A fail-safe or fail-secure device is one that, in the event of a specific type of failure, responds in a way that will cause no harm, or at least a minimum of harm, to other devices or to personnel.
Fail-safe and fail-secure are similar but distinct concepts. Fail-safe means that a device will not endanger lives or property when it fails. Fail-secure means that access or data will not fall into the wrong hands in a failure. Sometimes the approaches suggest opposite solutions. For example, if a building catches fire, fail-safe systems would unlock doors to ensure quick escape and allow firefighters inside, while fail-secure would lock doors to prevent unauthorized access to the building.
A system's being "fail-safe" means not that failure is impossible or improbable, but rather that the system's design prevents or mitigates unsafe consequences of the system's failure. That is, if and when a "fail-safe" system "fails", it is "safe" or at least no less safe than when it was operating correctly.
A fail-safe describes a device which, if or when it fails, will cause a minimum of harm.
Fail-safe may also refer to:
A safe (also called a strongbox or coffer) is a secure lockable box used for securing valuable objects against theft and/or damage from fire. A safe is usually a hollow cuboid or cylinder, with one face being removable or hinged to form a door. The body and door may be cast from metal (such as steel) or formed out of plastic through blow molding. Bank teller safes typically are secured to the counter, have a slit opening for dropping valuables into the safe without opening it, and a time-delay combination lock to foil robbers. One significant distinction between types of safes is whether the safe is secured to a wall or structure or if it can be moved around. A less secure version (only suitable for petty cash) is usually called a cash-box.
In 1835, English inventors Charles Chubb and Jeremiah Chubb in Wolverhampton, England, received a patent for a burglar-resisting safe and began a production of safes. The Chubb brothers had produced locks since 1818. Chubb Locks was an independent company until 2000 when it was sold to Assa Abloy.
Sidney Arthur Lumet (/luːˈmɛt/ loo-MET; June 25, 1924 – April 9, 2011) was an American director, producer and screenwriter with over 50 films to his credit. He was nominated for the Academy Award as Best Director for 12 Angry Men (1957), Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Network (1976) and The Verdict (1982). He did not win an individual Academy Award, but he did receive an Academy Honorary Award and 14 of his films were nominated for various Oscars, such as Network, which was nominated for ten, winning four.
The Encyclopedia of Hollywood states that Lumet was one of the most prolific filmmakers of the modern era, having directed more than one movie a year on average since his directorial debut in 1957. He was noted by Turner Classic Movies for his "strong direction of actors," "vigorous storytelling" and the "social realism" in his best work. Film critic Roger Ebert described him as having been "one of the finest craftsmen and warmest humanitarians among all film directors." Lumet was also known as an "actor's director," having worked with the best of them during his career, probably more than "any other director."Sean Connery, who acted in five of his films, considered him one of his favorite directors, and a director who had that "vision thing."
Henry Jaynes "Hank" Fonda (May 16, 1905 – August 12, 1982) was an American film and stage actor with a career spanning more than five decades.
Fonda made his mark early as a Broadway actor. He also appeared in 1938 in plays performed in White Plains, New York, with Joan Tompkins. He made his Hollywood debut in 1935, and his career gained momentum after his Academy Award-nominated performance as Tom Joad in The Grapes of Wrath, a 1940 adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel about an Oklahoma family who moved west during the Dust Bowl. Throughout six decades in Hollywood, Fonda cultivated a strong, appealing screen image in such classics as The Ox-Bow Incident, Mister Roberts and 12 Angry Men. Later, Fonda moved both toward darker epics such as Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West and lighter roles in family comedies such as Yours, Mine and Ours with Lucille Ball, winning the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 54th Academy Awards for the movie On Golden Pond, his final film role.

One of the greatest anti-war thrillers ever, FAIL-SAFE stars Henry Fonda, Walter Mathau, Dan O'Herlihy, Larry Hagman and Fritz Weaver (in his film debut) as a group of military men on the verge of World War III. When a military computer error deploys a squadron of SAC bombers to destroy Moscow, theAmerican President (Fonda) tries to call them back. But their sophisticated fail-safe system prevents him from aborting the attack, so he must convince the Soviets not to retaliate. In desperation, the President offers to sacrifice an American city if his pilots succeed in their deadly mission overMoscow. A four-star techno-thriller that builds tension and suspense with every tick of the nuclearclock. (Original Title - Fail Safe (1964)) © 1963, renewed 1991 Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. All...
This is one of my favorite moments in Sidney Lumet's 1964 Cold War thriller, FAIL-SAFE. It is the confrontation between the hawkish civilian Pentagon advisor, Prof. Groeteschele, and the thoughtful General Black. In the aftermath of the accidental dispatch of a strategic bomber squadron on a run at Moscow, the civilian argues that the U.S. must launch a first strike and attempts to justify it. Black's answer cuts to the matter at hand.
It seemed as if all was lost, when three Fishbeds showed up to save the day. This is an alternate ending to the 1964 film "Fail-Safe", where events take a happier turn than those that ultimately transpired in the movie. P.S. Sorry for the lousy voiceovers.
This is the one role that I'll always remember Dom DeLuise for. It's one of his rare dramatic roles -- a bit part in Sidney Lumet's 1964 cold war thriller, FAIL-SAFE. His anguished take as the Air Force Sergeant (Collins) ordered to give his Soviet counterparts the technical secrets toward defeating our Hustler bombers on their mistaken bomb run was something very special in a film full of great performances. It was exceptional because, for someone not formally trained, he masterfully conveyed the character's conflict with his struggled delivery of the information while in an impossibly tense situation. When his character is done and sits down, you can clearly see the suffering he'll have to live with from that moment forward. What he does with this small role was nothing short of amazing....

Ron Low - circumcised at birth in 1962 - demonstrates the application of the TLC Packer foreskin restoration device which now features a stainless loop tested for 20 pounds of tension, so the loop COULD be used for elastic or weighted tension. Note also that retaining cones are now supplied in clear silicone for better identification of situations where skin wrinkling needs to be addressed. Packing techniques are not for everyone. Extreme care is required to get a comfortable application while inducing sufficient tension, and it's very hard to know when sufficent tension exists and to reproduce that state time and again. The foreskin plays an important role in normal function. The skin that is commonly removed in circumcision is imbued with thousands of specialized nerve endings, ...
A couple of early Fail-Safe tests with my DJI. Return To home works well, but GPS is Circling on the final descent. Acceptable in place of a total loss, or crash, but not good enough to use as an end of mission RTH & Land Perhaps parameters need to be adjusted. Again, this was an early test, with the original firmware.

If you left your conscience at the door
Would you pick it up on your way out,
Or is is something that you live without?
You'll never need it. You'll never need it.
I'll discard all the things that make me want to leave;
Tell me, just what have you achieved?
An empty life for all to see,
But still you chose to make a mockery.
The only words that I could find that come to mind
Could shatter your pride,
But I can't let you know
It makes me just like you.
Mirror mirror on the wall,
Is this the place that I am proud to be from?
Just look what you've become.
Just look what you've become.
You're stuck in place that you don't belong,
You're on your own, on your own.
And full to brink yet so hollow.
Let your opinion go untold.
I feel betrayed in almost thinking
That what you're shouting at me is the truth.
What should anybody listen to you?
The ground is sinking, the ground is sinking
Under your feet.
You've voiced your opinion,
I'm sick of the sight of you.
Nobody wants to know.
Why don't you pack up your ego and go,
Before I pack it up for you, now?
The only words that I could find that come to mind
Could shatter your pride,
But I can't let you know
It makes me just like you.
