How to Love

"How to Love" is a song by American rapper and occasional singer Lil Wayne, released as the third single from his ninth studio album, Tha Carter IV. The song features production from LaMar and LaNelle Seymour p/k/a Drum Up with Noel "Detail" Fisher and was released as a digital download on June 13, 2011. It was later released to urban contemporary radio stations on June 24, 2011. The song also makes it his first entry on hot adult contemporary stations, as CJFM-FM Montreal began playing it a month later after the single's release. It peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his third highest peak on the chart as the primary artist. Lil Wayne performed the song at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

Content and composition

The song features a slow, "stripped down" production from LaMar and LaNelle Seymour a/k/a Drum Up with Noel "Detail" Fisher based largely around the sounds of an acoustic guitar and drums. Wayne has said the song is about women who "don't know how to love because there's deep reasons for them not knowing how to love...And what I mean by deep reasons is deep and dark reasons." Furthermore, Wayne stated regarding the track that "A lot of people don't open up that can and I figured that I can open up that can of worms and see what happens."

Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. (born September 27, 1982), better known by his stage name Lil Wayne, is an American hip hop recording artist from New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1991, at the age of nine, Lil Wayne joined Cash Money Records as the youngest member of the label, and half of the duo The B.G.'z, alongside fellow New Orleans-based rapper Lil' Doogie. In 1996, Lil Wayne formed the southern hip hop group Hot Boys, with his Cash Money label-mates Juvenile, Young Turk and Lil' Doogie (who now goes by B.G.). Hot Boys debuted with Get It How U Live!, that same year. Most of the group's success came with their platinum-selling album Guerrilla Warfare (1999) and the 1999 single "Bling Bling". Cash Cash is an American electronic dance music group from Roseland, New Jersey.

The group consists of the brothers Jean Paul Makhlouf and Alex Makhlouf, along with Samuel Frisch. They produce, record, mix and master all their music together as a trio. They are currently signed to Big Beat / Atlantic Records, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group worldwide. The group's highest charting song to date is "Take Me Home", which features vocals by Bebe Rexha. Their song "Lightning" was the following single released and features vocals from John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls. "Surrender" was the third single released since the group signed with their new label. An animated lyric video for the song was premiered in Times Square by Shazam and officially released on October 6, 2014.
