The Blue is a market place in Bermondsey, London.
The Blue may also refer to:
Violator is the seventh studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 19 March 1990 by Mute Records.
Preceded by the hit singles "Personal Jesus" and "Enjoy the Silence" (a top-10 hit in both the UK and US), Violator propelled the band into international stardom. The album yielded two further hit singles, "Policy of Truth" and "World in My Eyes". Violator is the band's first album to reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200, peaking at number seven. It was supported by the World Violation Tour.
Compared to previous efforts, the band decided to try a new approach to recording. Alan Wilder said, "Usually we begin the making of a record by having extensive pre-production meetings where we decide what the record will actually sound like, then go into a programming studio. This time we decided to keep all pre-production work to a minimum. We were beginning to have a problem with boredom in that we felt we'd reached a certain level of achievement in doing things a certain way." Martin Gore elaborated, "Over the last five years I think we'd perfected a formula; my demos, a month in a programming studio, etc. etc. We decided that our first record of the '90s ought to be different."
The Blue is a central market place in Bermondsey an area in London. The market is open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 5pm and has about 10 stall holders, selling food and clothes. The area has been known as The Blue for more than two hundred and thirty years and is probably named after the original Blue Anchor public house that gave its name to Blue Anchor Lane. The market has capacity for 24 stalls.
Immediately north of Blue Anchor Lane on an arched viaduct are the multiple railway tracks of the Brighton and South East Main Lines. The Blue Anchor Lane joins St. James's Road where the viaduct arches to the immediate north west contain the remnants of the disused Spa Road railway station which was the original terminus of London's first railway.
In 2005 a Metropolitan Police report described the area as a crime hotspot for "race crime and youth disorder". In 2009 during the funeral procession of Jade Goody a white dove was released at The Blue, where her family once had a stall.
"Miss Susie had a steamboat", also known as "Hello Operator", "Miss Suzy", and many other names, is the name of an American schoolyard rhyme in which each verse leads up to a rude word or profanity which is revealed in the next verse as part of an innocuous word or phrase. Originally used as a jump-rope rhyme, it is now more often sung alone or as part of a clapping game. Hand signs sometimes accompany the song, such as pulling on the bell in the first verse or making a phone gesture in the second.
This song is sometimes combined or confused with "Miss Lucy had a baby", which is sung to the same tune and also served as a jump-rope song. That song developed from verses of much older (and cruder) songs which were most commonly known as "Bang Bang Rosie" in Britain, "Bang Away Lulu" in Appalachia, and "My Lula Gal" in the West. The variants including a woman with an alligator purse urging the baby's mother to vote have been seen as a reference to Susan B. Anthony, an American suffragette, and may be responsible for the steamboat owner's most common name today.
The devil (from Greek: διάβολος or diábolos = slanderer or accuser) is believed in many religions, myths and cultures to be a supernatural entity that is the personification of evil and the archenemy of God and humankind. The nature of the role varies greatly, ranging from being an effective opposite force to the creator god, locked in an eons long struggle for human souls on what may seem even terms (to the point of dualistic ditheism/bitheism), to being a comical figure of fun or an abstract aspect of the individual human condition.
While mainstream Judaism contains no overt concept of a devil, Christianity and Islam have variously regarded the devil as a rebellious fallen angel or jinn that tempts humans to sin, if not committing evil deeds himself. In these religions – particularly during periods of division or external threat – the devil has assumed more of a dualistic status commonly associated with heretics, infidels, and other unbelievers. As such, the devil is seen as an allegory that represents a crisis of faith, individualism, free will, wisdom and enlightenment.
Performed by Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels featuring Barry Goldberg on Piano. Recorded in New York, 1966

Gonna sock it to me now. "Devil with a Blue Dress On" (aka "Devil with The Blue Dress On") was written by Frederick "Shorty" Long and William "Mickey" Stevenson in 1964. Shortly Long recorded it on the Motown label in 1964, but it was not commercially successful. The version by Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels made it an up-tempo medley combined with Little Richard's song "Good Golly Miss Molly." It was produced by the prolific Bob Crewe. Their cover rose to #4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. Mitch Ryder, from Hamtramck Michigan, is known for his rough singing style and charismatic stage performances. The Detroit Wheels, not surprisingly, were from Detroit, Michigan, and were the backup band for Ryder from 1964-1967. Members of The Detroit Wheels changed over time, but the group ...

Can you wear the blue dress
Tonight, please?
Can you wear the perfume I like
Tonight, please?
And will you laugh at all my jokes
Tonight, please?
And when the restaurant catches fire
Ill carry you through the smoke
All this to say
My audience is waiting
All this to say
Youre not real and were not dating
Can we stroll hand in hand
Down the avenue?
Ill make the moon give off
The light that looks good on you
And if it rains please dont get scared
Ill wrap us up in my coat
And well be safe in there
Youre not real, youre not supposed to be
Now Im supposedly ridding myself
