Bass Rock

The Bass Rock, or simply the Bass,/ˈbæs/, is an island in the outer part of the Firth of Forth in the east of Scotland. Approximately 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) offshore, and 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) north-east of North Berwick, it is a steep-sided volcanic rock, 107 metres (351 ft) at its highest point, and is home to a large colony of gannets. The rock is currently uninhabited, but historically has been settled by an early Christian hermit, and later was the site of an important castle, which after the Commonwealth period was used as a prison. The island is in the ownership of Sir Hew Hamilton-Dalrymple, whose family acquired it in 1706, and before that belonged to the Lauder family for almost six centuries. The Bass Rock Lighthouse was constructed on the rock in 1902, and the remains of an ancient chapel survive.

The Bass Rock features in many works of fiction, including Robert Louis Stevenson's Catriona and The Lion is Rampant by the Scottish novelist Ross Laidlaw.

Meghan Trainor

Meghan Elizabeth Trainor (born December 22, 1993) is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. Born and raised in Nantucket, Massachusetts, Trainor wrote, recorded, performed and produced three independently-released albums between ages 15 and 17. In 2011, she signed a publishing deal with Big Yellow Dog Music, and pursued a career in songwriting.

After signing a record deal with Epic Records in 2014, Trainor rose to fame with the release of major-label debut studio album, Title (2015). The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and produced four top 20 singles: "All About That Bass", "Lips Are Movin", "Dear Future Husband", and "Like I'm Gonna Lose You". Later certified platinum by the RIAA, the record passed one million sales domestically.

Prominently influenced by the 1950s and 1960s eras in music, Trainor's music has been noted for its retro style aesthetic. Common themes in her lyrics include subjects of modern womanhood, body image, and empowerment. Trainor's work has been recognized with several awards and nominations, including the Music Business Association's Breakthrough Artist of the Year accolade and two Billboard Music Awards.

All About That Bass

"All About That Bass" is the debut single by American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor. Released by Epic Records on June 30, 2014, it was recorded for her 2014 debut EP and her 2015 studio album, both named Title. Trainor co-wrote "All About That Bass" with its producer Kevin Kadish; it is a bubblegum pop and doo-wop song that draws influences from various musical genres including R&B, hip hop and country. Lyrically, it discusses positive body image.

"All About That Bass" received favorable reviews from music critics for its melody and vintage sound, though some accused Trainor of anti-feminism for its lyrics. It was named one of the best songs of 2014 by several publications and received Grammy Award nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The song sold 11 million copies worldwide, becoming the fourth best-selling song of 2014 and one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Fatima Robinson directed the song's accompanying music video, a viral online success that was noted for its visuals and lighthearted nature. About That

About That (Про это) is a poem by Vladimir Mayakovsky written during the self-imposed two-months "exile" after a row with Lilya Brik. It was finished on 11 February 1923 and published on 29 March 1923, originally by the LEF magazine. The poem's first separate edition was illustrated by Alexander Rodchenko who in his montages used photographs made by Mayakovsky and Lilya Brik.

History

In summer 1922 Lilya Brik fell in love with Alexander Krasnoshchyokov, the then head of the newly formed Prombank. Mayakovsky was outraged, a quarrel ensued and the terms of the two-month separation have been agreed between the two. As a result, the poet departed to his 'boat-room' at the Lybyansky Lane, 3/6, "banned" from visiting the Briks at their Vodopyany Lane home. There, working for 16-20 hours a day, he wrote About That. On 11 February it was finished. "That was arguably my best poem in terms of the editorial work done upon it," he later wrote in a preface to the compilation This Year's Things.
