Arroyo's Hathor Ensemble
Music in the Age of the Pyramids represents the first try of a reconstruction of the music of Ancient Egypt. After ten years of research carried out by the Spanish musicologist Rafael Pérez Arroyo, with the collaboration of Syra Bonet, the Centro de Estudios Egipcios has published a scientific works on the music, musicians, iconography, dance and musical instruments of Ancient Egypt.
The result of this research work is a book and a record entitled 'Music in the Age of Pyramids': the music is performed by Arroyo's Hathor Ensemble. The realization of the music by Arroyo was based on study of the metric structure of hymns which survive in writing, on discussion of music theory from heiroglyphics, sonic descriptions by ancient authors, and ancient iconography. Arroyo has also tried to decode the hand gestures (the same source used for Biblical music), and discovered three basic modes for Ancient Egyptian music.

Faiyum (Arabic: الفيوم) is a city in Middle Egypt and the capital of the Faiyum Governorate. It is 130 Km southwest of Cairo and occupies part of the ancient site of Crocodilopolis. Its name in English is also spelled as Fayum, Fayoum, Al Fayyum or El Faiyūm. It was formerly named Madīnet el Faiyūm. The name Faiyum may also refer to the Faiyum Oasis, although it is commonly used by Egyptians today to refer to the city.
The modern name of the city comes from Coptic 'efiom/peiom' (whence the proper name 'payoum'), meaning 'the Sea' or 'the Lake', which in turn comes from late Egyptian 'pA y-m' of the same meaning, a reference to the nearby Lake Moeris.
Faiyum is the source of some famous death masks or mummy portraits painted during the greek-roman occupation of the area. The Egyptians continued their practice of burying their dead, despite the Roman preference for cremation. While under the control of the Roman Empire, Egyptian death masks were painted on wood in a pigmented wax technique called encaustic: the Faiyum mummy portraits represent this technique.

Portrait
A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the painter or photographer, in order to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer.
History
Most early representations that are clearly intended to show an individual are of rulers, and tend to follow idealizing artistic conventions, rather than the individual features of the subject's body, though when there is no other evidence as to the ruler's appearance the degree of idealization can be hard to assess. Nonetheless, many subjects, such as Akhenaten and some other Egyptian pharaohs, can be recognised by their distinctive features. The 28 surviving rather small statues of Gudea, ruler of Lagash in Sumeria between c. 2144 - 2124 BC, show a consistent appearance with some individuality.

Kerry Livgren
Kerry Allen Livgren (born September 18, 1949) is an American musician and songwriter, best known as one of the founding members and primary songwriters for the 1970s progressive rock band, Kansas.
Biography
Livgren was raised in Topeka, Kansas by his father, Allen Leroy, an industrial engineer, and his mother, Betty (nee McElhiney). He was drawn to music at a young age, his first musical interests developed with classical and jazz influences. His musical odyssey started with an electric guitar he built using a cheap Stella guitar, a Sears amplifier and a low-quality Astatic microphone. Along with learning guitar, Livgren also focused on learning to write songs due to his desire for more creative expression and originality. He attended Washburn University for some time.
Early years, 1960s–1973
Livgren was a member of numerous bands in the late 1960s and early 1970s and quickly developed a reputation for complex compositions and poetic lyrics that explored spiritual themes. His investigations into various religions are reflected in the lyrics of his songs on Kansas' first six albums. He explored themes such as reincarnation, astral travel, apparitions, nihilism and human frailty, among others.

Arroyo's Hathor Ensemble
Music in the Age of the Pyramids represents the first try of a reconstruction of the music of Ancient Egypt. After ten years of research carried out by the Spanish musicologist Rafael Pérez Arroyo, with the collaboration of Syra Bonet, the Centro de Estudios Egipcios has published a scientific works on the music, musicians, iconography, dance and musical instruments of Ancient Egypt.
The result of this research work is a book and a record entitled 'Music in the Age of Pyramids': the music is performed by Arroyo's Hathor Ensemble. The realization of the music by Arroyo was based on study of the metric structure of hymns which survive in writing, on discussion of music theory from heiroglyphics, sonic descriptions by ancient authors, and ancient iconography. Arroyo has also tried to decode the hand gestures (the same source used for Biblical music), and discovered three basic modes for Ancient Egyptian music.

