Bargain basement "B" science-fiction programmer from director W. Lee Wilder's Planet Filmplays, about a nuclear scientist (Peter Graves) whose jet planecrashes while collecting aerial data on an atomic blast.
After an extensive search, he is found unhurt, walking back to the air base with no memory of what happened. On his chest is a strange scar that was not there before the crash.
While under a drug influenced interrogation, he tells the story about being held captive by space aliens, who plan to exterminate humanity using giant insects and reptiles, grown with the radiation absorbed from our own atomic bomb tests!!

multichannel sound art installation by Ruben Nachtergaele
In 1913 the Italian futurist Luigi Rusolo Developed his manifesto "The Art of Noises", a composition-method based on the sounds of the industrial world. Now, 100 years later, we live in a world with an overload of audio impulses. As a musician, sound artist and family-man I am confronted daily with the multitude of sounds.
To listen to a single sound is difficult: Surrounding sound creates noise. the original message diffuses. It's not easy to create a cross-section of all those sounds and take the time to have an in-depth experience. This contradiction is the basis for my installation / format 'I hear you'. I examine how valuable a new audio-experience can be build with a superposition of sounds. But most of all I want to enrich, sharpen the listening experience to the visitor, both during and after the installation.
During the residence in VOORUIT100 "I hear you" focuses on the social commitment in and around Vooruit during the past 100 years. I develop sound databases on topics such as the origin and rise of socialism, the union struggle, the orfins of the Spanish Civil War, the "progressive relaunch" in the 80s, 'artists with a message', the 21st century Vooruit-Activism on sustainability, direct democracy, transition, ... With this footage I form a composition that balances between an overloaded multitude and the one-on-one 'solo-experience'.

Ben Welden
Ben Welden (June 12, 1901 – October 17, 1997) was an American character actor who played a wide variety of Damon Runyon-type gangsters in various movies and television shows. Born in Toledo, Ohio, Welden appeared in over 120 films between 1930 and 1966.
Short, balding and somewhat rotund, he often literally played a "heavy", frequently in a somewhat comical or slightly dim-witted way, offsetting the sinister nature of his character's actions. Among his roles in this vein was The Big Sleep.
Fans of Adventures of Superman remember him well, as he appeared in eight episodes, always as a different character and yet really the same character, in a way. His best-known Superman episode might be "Flight to the North", in which he tries (and fails) to outwit a country-bumpkin type (played by Chuck Connors).
In 1966 he acted in episodes 47 and 48 of Batman.
He was a semi-regular in the 1954-1955 CBS legal drama, The Public Defender, starring Reed Hadley as an attorney for the indigent. He appeared in a 1956 episode of The Lone Ranger entitled "Trouble at Tylerville".

Peter Graves
Peter Duesler Aurness (March 18, 1926 – March 14, 2010), known professionally as Peter Graves, was an American film and television actor. He was best known for his role as Jim Phelps in the CBS television series Mission: Impossible from 1967 to 1973 (original) and from 1988 to 1990 (revival). His elder brother was actor James Arness (1923–2011). Graves was also known for his portrayal of airplane pilot Captain Clarence Oveur in the 1980 comedy film Airplane! and its 1982 sequel Airplane II: The Sequel.
Early life
Peter Graves was born Peter Duesler Aurness on March 18, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Rolf Cirkler Aurness (1894–1982), a businessman, and his wife Ruth (née Duesler, died 1986), a journalist. Graves' ancestry was Norwegian, German, and English. The family name originally was "Aursnes," but when Rolf's Norwegian father, Peter Aursnes, immigrated to New York City in 1887, he changed the spelling. Peter used the stage name "Graves", a maternal family name, to honor his mother's family, and also so as to not be confused with his older brother, James Arness, the star of the television series Gunsmoke.

Ben Wendel
Ben Wendel is a Canadian-American jazz saxophonist, composer, bassoonist, and pianist. He is best known for being a founding member of the Grammy-nominated group Kneebody. He has also performed as a leader or sideman with artists such as Snoop Dogg, Ignacio Berroa, Daedelus, Taylor Eigsti, and Tigran Hamasyan.
Background
Ben was born in Vancouver, Canada, and raised in Santa Monica, California by a musical family. He studied at the Eastman School of Music, where he met other future members of Kneebody. After graduation, he returned to Los Angeles, where he freelanced and performed the first shows with Kneebody. Since then, he now lives in Brooklyn, New York. As a leader, he has released albums on Sunnyside Records, and has appeared on many others. He composes for film and won an ASCAP Jazz Composer Award as well a New Works grant from Chamber Music America. As a producer, he worked with Kent Nagano to produce concerts for the Festpeil Plus in Munich, Germany, and produces a new performing arts series at The Edye in Santa Monica, California. He was an adjunct professor of jazz at the University of Southern California.

