IMAX at the Smithsonian

The Smithsonian's 3 IMAX® theaters have the largest screens in the Washington, DC region and measure up to 6 stories tall! Our giant-screen films offer an immersive experience that complements the museum exhibits.

The Planetarium's 77-foot digital dome theater is the only full-dome cinema in DC. Audiences can journey through time and space to view some of the most extraordinary images not viewable to the naked eye.

Plan your visit or find further information about Smithsonian Theaters on our FAQ page.

Arrange a special morning screening for your group with Smithsonian's IMAX On Demand. Choose from any of the films in the IMAX and Planetarium library and screen the film before the museum doors open to the public.

Please note that the Johnson IMAX Theater closed on October 1, 2017.