Faiyum (Arabic: الفيوم) is a city in Middle Egypt and the capital of the Faiyum Governorate. It is 130 Km southwest of Cairo and occupies part of the ancient site of Crocodilopolis. Its name in English is also spelled as Fayum, Fayoum, Al Fayyum or El Faiyūm. It was formerly named Madīnet el Faiyūm. The name Faiyum may also refer to the Faiyum Oasis, although it is commonly used by Egyptians today to refer to the city.
The modern name of the city comes from Coptic 'efiom/peiom' (whence the proper name 'payoum'), meaning 'the Sea' or 'the Lake', which in turn comes from late Egyptian 'pA y-m' of the same meaning, a reference to the nearby Lake Moeris.
Faiyum is the source of some famous death masks or mummy portraits painted during the greek-roman occupation of the area. The Egyptians continued their practice of burying their dead, despite the Roman preference for cremation. While under the control of the Roman Empire, Egyptian death masks were painted on wood in a pigmented wax technique called encaustic: the Faiyum mummy portraits represent this technique.

The result of this research work is a book and a record entitled 'Music in the Age of Pyramids': the music is performed by Arroyo's Hathor Ensemble. The realization of the music by Arroyo was based on study of the metric structure of hymns which survive in writing, on discussion of music theory from heiroglyphics, sonic descriptions by ancient authors, and ancient iconography. Arroyo has also tried to decode the hand gestures (the same source used for Biblical music), and discovered three basic modes for Ancient Egyptian music.

Faiyum (Arabic: الفيوم) is a city in Middle Egypt and the capital of the Faiyum Governorate. It is 130 Km southwest of Cairo and occupies part of the ancient site of Crocodilopolis. Its name in English is also spelled as Fayum, Fayoum, Al Fayyum or El Faiyūm. It was formerly named Madīnet el Faiyūm. The name Faiyum may also refer to the Faiyum Oasis, although it is commonly used by Egyptians today to refer to the city.
The modern name of the city comes from Coptic 'efiom/peiom' (whence the proper name 'payoum'), meaning 'the Sea' or 'the Lake', which in turn comes from late Egyptian 'pA y-m' of the same meaning, a reference to the nearby Lake Moeris.
Faiyum is the source of some famous death masks or mummy portraits painted during the greek-roman occupation of the area. The Egyptians continued their practice of burying their dead, despite the Roman preference for cremation. While under the control of the Roman Empire, Egyptian death masks were painted on wood in a pigmented wax technique called encaustic: the Faiyum mummy portraits represent this technique.

Its name in English is also spelled as Fayum, Fayoum, Al Fayyum or El Faiyūm. It was formerly named Madīnet el Faiyūm. The name Faiyum may also refer to the Faiyum Oasis, although it is commonly used by Egyptians today to refer to the city.
The modern name of the city comes from Coptic 'efiom/peiom' (whence the proper name 'payoum'), meaning 'the Sea' or 'the Lake', which in turn comes from late Egyptian 'pA y-m' of the same meaning, a reference to the nearby Lake Moeris.
Faiyum is the source of some famous death masks or mummy portraits painted during the greek-roman occupation of the area. The Egyptians continued their practice of burying their dead, despite the Roman preference for cremation. While under the control of the Roman Empire, Egyptian death masks were painted on wood in a pigmented wax technique called encaustic: the Faiyum mummy portraits represent this technique.

Leviathan - 2005 - Portrait In Scars
Here is Leviathan's legendary material (only) from the split with Russia's Blackdeath. 95% or more people only want to listen to just this side of the album in my opinion, not to mention this particular material is criminally under-appreciated & over-looked. Fun fact: This split material was created during the same time, & using the very same setup as the mighty Tentacles Of Whorror, which is why it sounds so...familar. I believe this is also the last material Jef used his Roland drum kit for. This album has a very different feel & atmosphere than did ToW, however; which is a good thing. In July 2015 Jason had the opportunity to visit Ethiopia for two weeks as part of his project with the Out of the Ashes Organization www.outoftheash.org. As part of this project Jason travels to certain areas over the city and country to capture elements of the Ethiopian culture and landscape to show the world that there are indeed different images than the western civilization is used to seeing.
Jason and his crew went to the church with the intention of filming and shooting on the outside of the church. They were surprised when they were allowed to enter the church to film, and even more surprised when the Father at the church gave his permission for Jason to shoot him and the parishioners that were there.
What ensued was a shoot that lasted for approximately 20 minutes that gave Jason and his team some of the best natural light images they have ever captured. Using the Sony A7ii with the Sony Zeiss FE 16-35, Sony Zeiss FE 35mm f/1.4, and the Sony G 90mm macro Jason captured the Father (Priest) in all natural light using very wide open apertures.

