Minsk

Minsk (Belarusian: Мінск pronounced [mʲinsk]; Russian: Минск, [mʲinsk], Polish: Mińsk) is the capital and largest city of Belarus, situated on the Svislach and Nyamiha rivers. It is the administrative centre of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). As the national capital, Minsk has a special administrative status in Belarus and is the administrative centre of Minsk Region (voblast) and Minsk raion (district). In 2013, it had a population of 2,002,600.

The earliest historical references to Minsk date to the 11th century (1067), when it was noted as a provincial city within the principality of Polotsk. The settlement developed on the rivers. In 1242, Minsk became a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It received town privileges in 1499.

From 1569, it was a capital of the Minsk Voivodship in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was part of a region annexed by the Russian Empire in 1793, as a consequence of the Second Partition of Poland. From 1919 to 1991, after the Russian Revolution, Minsk was the capital of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic within the Soviet Union.

Boeing 737 Classic

The Boeing 737 Classic is the -300/-400/-500 series of the Boeing 737, so named following the introduction of the -600/-700/-800/-900 series. They are short- to medium- range, narrow-body jet airliners produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The Classic series was introduced as the 'new generation' of the 737. Produced from 1984 to 2000, 1,988 aircraft were delivered.

Development and design

Following the success of the Boeing 737-200 Advanced, Boeing wanted to increase capacity and range, incorporating improvements to upgrade the plane to modern specifications, while also retaining commonality with previous 737 variants. Development began in 1979, and in 1980 preliminary aircraft specifications were released at the Farnborough Airshow. In March 1981, USAir and Southwest Airlines each ordered 10 aircraft, with an option for 20 more.

The new series featured CFM56 turbofan engines, yielding significant gains in fuel economy and a reduction in noise, but also posing an engineering challenge given the low ground clearance of the 737. Boeing and engine supplier CFMI solved the problem by placing the engine ahead of (rather than below) the wing, and by moving engine accessories to the sides (rather than the bottom) of the engine pod, giving the 737 a distinctive non-circular air intake.

Tupolev Tu-154

The Tupolev Tu-154 (Russian: Tyполев Ту-154; NATO reporting name: Careless) is a three-engine medium-range narrow-body airliner designed in the mid-1960s and manufactured by Tupolev. A workhorse of Soviet and (subsequently) Russian airlines for several decades, it carried half of all passengers flown by Aeroflot and its subsidiaries (137.5 million/year or 243.8 billion passenger km in 1990), remaining the standard domestic-route airliner of Russia and former Soviet states until the mid-2000s. It was exported to 17 non-Russian airlines and used as head-of-state transport by the air forces of several countries.

With a cruising speed of 975 kilometres per hour (606 mph), the Tu-154 is one of the fastest civilian aircraft in use and has a range of 5,280 kilometres (3,280 mi). Capable of operating from unpaved and gravel airfields with only basic facilities, it was widely used in the extreme Arctic conditions of Russia's northern/eastern regions where other airliners were unable to operate. Originally designed for a 45,000 hr service life (18,000 cycles) but capable of 80,000 hrs with upgrades, it is expected to continue in service until 2016, although noise regulations have restricted flights to western Europe and other regions.

On 29 May 2015, Belavia operated the last ever Tu-154 flight into Europe onboard aircraft EW-85748. I was lucky enough to secure a seat on the flight, which is normally operated by CRJ. Could she possibly know my intentions? Hmmm maybe. I mean, why would anyone ever want to go to Belarus? There’s nothing really to do or see there. Unless, like me, you are interested in a huge untapped market. Imagine a place full of tall, slender, absolutely stunning blue eyed, dark hair super-model-looking girls who have NEVER met a westerner before. This was a potential soviet gold mine. But, as I knew, most of the women would not speak a lick of English. Challenge accepted! Finally, after begging and pleading with the unpleasant embassy gestapo who stood between me and my mecca of models, I was given the visa. A sly grin crept across my face. This was going to be fun. The two cities I visited, Minsk and Vitebsk, were fairly dull in my opinion so don’t expect any amazing tourism if you choose to visit. Contrary to the stereotype of Russian’s being very cold and unfriend, my approaches were very well received. Besides my ridiculously good looks, flawless approaching skills, and obviously humble attitude, their friendliness may have been attributed to the fact that most of them had never met someone from the land of the free before. In fact, I even got approached by two girls while I was out doing approaches! They asked me if I was lost or needed any help with anything. This has NEVER happened to me anywhere else in the entire world! While on my week long stay in Belarus I went on multiple dates with 3 different girls, all of which were complete knockouts. I definitely plan on returning again this Summer after I acquire a visa to Russia (Russia and Belarus have no border patrol). Nach den beiden ersten Singles „Beim ersten Mal tut´s immer weh und „Labyrinth, die OOMPH! von ihrer bekannten Seite als treffsichere Elektro-Rocker zeigen, offenbart das Trio mit „Auf Kurs nicht nur eine neue Auskopplung aus ihrem Top Ten Album „Monster sondern auch eine andere, völlig neue Seite von sich. Diese ist nicht nur außergewöhnlich, weil es sich um eine Ballade handelt, sondern auch und vor allem wegen der Instrumentierung. Statt verzerrten Gitarren und Synthesizern dominieren bei diesem unter die Haut gehenden Epos Piano und Streicher, die allein schon wegen ihrer natürlichen Klangfarbe Deros Stimme in einen ganz anderen Kontext setzen, in dem der Sänger mehr denn je brilliert. Dazu schrieb er eine metaphorische Liebeserklärung, die ohne jeden Kitsch auskommt. Bei dem kunstvollen Orchester-Arrangement half übrigens Chris Wolff, der u.a. bereits mit Within Temptation und Rage/Lingua Mortis große Erfolge feiern konnte. OOMPH! haben mit diesem wunderbaren Song zur Abwechslung mal eine andere Richtung eingeschlagen, mit der sie ebenfalls voll „Auf Kurs sind!
