Farpoint

Farpoint Observatory is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by Northeast Kansas Amateur Astronomers' League, or NEKAAL. It is located 21 miles (34 km) southwest of Topeka, Kansas, USA, near Auburn, Kansas, on the grounds of Mission Valley High School.

Farpoint Observatory is International Astronomical Union (IAU) observatory code 734, and is home to the Farpoint Asteroid Search Team (FAST), which has an international reputation having discovered more than 330 non-NEO (Near Earth Orbit) asteroids in addition to many in NEO orbits. As of January 1, 2014, Farpoint observers had contributed more than 22,000 minor planet observations to the IAU Minor Planet Center.

NEKAAL received a $56,060 grant from NASA's Near Earth Objects (NEO) tracking program to acquire and install at Farpoint the Pitt telescope from Lindley Hall, University of Kansas. After full refurbishment, the telescope now measures 27 inches in aperture (primary mirror diameter), 9 feet 3 inches in length, with weight of 1,600 pounds (725 kg).

PlayStation VR

PlayStation VR, previously known by the codename Project Morpheus, is an upcoming virtual reality head-mounted display produced by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is designed to be fully functional with the PlayStation 4 video game system. It is currently a prototype and has no confirmed release date, although Sony has scheduled its launch for the first half of 2016.

The prototype revealed at GDC'15 included an OLED 1920x1080 pixel display (providing 960x1080 px resolution per eye) with an RGB subpixel matrix, and is capable of displaying content at 120fps. It features a FOV of 100°, 6DOF head-tracking, stereoscopic 3D, and unwarped output to a TV, either for others to view what the headset wearer sees, or a separate display to compete against the headset user using a standard PS4 controller.

History

Sony's interest in head-mounted technology dates back to the 1990s. Its first commercial unit, the Glasstron, was released in 1997. One application of this technology was in the game MechWarrior 2, which permitted users of the Glasstron or Virtual I/O's iGlasses to adopt a visual perspective from inside the cockpit of the craft, using their own eyes as visual and seeing the battlefield through their craft's own cockpit.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016, commonly known as E3 2016, is scheduled to be the 22nd Electronic Entertainment Expo. The event will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California from June 14 to June 16, 2016.

Electronic Arts

Electronic Arts will host a press conference on June 12 at 1:00pm (PDT). EA will not have a booth on the show floor, and will instead hold EA Play events at Club Nokia in Los Angeles (the site of the conference) and The Mermaid in London from June 12 to 14, which will be open to the public with via free ticket applications.

Bethesda

Bethesda will host its second press conference on June 12 at 7:00pm (PDT).

PC Gaming Show

PC Gaming Show will host its second press conference on June 13 at 12:00pm (PDT).

GameWeek Magazine

GameWeek Magazine was a weekly video game magazine that was made by Cyberactive Media Group, Inc., a publishing company which specialized in business-to-business products serving the computer and video game industry. GameWeek was the leading trade publication of its time, and to this day remains the last printed trade publication which served the North American market.

History

It was published initially under the name Video Game Advisor (VGA) beginning in 1995 and changed names twice, to GameWeek, as it is best known, and later to Interactive Entertainment. "Interactive entertainment" was a phrase that is attributed to the magazine, but became part of the industry's vernacular and was popularized by Hal Halpin, founder and publisher - representing the convergence of the console, online and computer games sectors.

GameWeek was a glossy tabloid-sized newspaper-style magazine which included interviews with the game industry’s leading personalities, feature stories on the latest trends and reviews and previews of products from a salability perspective (as opposed to enthusiast media, which covered games from their playability or fun-factor). A significant portion of the magazine’s advertising revenue came from game publisher ads promoting upcoming titles to the leading retail buyers – who comprised the bulk of the 63,000 subscribers.