Enoch zu Guttenberg is considered an outstanding interpreter of great oratorios and symphonic works between the baroque and late-romantic periods. He has developed his unique style by consistently succeeding in uniting opposites: elements of historical performance practice on the one hand; modern, vital forms of expression on the other. His success is also based on his long years of work with the Chorgemeinschaft Neubeuern, which he became acquainted with almost 40 years ago when they were a rural “Liedertafel” and which he transformed into a world-class ensemble, as well as his cooperation with the KlangVerwaltung Orchestra, which he co-founded in 1997. Since 1999 Enoch zu Guttenberg has been art director of the international Herrenchiemsee Festival.

Enoch zu Guttenberg is considered an outstanding interpreter of great oratorios and symphonic works between the baroque and late-romantic periods. He has developed his unique style by consistently succeeding in uniting opposites: elements of historical performance practice on the one hand; modern, vital forms of expression on the other. His success is also based on his long years of work with the Chorgemeinschaft Neubeuern, which he became acquainted with almost 40 years ago when they were a rural “Liedertafel” and which he transformed into a world-class ensemble, as well as his cooperation with the KlangVerwaltung Orchestra, which he co-founded in 1997. Since 1999 Enoch zu Guttenberg has been art director of the international Herrenchiemsee Festival.

Pictures at an Exhibition (Russian: Картинки с выставки -- Воспоминание о Викторе Гартмане, Kartinki s vystavki -- Vospominaniye o Viktore Gartmane, "Pictures from an Exhibition -- A Remembrance of Viktor Hartmann") is a suite composed for piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky in 1874.
The suite is Mussorgsky's most famous piano composition, and has become a showpiece for virtuoso pianists. It has become further known through various orchestrations and arrangements produced by other musicians and composers, with Ravel's arrangement being the most recorded and performed.
It was probably in 1870 that Mussorgsky met artist and architect Viktor Hartmann. Both men were devoted to the cause of an intrinsically Russian art and quickly became friends.
Hartmann died from an aneurysm in 1873. The sudden loss of the artist, aged only 39, shook Mussorgsky along with others in Russia's art world. Stasov helped organize an exhibition of over 400 Hartmann works in the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg, Russia in February and March 1874. Here is Leviathan's legendary material (only) from the split with Russia's Blackdeath. 95% or more people only want to listen to just this side of the album in my opinion, not to mention this particular material is criminally under-appreciated & over-looked.
Fun fact: This split material was created during the same time, & using the very same setup as the mighty Tentacles Of Whorror, which is why it sounds so...familar. I believe this is also the last material Jef used his Roland drum kit for.
This album has a very different feel & atmosphere than did ToW, however; which is a good thing. We don't need another of the same album. That said, I feel that this is Jef's strongest material next to The Blind Wound, Massive Conspiracy Against All Life, & Tentacles Of Whorror. The only problem, is that not nearly as many people seem to be familar with this, as they are albums that are much easier to get a hold of, or have been advertised or distributed properly. Hence why I'm taking the time to up this on Youtube.
This is mainly for the Leviathan page on Facebook; yet for many others' benefit as well. It's been long enough that sharing this won't be a negative thing for Jef, but instead another opportunity for people who aren't familiar to hear this incredible material, & to perhaps go looking for the original or re-issue. Fuck, I wish this would get issued as a Leviathan EP, such as The Blind Wound got. Blackdeath is just fucking horrible if you ask me.

In this case I went and photographed the Philadelphia Union Soccer Club. Being that Sony is calling the a9 their top of the line "sports" camera, soccer was a great venue to test it in. I used the Sony 70-200 2.8 G Master along with the 24-70 2.8 G Master. I would have loved to have longer glass for the game but we all know Sony doesn't have it just yet.

We are back with another RAW Edit where you get to download a DNG RAW File to try your hand at editing it. This time around it's a portrait that I recently took with the Nikon D810 and 70-200 2.8 VR II.
If you are new to the RAW Edit series it's where Adam Lerner and I take one file and we both edit it in our own way. At the end we put our final edits together and compare what we like or don't like from our edits. This time around Adam did a complete portrait retouch in Lightroom showing you exactly how to smooth out the skin, make the eyes pop and much more. His edit starts at 8:18 of the video.
The great thing about photo editing is that it is pretty subjective. We all have different styles and one edit may appeal to one person where the other appeals to another. Editing is subjective and also an art form that takes a lot of practice to even scratch the surface with.
