The Pianist is a 2002 historical drama film co-produced and directed by Roman Polanski, scripted by Ronald Harwood, and starring Adrien Brody. It is based on the autobiographical book The Pianist, a World War II memoir by the Polish-Jewish pianist and composer Władysław Szpilman. The film was a co-production between France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Poland.
The Pianist met with significant critical praise and received multiple awards and nominations. It was awarded the Palme d'Or at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. At the 75th Academy Awards, The Pianist won Oscars for Best Director (Polanski), Best Adapted Screenplay (Ronald Harwood), and Best Actor (Brody), and was also nominated for four other awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture. It also won the BAFTA Award for Best Film and BAFTA Award for Best Direction in 2003 and seven French Césars including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Brody.

Pianist
A pianist (/ˈpiːənᵻst/ PEE-ə-nist, /ˈpjænᵻst/ PYAN-ist) is an individual musician who plays the piano. Most forms of Western music can make use of the piano. Consequently, pianists have a wide variety of repertoire and styles to choose from, including traditionally classical music, jazz, blues and all sorts of popular music, including rock music. Most pianists can, to a certain extent, play other keyboard-related instruments such as the synthesizer, harpsichord, celesta and the organ.
Pianists past and present
Modern classical pianists dedicate their careers to performing, recording, teaching, researching as well as learning new works/expanding their repertoire. They generally do not write or transcribe music as pianists did in the 19th century. Some classical pianists might specialize in accompaniment and chamber music while others (relatively few) will perform as full-time piano soloists.
Classical
Mozart could be considered the first "concert pianist" as he performed widely on the piano. Composers Beethoven and Clementi from the classical era were also famed for their playing, as were, from the romantic era, Liszt, Brahms, Chopin, Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff. From that era, leading performers less known as composers were Clara Schumann and Hans von Bûlow. However, as we do not have modern audio recordings of most of these pianists, we rely mainly on written commentary to give us an account of their technique and style.

Frédéric Chopin
Frédéric François Chopin (/ˈʃoʊpæn/; French pronunciation: [fʁe.de.ʁik fʁɑ̃.swa ʃɔ.pɛ̃]; 22 February or 1 March 1810 – 17 October 1849), born Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin, was a Polish composer and a virtuoso pianist of the Romantic era, who wrote primarily for the solo piano. He gained and has maintained renown worldwide as one of the leading musicians of his era, whose "poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation." Chopin was born in what was then the Duchy of Warsaw, and grew up in Warsaw, which after 1815 became part of Congress Poland. A child prodigy, he completed his musical education and composed his earlier works in Warsaw before leaving Poland at the age of 20, less than a month before the outbreak of the November 1830 Uprising.
At the age of 21 he settled in Paris. Thereafter, during the last 18 years of his life, he gave only some 30 public performances, preferring the more intimate atmosphere of the salon. He supported himself by selling his compositions and teaching piano, for which he was in high demand. Chopin formed a friendship with Franz Liszt and was admired by many of his musical contemporaries, including Robert Schumann. In 1835 he obtained French citizenship. After a failed engagement to Maria Wodzińska, from 1837 to 1847 he maintained an often troubled relationship with the French writer George Sand. A brief and unhappy visit to Majorca with Sand in 1838–39 was one of his most productive periods of composition. In his last years, he was financially supported by his admirer Jane Stirling, who also arranged for him to visit Scotland in 1848. Through most of his life, Chopin suffered from poor health. He died in Paris in 1849, probably of tuberculosis.

Adrien Brody
Adrien Brody (born April 14, 1973) is an American actor. He received widespread recognition and acclaim after starring in Roman Polanski's The Pianist (2002), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor at age 29, making him the youngest actor to win in that category. Brody is also the only male American actor to receive the French César Award.
Early life
Brody was born in Woodhaven, Queens, New York, the son of Sylvia Plachy, a photographer, and Elliot Brody, a retired history professor and painter. Brody's father is of Polish Jewish descent; Brody's mother – who was raised as a Catholic – was born in Budapest, Hungary, the daughter of a Catholic Hungarian aristocrat father and a Czech Jewish mother. Brody was raised "without a strong connection" to Judaism or Catholicism.
As a child, Brody performed magic shows at children's birthday parties as "The Amazing Adrien". He attended the I.S. 145 Joseph Pulitzer middle school and New York's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. His parents enrolled him in acting classes to distance him from the dangerous children with whom he associated. He attended summer camp at Long Lake Camp for the Arts in the Adirondacks in upstate New York. Brody attended Stony Brook University before transferring to Queens College for a semester.

