Whilst it was originally released as a part of "Georgy Sviridov: Hymns and Prayers", it can also be found on the more easily attainable compilation "Sacred Treasures V: From a Russian Cathedral".

Church services have taken place across Russia to mark Orthodox Christmas.
More than 6,000 people gathered to see Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia lead the service at Christ the Savior Cathedral in the Russian capital.
The liturgy was attended by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his wife. Medvedev and Patriarch Kirill exchanged holiday greetings at the altar.

يحتفل المسيحيون الأرثوذكس الروس ليلة الاحد 6 يناير/كانون الثاني بعيد ميلاد السيد المسيح عليه السلام. وقد توجه أكثر من مليون من سكان العاصمة موسكو إلى الكنائس لأداء صلاة العيد.
وترأس كيريل بطريرك موسكو وسائر روسيا القداس الرئيسي الذي قد بدأ بكنيسة المسيح المخلص بالعاصمة الروسية موسكو، حيث أدى الصلاة هناك نحو 5 آلاف من المؤمنين الروس. كما قامت الصلوات بجميع الكنائس الارثوذكسية في كافة انحاء روسيا.

В честь Православного Рождества по всей России прошли рождественские службы.
В Москве более 6000 человек пришли на службу в храм Христа Спасителя, которую провел патриарх Московский и всея Руси Кирилл.
На службе присутствовал премьер-министр России Дмитрий Медведев с супругой. Премьер и патриарх обменялись поздравлениями у алтаря.

In an effort to better train church musicians, representatives from most major musical programs and seminaries in ROCOR and the OCA gathered together at the end of 2013 to form the Patriarch Tikhon Russian-American Music Institute (PaTRAM). The work of the newly formed institute was blessed by the Primates of the Orthodox Church in America and the Russian Church Abroad. Building on the work that has been done by music educators in the past, PaTRAM strives to provide continuity through its progressive training programs at every level of Church musical development in both English and Slavonic.
PaTRAM has also partnered with the Media Office of the Eastern American Diocese of ROCOR to produce a documentary about the work and goals of the institute. The 25-minute film, entitled "Uniting Musical Excellence with Orthodox Worship," gives an overview of the important role of music in the life of the Orthodox Church and explains how PaTRAM is embarking on an endeavor that could potentially revolutionize the way that the Orthodox conductors and singers receive their musical training in North America.

The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC; Russian: Ру́сская правосла́вная це́рковь, tr. Rússkaya Pravoslávnaya Tsérkov), alternatively legally known as the Moscow Patriarchate (Russian: Моско́вский Патриарха́т, tr. Moskóvskiy Patriarkhát), is one of the autocephalous Eastern Orthodox churches, in full communion with other Eastern Orthodox patriarchates. The Primate of the ROC is the Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus'. The ROC, as well as the primate thereof, officially ranks fifth in the Orthodox order of precedence, immediately below the four ancient Patriarchates of the Greek Orthodox Church, those of Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem. The official Christianization of Kievan Rus' widely seen as the birth of the ROC is believed to have occurred in 988 through the baptism of the Kievan prince Vladimir and his people by the clergy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate whose constituent part the ROC remained for the next six centuries, while the Kievan see remained in the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate until 1686.

Eastern Orthodox Church
The Eastern Orthodox Church, officially the Orthodox Catholic Church, also referred to as the Orthodox Church, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Orthodoxy, is the second largest Christian Church in the world, with an estimated 225–300 million adherents.
The Eastern Orthodox Church is one of the oldest religious institutions in the world, teaching that it is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church established by Jesus Christ in his Great Commission to the apostles, and practicing what it understands to be the original faith passed down from the Apostles.
United in communion with the Latin Church before the East–West Schism in 1054, and with the Oriental churches for the first quarter of its history, Eastern Orthodoxy spread throughout the Roman and later Byzantine Empires and beyond, playing a prominent role in European, Near Eastern, Slavic, and some African cultures. Its most prominent episcopal see is Constantinople.
Eastern Orthodoxy has no Papacy or similar authority, but instead teaches that all bishops are equal by virtue of their ordination, and each autocephalous church is typically governed by a Holy Synod. This is one of the main reasons for the division between the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. The commonly-used but unofficial designation "Eastern" derives from the geographical location of the main centers of Orthodoxy in relation to the "Western" churches (now known as the Roman Catholic Church), and from Constantinople being the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire.