In 1913 the Italian futurist Luigi Rusolo Developed his manifesto "The Art of Noises", a composition-method based on the sounds of the industrial world. Now, 100 years later, we live in a world with an overload of audio impulses. As a musician, sound artist and family-man I am confronted daily with the multitude of sounds.
To listen to a single sound is difficult: Surrounding sound creates noise. the original message diffuses. It's not easy to create a cross-section of all those sounds and take the time to have an in-depth experience. This contradiction is the basis for my installation / format 'I hear you'. I examine how valuable a new audio-experience can be build with a superposition of sounds. But most of all I want to enrich, sharpen the listening experience to the visitor, both during and after the installation.
During the residence in VOORUIT100 "I hear you" focuses on the social commitment in and around Vooruit during the past 100 years. I develop sound databases on topics such as the origin and rise of socialism, the union struggle, the orfins of the Spanish Civil War, the "progressive relaunch" in the 80s, 'artists with a message', the 21st century Vooruit-Activism on sustainability, direct democracy, transition, ... With this footage I form a composition that balances between an overloaded multitude and the one-on-one 'solo-experience'.

In 1913 the Italian futurist Luigi Rusolo Developed his manifesto "The Art of Noises", a composition-method based on the sounds of the industrial world. Now, 100 years later, we live in a world with an overload of audio impulses. As a musician, sound artist and family-man I am confronted daily with the multitude of sounds.
To listen to a single sound is difficult: Surrounding sound creates noise. the original message diffuses. It's not easy to create a cross-section of all those sounds and take the time to have an in-depth experience. This contradiction is the basis for my installation / format 'I hear you'. I examine how valuable a new audio-experience can be build with a superposition of sounds. But most of all I want to enrich, sharpen the listening experience to the visitor, both during and after the installation.
During the residence in VOORUIT100 "I hear you" focuses on the social commitment in and around Vooruit during the past 100 years. I develop sound databases on topics such as the origin and rise of socialism, the union struggle, the orfins of the Spanish Civil War, the "progressive relaunch" in the 80s, 'artists with a message', the 21st century Vooruit-Activism on sustainability, direct democracy, transition, ... With this footage I form a composition that balances between an overloaded multitude and the one-on-one 'solo-experience'.

Doris Lessing's unfinished business with 'Ben in the World'
In 2000, Ray Suarez interviewed Doris Lessing about "Ben in the World," a science fiction novel that continued the story of a young man striking out on his own path, even though he is incapable of coping with the modern world. As the sequel to her 1988 novel, "The Fifth Child," Lessing told Suarez about what made her take up Ben's story again, more than a decade after the first book. Lessing passed away on Nov. 17 in London at the age of 94.

In 2000, Ray Suarez interviewed Doris Lessing about "Ben in the World," a science fiction novel that continued the story of a young man striking out on his own path, even though he is incapable of coping with the modern world. As the sequel to her 1988 novel, "The Fifth Child," Lessing told Suarez about what made her take up Ben's story again, more than a decade after the first book.

Bargain basement "B" science-fiction programmer from director W. Lee Wilder's Planet Filmplays, about a nuclear scientist (Peter Graves) whose jet planecrashes while collecting aerial data on an atomic blast.
After an extensive search, he is found unhurt, walking back to the air base with no memory of what happened. On his chest is a strange scar that was not there before the crash.
While under a drug influenced interrogation, he tells the story about being held captive by space aliens, who plan to exterminate humanity using giant insects and reptiles, grown with the radiation absorbed from our own atomic bomb tests!!

In 1913 the Italian futurist Luigi Rusolo Developed his manifesto "The Art of Noises", a composition-method based on the sounds of the industrial world. Now, 100 years later, we live in a world with an overload of audio impulses. As a musician, sound artist and family-man I am confronted daily with the multitude of sounds.
To listen to a single sound is difficult: Surrounding sound creates noise. the original message diffuses. It's not easy to create a cross-section of all those sounds and take the time to have an in-depth experience. This contradiction is the basis for my installation / format 'I hear you'. I examine how valuable a new audio-experience can be build with a superposition of sounds. But most of all I want to enrich, sharpen the listening experience to the visitor, both during and after the installation.
During the residence in VOORUIT100 "I hear you" focuses on the social commitment in and around Vooruit during the past 100 years. I develop sound databases on topics such as the origin and rise of socialism, the union struggle, the orfins of the Spanish Civil War, the "progressive relaunch" in the 80s, 'artists with a message', the 21st century Vooruit-Activism on sustainability, direct democracy, transition, ... With this footage I form a composition that balances between an overloaded multitude and the one-on-one 'solo-experience'.
