Richard John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan (born 18 December 1934), commonly known as Lord Lucan, was a British peer suspected of murder who disappeared in 1974. He was born into an Anglo-Irish aristocratic family in Marylebone, the eldest son of the 6th Earl of Lucan by his marriage to Kaitlin Dawson. An evacuee during the Second World War, Lucan returned to attend Eton College, and then from 1953 to 1955 served with the Coldstream Guards in West Germany. He developed a taste for gambling and, skilled at backgammon and bridge, became an early member of the Clermont Club. Although his losses often exceeded his winnings, he left his job at a London-based merchant bank and became a professional gambler. He was known as Lord Bingham from April 1949 until January 1964.
Once considered for the role of James Bond, Lucan was a charismatic man with expensive tastes; he raced power boats and drove an Aston Martin. In 1963 he married Veronica Duncan, with whom he had three children. When the marriage collapsed late in 1972, he moved out of the family home at 46 Lower Belgrave Street, in London's Belgravia, to a property nearby. A bitter custody battle ensued, which Lucan lost. He began to spy on his wife and record their telephone conversations, apparently obsessed with regaining custody of the children. This fixation, combined with his gambling losses, had a dramatic effect on his life and personal finances.
Marcus Annaeus Lucanus (November 3, 39 AD – April 30, 65 AD), better known in English as Lucan (/ˈluːkən/), was a Roman poet, born in Corduba (modern-day Córdoba), in the Hispania Baetica. Despite his short life, he is regarded as one of the outstanding figures of the Imperial Latin period. His youth and speed of composition set him apart from other poets.
Three brief ancient accounts allow for the reconstruction of a modest biography – the earliest attributed to Suetonius, another to an otherwise unknown Vacca, and the third anonymous and undated – along with references in Martial, Cassius Dio, Tacitus's Annals, and one of Statius's Silvae. Lucan was the son of Marcus Annaeus Mela and grandson of Seneca the Elder; he grew up under the tutelage of his uncle Seneca the Younger. Born into a wealthy family, he studied rhetoric at Athens and was probably provided with a philosophical and Stoic education by his uncle.
He found success under Nero, became one of the emperor's close friends and was rewarded with a quaestorship in advance of the legal age. In 60 AD, he won a prize for extemporizing Orpheus and Laudes Neronis at the quinquennial Neronia, and was again rewarded when the emperor appointed him to the augurate. During this time he circulated the first three books of his epic poem, Pharsalia (labelled De Bello civili in the manuscripts), which told the story of the civil war between Julius Caesar and Pompey.
Thames News was the flagship regional news programme of Thames Television, serving the Thames ITV region and broadcast on weekdays from 12 September 1977 to 31 December 1992.
The news service was produced and broadcast from Thames TV's headquarters at Euston Road in north-west London and, during its last few years in operation, from district newsrooms in Dartford in Kent, Guildford in Surrey and Watford in Hertfordshire.
Prior to Thames News, the station opted not to provide a conventional local news service in spite of requests from the Independent Television Authority to improve on Rediffusion's scant levels of regional output. Instead, Thames produced Today, a local magazine show presented chiefly on alternating nights by Eamonn Andrews and Bill Grundy. The programme was axed in the summer of 1977, several months after Grundy's infamous on-air interview with The Sex Pistols.
Today was replaced on Monday, 12 September 1977 by Thames at Six, a more conventional news magazine programme, presented by former ITN newscaster Andrew Gardner. The following year saw Thames establish a full strength newsroom, enabling daily coverage of London-specific news for the first time in ITV's history. A lunchtime Thames News bulletin was launched on Tuesday, 5 September 1978 – a late night bulletin, broadcast after News at Ten, was also due to launch on the same day, but was held back until Monday, 28 April 1980 because of union problems. During 1979, the main evening programme was renamed as Thames News.
Lord is an appellation for a person or deity who has authority, control, or power over others acting like a master, a chief, or a ruler. The appellation can also denote certain persons who hold a title of the peerage in the United Kingdom, or are entitled to courtesy titles. The collective "Lords" can refer to a group or body of peers.
According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, the etymology of the word can be traced back to the Old English word hlāford which originated from hlāfweard meaning "loaf-ward" or "bread keeper", reflecting the Germanic tribal custom of a chieftain providing food for his followers. The appellation "lord" is primarily applied to men, while for women the appellation "lady" is used. However, this is no longer universal: the Lord of Mann, a title currently held by the Queen of the United Kingdom, and female Lord Mayors are examples of women who are styled Lord.
Under the feudal system, "lord" had a wide, loose and varied meaning. An overlord was a person from whom a landholding or a manor was held by a mesne lord or vassal under various forms of feudal land tenure. The modern term "landlord" is a vestigial survival of this function. A liege lord was a person to whom a vassal owed sworn allegiance. Neither of these terms were titular dignities, but rather factual appellations, which described the relationship between two or more persons within the highly stratified feudal social system. For example, a man might be Lord of the Manor to his own tenants but also a vassal of his own overlord, who in turn was a vassal of the King. Where a knight was a lord of the manor, he was referred to in contemporary documents as "John (Surname), knight, lord of (manor name)". A feudal baron was a true titular dignity, with the right to attend Parliament, but a feudal baron, Lord of the Manor of many manors, was a vassal of the King.
Mystery, The Mystery, mysteries, The Mysteries, or mysterious may refer to: Something that cannot be explained or comprehended. Any action, affair, or event so obscure or concealed as to arouse suspense, curiosity, or fear is a mystery.

