Interference is a gathering of people, perspectives, theories, and actions that share a critical approach to society and technology. The event comes as a response to the lack of a common ground for confrontation and discussion over themes like hacking, technology, art, and politics that could break out of the existing containers and roles for such concepts and practices.

During the day, expect a wide range of talks, workshops, installations and discussions on topics like hacktivism, human-machine interfacing, cybernetics, liquid surveillance, artistic interventions, cryptocoins, anti-capitalism, and many others.

 

When night falls, OCCII will transform into a cyberpunk (dys/u)topia, filled with volatile soundscapes, DIY audio synthesis, algorithmic beats, noise, glitches, and experimental performances.

A comrade from Canainfoavond_canada_prisoner_struggle_kleinda will visit Amsterdam and she will do a short talk:

A Brief History of Prisoner Resistance and Anti-Prison Struggles in Canada.

This presentation will explain the Canadian prison system and how it works as well as talk about prisoner resistance since the 1960s and anti-prison struggles on the outside.
After the talk, there is a solidarity bar for Amelie, Carlos and Fallon. They are anarchists in Mexican prison and are in big trouble, more information will be provided on the evening.

Mark Bray is a historian and an active member of the American anarcho-syndicalist union the IWW. He was involved with the Washington Occupy Wall Street (OWS) chapter. In his book ‘Translating Anarchy’, a bundling of 200 interviews with OWS activists, he shows how a relatively small number of Occupy activists in Washington could turn the Occupy-movement there in a more radical and anti-capitalist direction without loosing support from fellow participants.

Beuh koningsdag. Volksfeest en vlooienmarkt is prachtig, maar het thema staat ons (zacht gezegd) niet zo aan. Ben je zaterdag ook moe van oranje mutsen en rood wit blauwe vaandels, stap dan in je suzuki swift en kom naar de AGA bieb, safe haven van rust op dit chaotisch dagje. Bovendien hebben we goede boeken en tostis.

Film Festival: Gentrification

8960748‘Gentrification’ is the term used to describe the arrival of wealthier people in a neighborhood, the related increase in rents and property values and the inevitable change in the culture and character of a neighborhood that comes with it.

With mounting rent prices, a decrease in social housing and a rise in police intimidation, lower-income residents are forced out of the neighborhood. This global phenomenon is visible in various stages in different area’s of Amsterdam such as; De Pijp, De Baarsjes and Amsterdam Noord.

On May 3rd, we’ll be organizing a small film festival at the Bollox, on the topic of gentrification. To come to a better understanding of the process and to talk about strategies to counter it’s destructive consequences. Continue reading →

Brieven van Sacco en Vanzetti

S & V presentatieVoor het eerst zijn alle brieven van Nicola Sacco en Bartolomeo Vanzetti, op basis van de oorspronkelijke Engelstalige uitgave uit 1928, in het Nederlands uitgegeven. De presentatie van het boek Brieven van Sacco en Vanzetti, brieven uit de gevangenis in de dodencel, vindt plaats op 25 april a.s. en wordt verzorgd door Dick Gevers, die de brieven samen met Bart Schellekens heeft vertaald. Tevens zal Dennis de Lange vertellen over Woody Guthries muzikale eerbetoon aan de twee anarchisten, Ballads of Sacco and Vanzetti (1947). Ook andere kunstenaars en muzikanten die de geschiedenis van Sacco en Vanzetti hebben gebruikt in hun werk komen kort aan bod.

Na een voor Frankrijk desastreus verlopen oorlog tegen Pruisen brak in 1871 een opstand uit die de geschiedenis zou ingaan als de Parijse Commune. Op 18 maart van dat jaar bezetten opstandige Parijzenaars de stad. 72 dagen later werden zij in bloedige barricadegevechten verpletterend verslagen. Vele duizenden werden standrechtelijk geëxecuteerd.

Amsterdam: Global Uprisings Conference 15-17 November

This is an annoucement of the Global Uprising Conference in Amsterdam the weekend from the 15th to the 17th of November. The main program will be in the Balie but below you find a list with additional programming which will start a few days ealier and will end a few days later. Hundreds of people form all over the world are expected to travel to Amsterdam in the coming weeks for this conference.

Tickets for the plenairy sessions in the Balie (that’s the last part of day’s program) are all gone. But during the weekend the discussions and presentations are still freely accessible. For the weekends progamme in De Balie check here:

De Vrije Bond zal zich als organisatie inzetten om de komende Blockupy acties in Frankfurt te ondersteunen. Een eerste inhoudelijke oriëntatie op deze acties zal plaatsvinden in het weekend van Global Uprising (15 tot 17 november 2013 in Amsterdam).
In de Bollox (Anarchistische Bieb) zal er op zaterdagmiddag 16 november 2013 een informatieronde gehouden worden over de Blockupy acties, uitleg en discussie over de achterliggende doelen van dit (deze vorm van) verzet.

Start 16.00 uur op de Eerste Schinkelstraat 14-16 te Amsterdam.