Britain's Got Talent
Britain's Got Talent (often shortened to BGT) is a British television talent show competition which started in June 2007 and originated from the Got Talent franchise. The show is a Thames production (formerly Talkback Thames) distributed by FremantleMedia and is produced in association with Syco TV. The show is broadcast on ITV and its sister show Britain's Got More Talent is broadcast on ITV2. Anyone of any age with some sort of talent can audition for the show. Acts compete against each other in order to gain the audience support while trying to win the title of "The winner of Britain's Got Talent''. The original judging panel consisted of the show's creator Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan. Kelly Brook was brought in as a fourth judge in series 3, but was axed after one audition site. Morgan did not return for series 5 and Cowell was only present during the live shows, while David Hasselhoff and Michael McIntyre joined the panel. Alesha Dixon and David Walliams joined the panel in series 6 as replacements for McIntyre and Hasselhoff.

The Pianist recounts a true story from the Nazi Holocaust that is both horrifying and inspiring. Set inside the walled confines of the Warsaw Ghetto, the film focuses on the struggle of a famous Polish pianist, Wladyslaw Szpilman, to survive after the loss of his entire family to the concentration camps. In spite of the chilling indifference of many to the slaughter of the Jews of Warsaw, Szpilman is ultimately saved by a German Army officer named Wilhelm Hosenfeld. A devout Catholic, Hosenfeld is credited with helping to hide and rescue a number of Polish victims of Nazi atrocities. Hosenfeld himself was eventually captured by Russian troops and died in a Soviet concentration camp after the war. However, at Szpilman's urging, he was posthumously honored by Israel as one of the "Righteous Gentiles" who, along with Oskar Schindler and others, refused to ignore the humanity of Holocaust victims. The film stars Adrien Brody, Thomas Kretschmann, Frank Finlay, Maureen Lipman, Emilia Fox and Michal Zebrowski. The Pianist (Genocide)
The Pianist recounts a true story from the Nazi Holocaust that is both horrifying and inspiring. Set inside the walled confines of the Warsaw Ghetto, the film focuses on the struggle of a famous Polish pianist, Wladyslaw Szpilman, to survive after the loss of his entire family to the concentration camps. In spite of the chilling indifference of many to the slaughter of the Jews of Warsaw, Szpilman is ultimately saved by a German Army officer named Wilhelm Hosenfeld. A devout Catholic, Hosenfeld is credited with helping to hide and rescue a number of Polish victims of Nazi atrocities. Hosenfeld himself was eventually captured by Russian troops and died in a Soviet concentration camp after the war. However, at Szpilman's urging, he was posthumously honored by Israel as one of the "Right...

The Pianist recounts a true story from the Nazi Holocaust that is both horrifying and inspiring. Set inside the walled confines of the Warsaw Ghetto, the film focuses on the struggle of a famous Polish pianist, Wladyslaw Szpilman, to survive after the loss of his entire family to the concentration camps. In spite of the chilling indifference of many to the slaughter of the Jews of Warsaw, Szpilman is ultimately saved by a German Army officer named Wilhelm Hosenfeld. A devout Catholic, Hosenfeld is credited with helping to hide and rescue a number of Polish victims of Nazi atrocities.
Hosenfeld himself was eventually captured by Russian troops and died in a Soviet concentration camp after the war. However, at Szpilman's urging, he was posthumously honored by Israel as one of the "Righteous Gentiles" who, along with Oskar Schindler and others, refused to ignore the humanity of Holocaust victims.
The film stars Adrien Brody, Thomas Kretschmann, Frank Finlay, Maureen Lipman, Emilia Fox and Michal Zebrowski.

In July, 19-year-old pianist Benjamin Grosvenor made his debut at the Proms to great acclaim, wowing both audiences and critics with his performance of Liszt's Piano Concerto No 2 in A Major. The youngest ever soloist to perform in the First Night of the Proms, he returns to the Royal Albert Hall on August 6 to take on Britten's Piano Concerto.
In 2005, Imagine discovered this musical prodigy in the making. Alan Yentob talked to the 12-year-old Grosvenor about his success the previous year, in the piano section of The Young Musician of The Year Competition. This is another chance to see that documentary.
Imagine: Being a Concert Pianist gets under the lid of this extreme form of musicianship. Celebrated pianists, including Yevgeny Kissin, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Chinese wunderkind Lang Lang, talk intimately about their lives, their work and their motivation. The film gives a frank and personal perspective on a profession for which the only real qualification is genius, richly illustrated with specially recorded rehearsal and performance.

