Urinals – Sex 7″

How surprised I was when I found this in the posting queue. It’s been lingering for like 5 years. You know the Urinals. If not you should. Classic punk rock out of Cali/USA. Yeah people scream art punk too. I get that. Anyway both tracks are great and I wonder what’s on that little super 8mm strip taped on side A.

The Buzz – Insanity E.P. 7″

Time for the Buzzcocks again! No, wait! This ain’t the Buzzcocks, it’s just the Buzz! Well, I’m glad they’re as catchy as those bastards who stole the first part of these guys band name. Sick at heart, one hell of a song! It gets me buzzing all over! Sort of semi-sloppydruming, loud plunky bass, super catchy chorus, lots of sweet TVP sounding Ooooh’s, neat and simple guitar line and a great singer who’s got something to tell us all.
Him not me, not as direct perhaps, but a damn fine track with one foot in the magic DIY swamp and one is the classic sounding school of 77.
Insanity is a great track by all standards, and again with some fine singalong parts.
All in all this is one hell of a great debut. I still don’t have the band’s LP from 81, but someday I’ll have to pick it up although it’s not exactly in the same style.

This EP was reissued by Sing Sing a few years back by the way.

Guilty Razors – I Don’t Wanna Be Rich E.P. 7″

Just like their compatriots in Dogs, these boys choose to put the title track of the EP on the B side. And just like the Dogs debut, this is yet another French classic. And unlike Coldcock these guys didn’t want to be rich. Somehow it all makes perfect sense.

I think something like 99% of all copies of this record came as promos with either (or both) stamped sleeve and a cut-off corner.

Terrorways / Proud Scum- Split 7″

Here’s a Kiwi ripper for all you boys and girls, and maybe this and Peter’s recent post of Metal Urbain might be the restart of this site again as we’ve been less than frequent with updates the last year(s?). At least I know that I have a few 7inches ripped and ready to go. I know jackshit about these two bands and it wasn’t until today that I realized that Suicide 2 is a monster of a tune, just like Short-haired rock and roll. I’ve been too occupied with spinning the simple rock n’ roll of Terrorways to see that the flip might actually be even better. Perhaps not as direct, but damn that’s some strong song writing, and after playing it 5 times in a row now it carved it’s way into my brain.
