A nursery rhyme is a traditional poem or song for young children in Britain and many other countries, but usage only dates from the late 18th /early 19th century. In North America the term Mother Goose Rhymes, introduced in the mid-18th century, is still often used.

History

Lullabies

The oldest children's songs of which we have records are lullabies, intended to help a child sleep. Lullabies can be found in every human culture. The English term lullaby is thought to come from "lu, lu" or "la la" sound made by mothers or nurses to calm children, and "by by" or "bye bye", either another lulling sound, or a term for good night. Until the modern era lullabies were usually only recorded incidentally in written sources. The Roman nurses' lullaby, "Lalla, Lalla, Lalla, aut dormi, aut lacta", is recorded in a scholium on Persius and may be the oldest to survive.

Many medieval English verses associated with the birth of Jesus take the form of a lullaby, including "Lullay, my liking, my dere son, my sweting" and may be versions of contemporary lullabies. However, most of those used today date from the 17th century. For example, a well known lullaby such as "Rock-a-bye, baby on a tree top", cannot be found in records until the late-18th century when it was printed by John Newbery (c. 1765).

School Days (song)

"School Days" (also known as "School Day (Ring! Ring! Goes the Bell)") is a song written and recorded by rock and roll musician Chuck Berry, released by the Chess record label as a single in March 1957, and released on the LP After School Session two months later (see 1957 in music). It is one of his best known songs and is often considered a rock and roll anthem. It was first released as a single and later appeared as the lead track on Berry's first album, After School Session.

The last verse of the song contains the lyrics "Hail, hail rock and roll / Deliver me from the days of old." Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll became the title of a 1987 documentary and concert film about Berry. Much of the song's musical arrangement would later be reused by Berry in 1964 on "No Particular Place to Go". The same arrangement was also used on the very rare "Big Ben Blues".

Recording

The song was recorded on January 21, 1957 at Universal Recording Studios in Chicago, Illinois. The session(s) were produced by the Chess brothers – Leonard and Phil – and backing Berry on the recording were guitarist Hubert Sumlin (who is known for his work with Howlin' Wolf), bassist Willie Dixon, and drummer Fred Below.

Give Me a Reason

"Give Me a Reason" is a song by Irish pop rock group The Corrs. It was released on 12 March 2001 as the third single taken from their third studio album In Blue (2000). The song was written and produced by The Corrs. "Give Me a Reason" is a dance-pop song, and received favourable reviews from music critics. The song was a moderate success in Belgium and New Zealand (reaching the top-ten and top-twenty, respectively), while it reached the top-forty in the United Kingdom.

Background and release

"Give Me a Reason" was released as the third single from In Blue (2000) on 12 March 2001. The CD single included two versions of "Give Me a Reason" (the album version and the Cutfather & Joe Remix, which was used for the music video), a "Live Instrumental" version of "Paddy McCarthy" and a "Live" version of "Queen of Hollywood". "Give Me a Reason" was written and produced by The Corrs (Andrea, Caroline, Sharon and Jim). The dance-pop song, has Andrea on the centre speaker with the backing vocals on the other speakers. The song was included on their compilation album, "Best of The Corrs" (2001).

Bleta "Bebe" Rexha (born August 30, 1989; Albanian pronunciation: [blɛta bibi ɾɛd͡ʒa]) is an American singer and songwriter. She is best known for being featured on the singles "Take Me Home" by Cash Cash, "Hey Mama" by David Guetta and for singing "Me, Myself & I" in duet with G-Eazy. She started her career as the lead vocalist of the American band Black Cards created by Pete Wentz, and co-wrote the number-one US Billboard Hot 100 song "The Monster" by Eminem featuring Rihanna.

Early life and education

Bleta Rexha was born on August 30, 1989, in Brooklyn, New York City, to ethnic Albanian parents, who emigrated to the U.S. in the 1980s. Her father is from Debar and her mother is from Gostivar in the Republic of Macedonia. Her real name Bleta means Bumble Bee in Albanian, that's where her nickname Bebe comes from. Rexha began her approach to music at the age of 4, and continued to pursue her love for music through Tottenville High School on Staten Island, taking part in musicals such as Hello, Dolly!, Jesus Christ Superstar and Fiddler on the Roof. She was inspired by musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Tori Amos, John Legend, and The Temptations. Rexha earned the "Best Teen Songwriter" at The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences's annual New York "Grammy Day" event, that allowed her the opportunity to meet many prominent music producers.