The Pianist: Synopsis
The winner of the top prize, the coveted Palme d'Or (Best Picture) award, at the 2002 Cannes International Film Festival, The Pianist is the latest film from one of the world's true visionary filmmakers: Roman Polanski. The film is Polanski's most personal statement, the one he has waited four decades to make, a testament to the belief that the triumph of the human spirit is wedded to the transforming power of art.
The Pianist was adapted by U.K. playwright/screenwriter Ronald Harwood ("The Dresser") from the autobiography of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish Jew who detailed his survival during World War II. A celebrated composer and pianist, he played the last live music heard over Polish radio airwaves before Nazi artillery hit. During the brutal occupation, he eluded deportation and remained in the devastated Warsaw Ghetto. There, he struggled to stay alive even when cast away from those he loved. He would eventually reclaim his artistic gifts, and confront his fears, with aid from the unlikeliest source – a German officer who helped him hide in the final days of the war.
Adrien Brody ("Summer of Sam," "The Thin Red Line") portrays Mr. Szpilman. The supporting cast includes Thomas Kretschmann ("Blade II"), Frank Finlay ("The Four Musketeers"), Maureen Lipman ("Educating Rita"), Emilia Fox (the "David Copperfield" mini-series), Ed Stoppard ("The Little Vampire"), Julia Rayner ("Topsy-Turvy"), and newcomer Jessica Kate Meyer.
Roman Polanski himself escaped the Cracow Ghetto, at the age of 7, through a hole in a barbed-wire fence. The Pianist marks the first time that he has made a movie in Poland in 40 years.
Polanski has received four Academy Award nominations over the years: for directing "Tess" and "Chinatown"; for his screenplay adaptation of "Rosemary's Baby"; and as director of foreign-language film nominee "Knife in the Water" (his first feature film). Among his other films are "Repulsion," "Macbeth," "The Tenant," "Frantic," and "Death and the Maiden."

On The INNERview, you can meet HJ Lim, also known as Lim Hyun-jung, a talented pianist who was the first Korean to record Beethoven's complete piano sonatas, and who shot to the top of the Billboard and iTunes classical music charts.
She began learning the piano at the age of 3 and departed for France on her own at the age of 12 to fulfill her dreams. She overcame the language barrier and racial discrimination and faced challenges and new paths which others do not take on.
Her activities were different from other classical music performers. She performed Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" at an encore recital in 2009. The video clip of this performance went viral online and the international audience began to zoom in on HJ Lim.
In the following year, she decided to release Beethoven's complete piano sonatas, and she caused a sensation when she performed for eight straight days in Paris.
In 2012, she was the youngest pianist to record Beethoven's complete piano sonatas with EMI. In addition, she came in 1st places on Billboard and iTunes classical music charts.
HJ Lim just turned 30, and she takes on new challenges with a strong sense of duty as an artist.

On The INNERview, you can meet HJ Lim, also known as Lim Hyun-jung, a talented pianist who was the first Korean to record Beethoven's complete piano sonatas, and who shot to the top of the Billboard and iTunes classical music charts.
She began learning the piano at the age of 3 and departed for France on her own at the age of 12 to fulfill her dreams. She overcame the language barrier and racial discrimination and faced challenges and new paths which others do not take on.
Her activities were different from other classical music performers. She performed Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" at an encore recital in 2009. The video clip of this performance went viral online and the international audience began to zoom in on HJ Lim.
In the following year, she decided to release Beethoven's complete piano sonatas, and she caused a sensation when she performed for eight straight days in Paris.
In 2012, she was the youngest pianist to record Beethoven's complete piano sonatas with EMI. In addition, she came in 1st places on Billboard and iTunes classical music charts.
HJ Lim just turned 30, and she takes on new challenges with a strong sense of duty as an artist.

3살에 피아노를 배우기 시작하여, 12살에 홀로 프랑스 유학을 떠난 임현정
그녀는 언어의 장벽과 인종차별을 넘어 남들이 하지 않는 도전으로 승부를 걸었다
실제로 그녀의 행보는 보통의 연주가들과 달랐다.
2009년 앙코르 곡이었던 림스키 코르사코프의 [왕벌의 비행] 연주 동영상이 삽시간에 전 세계로 퍼져 큰 인기를 끌며 세상은 그녀를 주목하기 시작했다.
이듬해 그녀는 '베토벤 소나타 전곡 연주'라는 놀라운 결심을 하게 되고,파리에서 8일 연속 공연으로 전 세계 클래식 음악계에 반향을 일으킨다.
