 5 trains rather than just next 1. Lastly, but most importantly, If I am able to take a journey from Richmond to South Yarra on about 3 different trains why am I unable to see all my options on this app? I want the ability to swipe sideways through my options