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow
Kirill or Cyril (Russian: Кирилл, secular name Vladimir Mikhailovich Gundyayev, Russian: Владимир Михайлович Гундяев; born 20 November 1946) is a Russian Orthodox bishop. He became Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus' and Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church on 1 February 2009.
Prior to becoming Patriarch, Kirill was Archbishop (later Metropolitan) of Smolensk and Kaliningrad beginning on 26 December 1984; and also Chairman of the Russian Orthodox Church's Department for External Church Relations and a permanent member of the Holy Synod beginning in 1989.
Early life
Family
Kirill was born in Leningrad (present day Saint Petersburg) on 20 November 1946. His father, Rev. Mikhail Gundyaev, died in 1974. His mother, Raisa Gundyaeva, a teacher of German, died in 1984. His elder brother, Archpriest Nikolay Gundyaev, is a professor at Leningrad Theological Academy and rector of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in St. Petersburg. His grandfather, Rev. Vasily Gundyaev, a Solovki prisoner, was imprisoned and exiled in the '20s, '30s and '40s for his church activity and struggle against Renovationism.

Church services have taken place across Russia to mark Orthodox Christmas.
More than 6,000 people gathered to see Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia lead the service at Christ the Savior Cathedral in the Russian capital.
The liturgy was attended by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his wife. Medvedev and Patriarch Kirill exchanged holiday greetings at the altar.

يحتفل المسيحيون الأرثوذكس الروس ليلة الاحد 6 يناير/كانون الثاني بعيد ميلاد السيد المسيح عليه السلام. وقد توجه أكثر من مليون من سكان العاصمة موسكو إلى الكنائس لأداء صلاة العيد.
وترأس كيريل بطريرك موسكو وسائر روسيا القداس الرئيسي الذي قد بدأ بكنيسة المسيح المخلص بالعاصمة الروسية موسكو، حيث أدى الصلاة هناك نحو 5 آلاف من المؤمنين الروس. كما قامت الصلوات بجميع الكنائس الارثوذكسية في كافة انحاء روسيا.
استمر القداس حتى الساعة الثانية بعد منتصف الليل حسب توقيت موسكو. وحضر القداس بكنيسة المسيح المخلص رئيس الوزراء الروسي دميتري مدفيديف الذي سبق ان هنأ المؤمنين بحلول العيد عبر صفحته الرسمية على موقع "تويتر" للتواصل الاجتماعي.

In an effort to better train church musicians, representatives from most major musical programs and seminaries in ROCOR and the OCA gathered together at the end of 2013 to form the Patriarch Tikhon Russian-American Music Institute (PaTRAM). The work of the newly formed institute was blessed by the Primates of the Orthodox Church in America and the Russian Church Abroad. Building on the work that has been done by music educators in the past, PaTRAM strives to provide continuity through its progressive training programs at every level of Church musical development in both English and Slavonic.
PaTRAM has also partnered with the Media Office of the Eastern American Diocese of ROCOR to produce a documentary about the work and goals of the institute. The 25-minute film, entitled "Uniting Musical Excellence with Orthodox Worship," gives an overview of the important role of music in the life of the Orthodox Church and explains how PaTRAM is embarking on an endeavor that could potentially revolutionize the way that the Orthodox conductors and singers receive their musical training in North America.

Take a tour of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. Golden Ring is a set of ancient Russian cities north-east of Moscow which form a circle if you look at them on the map. In this video I would like to tell you about the golden Ring of Russia. I think that many of you have heard this name, but not many people know what it means. And some practical info for tourists:)
To get to Sergiev Posad by train: Trains start almost every 30 minutes from Moscow's Yaroslavskiy Rail Terminal (Ярославский вокзал) to Sergiev Posad. Yaroslavskiy Rail Terminal is near metro station "Komsomolskaya" (Комсомольская) (red line).

A one-way ticket to Sergiev Posad is 164 rubles.
If to go by bus - Bus 388 is available at VDNKh (ВДНХ) every 15 minutes. However, be aware of jams:)
To get to Sergiev Posad by car take Yaroslavskoye highway - distance is 70km (40 miles).
Golden Ring is a set of ancient Russian cities north-east of Moscow which form a circle if you look at them on the map. The author of the term "Golden Ring" is Yuri Bychkov. He was a soviet journalist and a writer. And the idea of the circular route belongs to him. In the middle of the last century (to be more particular in 1967) he published in the newspaper "Soviet Culture" a few articles on the ancient cities under the general heading of "Golden Ring". Later this name was given to the now world-famous tourist route.
The 'classical' route starts from Moscow goes through Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, Rostov Velikiy, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Suzdal and Vladimir. All the cities and towns are located relatively close to each other, so from one place you can reach to another and make a circle. So you start from Moscow and come back to Moscow.
Moscow and St Petersburg are, of course, the main attractions in Russia, but if you really want to see a true Russian life and how the most of country lives, make an effort to travel to at least couple of the cities in the Golden Ring. You can see old architecture and churches which were built prior to Mongol rule.
If you only have 1 day off, then I suggest you go to Sergiev Posad. If you have a few free days then I would recommend you to go to Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, Vladimir, and Suzdal'

