Ronnie Drew was a great admirer of Dominic and Brenden Behan's works. McAlpine's Fusiliers is a famous Irish ballad set to a traditional air, written in the early 1960s by Dominic Behan. The song relates to the mass migration of Irish labor from Ireland to England that took place prior to, after and especially during The ballad's title refers to Sir Robert McAlpine, a major employer of Irish workmen. The song offers a satirical but on the whole accurate view of the life and work of the Irish laborers of the times and as such proved extremely popular, resonating strongly with the Irish population of London. It's interesting to note that Ronnie was a young man in London during the rebuilding, but worked as a less-than-successful salesman of vacuum cleaners.

McAlpine's Fusiliers is a famous Irish ballad set to a traditional air, written in the early 1960s by Dominic Behan. The ballad's title refers to Sir Robert McAlpine, a major employer of Irish workmen. John Laing and Wimpey (also referred to in the opening monologue; an integral part of the ballad although not included in some cover versions of the song) were other major construction companies employing many Irish 'navvies' (a British term referring to building labourers and originally coined for the labourers who built the British canals or 'navigations')

Ronnie Drew - McAlpine's Fusiliers (Live Performance W/Lyrics)
Ronnie Drew was a great admirer of Dominic and Brenden Behan's works. McAlpine's Fusiliers is a famous Irish ballad set to a traditional air, written in the early 1960s by Dominic Behan. The song relates to the mass migration of Irish labor from Ireland to England that took place prior to, after and especially during The ballad's title refers to Sir Robert McAlpine, a major employer of Irish workmen. The song offers a satirical but on the whole accurate view of the life and work of the Irish laborers of the times and as such proved extremely popular, resonating strongly with the Irish population of London. So Hello from London! Time for a new destination. This is a city that I haven't visited in almost 4 years. So we're both very excited to be in London. And we're going to be making a little video guide. Actually a really big video guide because we plan on showing you 50 different things to do around London.
Our first stop was Trafalgar Square. This square leads to a lot of central attractions, so it's a nice place to people watch, get your bearings, and plan out where you want to go in the city.
The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the Thames. It offers a bird's eye view of the city.
Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence for Britain's sovereigns since 1837. The State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to visitors every year.
The Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament, is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The Palace along with Big Ben are two of the top London attractions that dot the city-scape.
The Tower of London sits on the north bank of the River Thames.
And that's a wrap for London! Like with any mega city, it's impossible to cover all the sights and attractions you can enjoy here, but hopefully this video will give you an idea of what London has to offer.

Ronnie Drew - McAlpine's Fusiliers (Live Performance W/Lyrics)
Ronnie Drew was a great admirer of Dominic and Brenden Behan's works. McAlpine's Fusiliers is a famous Irish ballad set to a traditional air, written in the early 1960s by Dominic Behan. The song relates to the mass migration of Irish labor from Ireland to England that took place prior to, after and especially during The ballad's title refers to Sir Robert McAlpine, a major employer of Irish workmen. The song offers a satirical but on the whole accurate view of the life and work of the Irish laborers of the times and as such proved extremely popular, resonating strongly with the Irish population of London. Stacey meets friends - some wearing veils and others who are fully fledged EDL supporters. She goes to the heart of the Muslim community, dominated by one of the country's most extreme Muslim groups, meeting both self-proclaimed radicals and those trying to counter them.

Stacey comes across a group of Muslim Extremists in Luton who are protesting against the arrest of local woman and wife of the Stokholm bomber, Mona Thorney. Whilst following the protest Stacey is confronted by a Muslim woman and experiences first-hand the views held by these extremist groups.

London, Europe’s biggest and busiest metropolis, visited by 28 million tourists every year. They come for history, culture, and entertainment, but behind the glamour of the bright lights lies a concealed sinister city that most travellers don’t get to see. This is the Hidden City of London.
London is a city rich in history, but you won’t see it all from a double decker bus. In this programme we explore a secret subterranean world. We hunt for ghosts of centuries past, and unravel the most famous English mystery of all, Jack the Ripper.
In 1888, Jack the Ripper was the most feared name in London. The Ripper preyed upon prostitutes of the East End, in just ten weeks he savagely murdered five women, but to this day his true identity remains a mystery. In Victorian England the East End of London was a gloomy network of narrow cobbled streets shrouded in thick smog, life here was hard.
Each year on November 5th hundreds of bonfires burn across the city as millions celebrate Guy Fawkes Night. Guy Fawkes was a seventeenth century terrorist captured trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament with two tonnes of gunpowder. Fawkes was imprisoned in one of the most brutal and terrifying places of all, the Tower of London.
The West End is the Broadway of Europe. This is theatre land with over 40 playhouses in a single square mile. The Theatre Royal at Drury Lane is hundreds of years old, and seats 2500 theatre goers, both living, and dead. Mark Fox has been at the theatre since 1992, he claims to know of at least three ghosts that haunt the building, and he has a possible explanation for one of them.
In search of London’s darker mysteries we sail up the River Thames to one of the most glorious palaces in England. Hampton Court represents 500 years of royal history, and with it, countless hauntings.
Westminster, in the heart of London is Britain’s political hub and home to matters of vital national security, but these buildings were not built to withstand the impact of the Blitz of World War II. Instead Winston Churchill’s war cabinet held their meets at a top secret location below ground. Now a museum, the Churchill War Rooms have been left exactly as they were when they were abandoned in 1945.
