Somalia (/səˈmɑːliə, soʊ-, -ljə/so-MAH-lee-ə; Somali: Soomaaliya; Arabic: الصومال aṣ-Ṣūmāl), officially the Federal Republic of Somalia (Somali: Jamhuuriyadda Federaalka Soomaaliya, Arabic: جمهورية الصومال الفدرالية Jumhūrīyat aṣ-Ṣūmāl al-Fidirālīyah), is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the northwest, the Gulf of Aden to the north, the Indian Ocean to the east, and Kenya to the southwest. Somalia has the longest coastline on the continent's mainland, and its terrain consists mainly of plateaus, plains and highlands. Climatically, hot conditions prevail year-round, with periodic monsoon winds and irregular rainfall.
Somalia has a population of around 10.8 million. Around 85% of its residents are ethnic Somalis, who have historically inhabited the northern part of the country. Ethnic minorities are largely concentrated in the southern regions. The official languages of Somalia are Somali and Arabic, both of which belong to the Afroasiatic family. Most people in the country are Muslim, with the majority being Sunni.
Actors: Jaiden Kaine (actor), Daniel Genalo (actor), Ann Marie Bryan (producer), Ann Marie Bryan (writer), Ann Marie Bryan (director), Ann Marie Bryan (editor), James Lyones (actor), Alex Bordino (editor), Taina Elena (actor), Joshua Weigand (actor), Alexandra Manzano (actress), Jayanta Pathak (composer), Amy Guzman (miscellaneous crew), Regina Daniels (actress), Amy Guzman (actress),
Plot: Set in NYC, Carefree Somalia (Sylvie Marc-Charles) seemed pretty content with life: Got a good-looking boyfriend, Zavier (Omar Jaslin) for a musician, is in school to become a fashion designer, got her own place, is extrovert, likes to hit up the clubs just to feel the music, and has her own circle of friends who accepts her for who she is. A recurring complication soon becomes an issue between Somalia and her boyfriend that bifurcate their relationship. Her relationship with Zavier is put to the test when every personal experience becomes communal. DIRECTOR'S NOTE The film underscores the integration of the relationship between the hearing and the Deaf communities as well as other cultures. We believe in integration and interaction that places strong emphasis in addressing communication barriers and toppling them. There are issues we would like to address for the lack of representation, inappropriate exploitations, and negative stereotyping and ineffective exposure.

About 10 years ago, in November 2006, Al Jazeera English was launched. To mark that anniversary, we've created REWIND, which updates some of the channel's most memorable and award-winning documentaries of the past decade. We find out what happened to some of the characters in those films and ask how the stories have developed in the years since our cameras left. In 2011, the worst drought in 60 years threw some 13 million people across the Horn of Africa into crisis. In Somalia, ravaged by two decades of conflict, the consequences were disastrous. Hundreds of thousands starved to death, many of them children. In the midst of this human catastrophe Fault Lines travelled to Mogadishu to meet refugees who had fled to the most war-ravaged city in the world to escape an even worse fate, and t...

A key innovation since the 2011 famine in Somalia is the growing use of cash assistance programs for people affected by current drought-induced crisis. The mobile money transfers enhance accountability, sidestep security challenges and enable recipients, many of whom are displaced, to get help no matter where they go. United Nations, New York, 16 July 2009 Donor assistance is urgently needed as the health situation in southern and central Somalia, including its violence-wracked capital, Mogadishu, continues to deteriorate, the United Nations humanitarian arm said today. 4 April 2017 – Depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. According to the latest estimates from WHO, more than 300 million people are now living with depression, an increase of more than 18% between 2005 and 2015. Lack of support for people with mental disorders, coupled with a fear of stigma, prevent many from accessing the treatment they need to live healthy, productive lives.

To provide access to essential health services to the thousands of Somalis in need, especially women, children and internally displaced people, various health partners run mobile clinics with the support of WHO. Mobile clinics are used as a last resort with the aim of providing health services to population groups which have no access to a health-care facility. They have been considered as a short term intervention strategy, pending the reopening of fixed health facilities or access to such facilities.About two thirds of all patients seen by a mobile clinic team are children under the age of five. One of them is Mustafa.

This segment opens with a look at Gen. Wesley Clark’s revelation in 2007 that the U.S. had long planned on toppling of seven governments: “Iraq, and then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and finishing off, Iran.” A brief process tracing of U.S. military adventurism in Somalia begins in the late summer/early fall of 2016 and ends with an April article in Foreign Policy. The Election of Donald Trump and the appointment of former ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State are considered. It has recently been discovered that Somalia has oil reserves in the Indian Ocean off its coast. U.S. military advisors have secretly operated in Somalia since around 2007 and Washington plans to deepen its security assistance to help the country fend off threats by Islamist militant group al Shabaab, U.S. officials said. The comments are the first detailed public acknowledgement of a U.S. military presence in Somalia dating back since the U.S. administration of George W. Bush and add to other signs of a deepening U.S. commitment to Somalia's government, which the Obama administration recognized last year. The deployments, consisting of up to 120 troops on the ground, go beyond the Pentagon's January announcement that it had sent a handful of advisors in October. That was seen at the time as the first assignment of U.S. troops to Somalia since 1993 when two U.S. helicopters were sh...

Somalia lacks a competent income tax system to generate tax revenue for the state. The bulk of financing for the federal budget comes from foreign aid and donations, but the government does collect some taxes from its seaport, and to a lesser extent, the airport. Over the years, port authorities have been improving the Mogadishu port. With the details on whether or not these efforts have paid off, CCTV's Mohammed Hirmoge reports

While there, you’ll witness several active emerald mines. Some are very small-scale and operated by local people, while some, like the MIKU and the KAGEM mines, are very large. After British occupation of Aden in 1839, the Somali coast became its source of food. The French established a coal-mining station in 1862 at the site of Djibouti, and the Italians planted a settlement in Eritrea. Egypt, which for a time claimed Turkish rights in the area, was succeeded by Britain. By 1920, a British and an Italian protectorate occupied what is now Somalia. The British ruled the entire area after 1941, with Italy returning in 1950 to serve as United Nations trustee for its former territory. By 1960, Britain and Italy granted independence to their respective sectors, enabling the two to join as the Republic of Somalia on July 1, 1960. Somalia broke diplomatic relations with Britain in 1963 when the British granted the Somali-populated Northern Frontier District of Kenya to...

Regardless of the reasons, the one thing all of these places have in common is that most western governments do not advise travel to them unless it is absolutely necessary. The people of Somaliland have been fighting for international recognition ever since the civil war and declaration of independence in 1991. With deserted beaches, 5000 year old cave paintings and a tiny capital city full of warm friendly people, Somaliland is a extremely unique side of Africa, that is so far empty of tourists, yet full of adventure and potential!

I don't know why I feel this way today
The sky is blue the table is laid
The trees are heavy with yellow fruit
And in their shade children happily play
The pears have fallen to the ground
My child places one in my hand
The sun is warm upon my face
And I dream of a burning land
Mother of famine take this pear
Upon an arrow through the rings of time
This small fruit this golden prayer
May it pass from this hand to thine
If I were rain I'd rain on somalia
If I were grain for somalia I'd grow
If I were bread I would rise for somalia
If I were a river for somalia I'd flow
All the mothers will dream of thee
All the mothers bless thy empty hand
All the mothers will grieve for thee
All the sorrow a mother can stand
If we were rain we would rain on somalia
If we were grain for somalia we'd grow
If we were bread we would rise for somalia