In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

المسيحيون الأرثوذكس في روسيا يحتفلون بعيد ميلاد المسيح
يحتفل المسيحيون الأرثوذكس الروس ليلة الاحد 6 يناير/كانون الثاني بعيد ميلاد السيد المسيح عليه السلام. وقد توجه أكثر من مليون من سكان العاصمة موسكو إلى الكنائس لأداء صلاة العيد.
وترأس كيريل بطريرك موسكو وسائر روسيا القداس الرئيسي الذي قد بدأ بكنيسة المسيح المخلص بالعاصمة الروسية موسكو، حيث أدى الصلاة هناك نحو 5 آلاف من المؤمنين الروس. كما قامت الصلوات بجميع الكنائس الارثوذكسية في كافة انحاء روسيا.
استمر القداس حتى الساعة الثانية بعد منتصف الليل حسب توقيت موسكو. وحضر القداس بكنيسة المسيح المخلص رئيس الوزراء الروسي دميتري مدفيديف الذي سبق ان هنأ المؤمنين بحلول العيد عبر صفحته الرسمية على موقع "تويتر" للتواصل الاجتماعي.

Church services have taken place across Russia to mark Orthodox Christmas.
More than 6,000 people gathered to see Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia lead the service at Christ the Savior Cathedral in the Russian capital.
The liturgy was attended by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his wife. Medvedev and Patriarch Kirill exchanged holiday greetings at the altar.

Servicios de la Iglesia han tenido lugar en toda Rusia para conmemorar la Navidad ortodoxa.
Más de 6.000 personas se reunieron para ver a Patriarca de Moscú y de todas las Rusias, la cabeza de la Iglesia ortodoxa rusa, Cirilo, llevando el servicio en la Catedral de Cristo Salvador en la capital rusa.

In an effort to better train church musicians, representatives from most major musical programs and seminaries in ROCOR and the OCA gathered together at the end of 2013 to form the Patriarch Tikhon Russian-American Music Institute (PaTRAM). The work of the newly formed institute was blessed by the Primates of the Orthodox Church in America and the Russian Church Abroad. Building on the work that has been done by music educators in the past, PaTRAM strives to provide continuity through its progressive training programs at every level of Church musical development in both English and Slavonic.
PaTRAM has also partnered with the Media Office of the Eastern American Diocese of ROCOR to produce a documentary about the work and goals of the institute. The 25-minute film, entitled "Uniting Musical Excellence with Orthodox Worship," gives an overview of the important role of music in the life of the Orthodox Church and explains how PaTRAM is embarking on an endeavor that could potentially revolutionize the way that the Orthodox conductors and singers receive their musical training in North America.

In October 2013, with the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, Archpriest Artemy Vladimirov, spiritual father of Alexeevsky Monastery in Krasnoe Selo, Moscow, performed his fourth pilgrimage to the parishes and monasteries of the Russian Church in the United States. Fr. Artemy is well known throughout Russia for his homilies, lectures, and many spiritual books and poems.
The Media Office of the Eastern American Diocese accompanied Fr. Artemy on his pilgrimage, and has produced a film about his impressions of life in the Russian Church Abroad in America. In this unique film, whose primary target audience is people living in Russia, Fr. Artemy describes what life is like in parishes and monasteries here in America. The film takes the viewer on a journey from the mountains of upstate New York, where ROCOR's oldest monastery of the Holy Trinity is located, to the hills of West Virginia, where American-born converts are flocking to Holy Cross Monastery to fulfill a life of prayer and service to God and the Church.
In the film, Fr Artemy also shares his impressions of St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Washington, DC, the hierarchy and clergy of the Russian Diaspora, and the wonderworking icons that bless and protect ROCOR's flock.

The work of the newly formed institute was blessed by the Primates of the Orthodox Church in America and the Russian Church Abroad. Building on the work that has been done by music educators in the past, PaTRAM strives to provide continuity through its progressive training programs at every level of Church musical development in both English and Slavonic.
PaTRAM has also partnered with the Media Office of the Eastern American Diocese of ROCOR to produce a documentary about the work and goals of the institute. The 25-minute film, entitled "Uniting Musical Excellence with Orthodox Worship," gives an overview of the important role of music in the life of the Orthodox Church and explains how PaTRAM is embarking on an endeavor that could potentially revolutionize the way that the Orthodox conductors and singers receive their musical training in North America.
