Association of Pacific Rim Universities

Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is an alliance of leading research universities of the Pacific Rim established in 1997. This Association was envisioned by four Californian university leaders: President Steven B. Sample of the University of Southern California, Chancellor Charles Young of University of California, Los Angeles, President Thomas Everhart of California Institute of Technology and Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien of University of California, Berkeley.

The consortium aims to foster cooperation in education, research and enterprise, thereby contributing to the economic, scientific and cultural advancement of the Pacific Rim. It also aims to promote scientific, educational and cultural collaboration among Pacific Rim economies. In both its objectives and guiding principles, APRU embodies a commitment to global academic and research standards.

APRU recognises that its activities can be powerful catalysts for expanding educational, economic and technological cooperation among Pacific Rim economies. The association seeks to promote dialogue and collaboration between academic institutions in the Pacific Rim so that they can become effective players in today's global knowledge economy.

APRU currently consists of 45 prominent institutions from the Americas, Asia, and Australasia. This Association provides the opportunity for a diverse network of research universities to come together for the advancement of Asia-Pacific Higher Education.

3rd APRU University Museum Research Symposium 2016

'Museum Teaching Beyond the Faculties', Hong Kong University, 5 - 7 October 2016

The 3rd APRU Research Symposium on University Museums will focus on education beyond traditional faculty courses and classroom settings. Within APRU museums we are teaching diverse topics, often in highly interdisciplinary formats, that enhance and expand the established offerings of our affiliated universities. University museum teaching opens new doors and illustrates innovative ways to approach teaching and community engagement, thereby expanding the reach of institutions to a diverse population across and beyond the academy.
