Kerry Allen Livgren (born September 18, 1949) is an American musician and songwriter, best known as one of the founding members and primary songwriters for the 1970s progressive rock band, Kansas.
Livgren was raised in Topeka, Kansas by his father, Allen Leroy, an industrial engineer, and his mother, Betty (nee McElhiney). He was drawn to music at a young age, his first musical interests developed with classical and jazz influences. His musical odyssey started with an electric guitar he built using a cheap Stella guitar, a Sears amplifier and a low-quality Astatic microphone. Along with learning guitar, Livgren also focused on learning to write songs due to his desire for more creative expression and originality. He attended Washburn University for some time.
Livgren was a member of numerous bands in the late 1960s and early 1970s and quickly developed a reputation for complex compositions and poetic lyrics that explored spiritual themes. His investigations into various religions are reflected in the lyrics of his songs on Kansas' first six albums. He explored themes such as reincarnation, astral travel, apparitions, nihilism and human frailty, among others.
County Kerry is a county in the southwest of Ireland.

Warren Ham (born 1957) is a vocalist, saxophonist, flutist from Fort Worth, Texas.
During the early 70s, Warren and his brother Bill formed The Ham Brothers Band and included Ira Wilkes on bass, Red Young on piano and organ and Dahrell Norris on drums. The group recorded for Texas producer Huey P. Meaux. It is widely assumed that the relationship with Meaux did more to hurt The Ham Brothers Band than help and despite critical acclaim for the work, the album never made it in the marketplace. It was soon taken out of print.
In 1978 The Ham Brothers band had replaced Wilkes and Young with Bob Parr and Ken Rarrick, both from the acclaimed jazz education program at the University of North Texas. Later that same year, David Gates, of Bread fame, hired the Ham Brothers to tour as part of Bread. The act was then billed as David Gates and Bread. A year later pop diva Cher secured the services of the same band. When Cher recorded the project album Black Rose, Warren joined the band for the recording and the subsequent supporting tour.
Michael D. Gleason (November 16, 1876 – January 11, 1923) was an American rower who competed in the 1904 Summer Olympics.
In 1904 he was part of the American boat, which won the gold medal in the eights.

A music video I made for the song No Standing by Kerry Livgren / AD from the album Reconstructions (1986). The version used here is the closing track of the 1992 double album Decade (1992). I've always considered this song to be the antithesis of Dust In The Wind. Basically it deals with the same subject matter, but this time seen through eyes of hope instead of despair.

Original Kansas member Kerry Livgren joined the band for a special appearance during the 40th Anniversary Fan Appreciation Concert in Pittsburgh, Pa., August 17, 2013. This excerpt from "Carry On Wayward Son" shows that Kerry still has it on the guitar! Later in the show he was back at the keyboards. The concert was held at the former Stanley Theater, now known as the Benedum Center, the site of a career-enhancing concert for the band involving Queen and Styx some 38 years before. Dio & Kerry Livgren - To Live For The King
Posted this to showcase the higher notes of lead singer Steve Walsh. It appeared on Kerry Livgrens first solo album, Seeds Of Change, in 1980.
Dust in the Wind was written by Kerry Livgren as a guitar exercise, with the lyrics based on Native American poetry. This version was performed by Steve Walsh, Billy Greer, David Ragsdale, Rich Williams, Kerry Livgren and Steve Morse. This version also features the Washburn Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Larry Baird.

Enjoy this full show by old era Kansas! I've digitally enhanced both sound and image (in 16:9) to make this 30 year old gem shine again. In 1981 Kansas was the top grossing live act worldwide and this recording from the following year clearly shows the reasons for that: unsurpassed individual musical skills and impeccably tight playing as a collective. Live the band sounded even better than on their studio albums. I mean, just compare the album version of a song like Crossfire to what you hear here... This is the original line-up minus Steve Walsh, who had left a few months before and had been replaced by John Elefante. Also helping out during the Vinyl Confessions live shows was Warren Ham, formerly of Bloodrock. He would later be asked to join Toto but went on and joined Kerry Livgren an...
Better image and sound on this one. All other info can be found in the video itself. None of this material has been commercialy released. Here's a nice example of one of the more straight rock 'n roll songs Kansas used to play live early on in their career. It's also one of the few songs where Robby Steinhardt does all of the singing. The energy coming from the stage back then was just amazing! I'd like to tell you where the audio and video is from, but I fear one of "them" might want to take it down (as they've already done with some of my other Kansas uploads). All I can say is the music was never officialy released (I just wish the band would open up the vault one day) and recorded during the Masque tour at their "home away from home", that is Pennsylvania, one of the few places outside the Midwest that had a strong following right from their incarnation back in 1974. The band: -Robby Steinhardt - vocals, violin ...

It's still a very cool convo with one of Rocks all time greatest.

The crew is back together in New York! Tom accompanies Lauren to a "very sexy party," but does more snoozing than schmoozing. Meanwhile, Bill tries to create his own website, but finds out that a folk singer in Wisconsin who is also named Bill Schulz is already using his domain name. PLUS: The shining moment of Bill's adulthood has finally come: He is going to see The Dark Knight Rises tonight at midnight! Now that the most pivotal moment in his existence has finally come and gone, what is Bill supposed to live for?
The UNL Campus Bands presented a concert of two halves. The performance of the Donald A. That portion of the evening featured music by Biedenbender, Kopetz, Rousse, Singleton, and Standridge. Performing on the second half of the program was the Jack R.