Plot: In 2003 author John Pearson interviews elderly John Burke and Susie Maxwell-Scott for his book 'The Gamblers', centering on the Clermont Club, a Mayfair casino run by ruthless zoo keeper John Aspinall some thirty years earlier. Lucan 's chief client is John Bingham, Lord Lucan, ironically nicknamed Lucky due to his consistent losing streak. When Lucan's long-suffering wife Veronica protests at his profligacy he is violent and, under Aspinall's malign influence, tries - and fails - to discredit Veronica's sanity to gain custody of their children after their divorce. Whilst Veronica delights in the friendship of her nanny Sandra Rivett Lucan, once more led on by Aspinall, arrives at Veronica's house with murder in mind but, in the dark, accidentally kills Sandra, rather than intended victim Veronica. Realizing his mistake he attacks Veronica but she escapes and seeks help in a pub from where she is taken to hospital. As Lucan goes on the run Aspinall summons fellow club members and insists they close ranks to help the fugitive but the fair-minded Dominic Elwes refuses and writes an article putting Veronica's case and showing up the Clermont members for what they are. As a result he is made a social pariah and commits suicide. Meanwhile Lucan, in his absence, is found guilty of killing Sandra and attacking Veronica. In 2003 the dying Susie Maxwell-Scott summons John Pearson and tells him she believes that Aspinall got Lucan to Switzerland though she also considers that Aspinall persuaded Lucan to return to England to see his children and threw him over the side of the boat to prevent further disgrace. Veronica surmises that Lucan killed himself but both are of the opinion that his corpse lies in the English Channel.

On the 11th November 2004 Channel Four transmitted this documentary. It was the first time that 'George' Lord Lucan's Son had contributed to a television programme which sought to answer the question, 'what ever happened to Lord Lucan.' Lucan disappeared on the 7th November 1974. It was at his Belgravia home that evening, that the bludgeoned body of his childrens' nanny Sandra Rivett was discovered in the basement. Whilst this documentary was in pre production I was socialising with George. We got along very well. George was aware of my long standing interest in his Father, and my desire to locate him either dead or alive. Sadly but inevitably, our friendship came to an abrupt end when I returned from one of my many trips to Africa, having discovered that George and his eldest sister had...
Lord Lucan Dossier The case of John Bingham, 7th Earl of Lucan, who disappeared in November 1974, coinciding with the murder of his children's nanny Sandra Rivett. Lucan was never caught or tried for the crime, but in the four decades since he fled numerous sightings have been reported of him from around the world. Some people believe he escaped justice, while others think he too was later murdered. Other cases considered include the kidnapping and murder of aviator Charles Lindbergh's baby son in 1927 and the disappearance of American union leader Jimmy Hoffa in an act some people claim was a mob-sanctioned hit.
Lord Lucan documentary narrated by Ludovic Kennedy. Here is a rather tragic update on Lady Lucan from June 2017: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4575438/How-Lady-Lucan-lost-all.html and a story about Camilla Bingham http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2485174/Lucans-QC-daughter-breaks-39-year-silence.html Sadly it appears the aristocratic friends of Lucan blamed Veronica and ostrasized her from her family.

A year after the brutal murder, of the Children's nanny Mrs Sandra Rivett, Lady Lucan was interviewed and asked if she would like to see her husband again. Then on November 2nd 1981,one of Lord Lucan's sisters, Lady Sarah Gibbs gave an interview. She stated: 'He went away because he wanted to protect the children from unwelcome publicity.....The time may well come to say a lot more but for now let me say that we are sure that he is alive.' In 22nd January 2007 Lady Lucan sent me an email. She stated: 'Why doesn't my late husband return to this country now as he would certainly be acquitted because of the amount of publicity the case has attracted?' Eighteen minutes later, I received a further email from Lady Lucan, she stated: 'He doesn't return because he is dead.' If this is taken at...
Lord Lucan 'shot himself then was fed to this tiger': Breaking a 40-year silence, one of the missing peer's gambling set reveals what he insists REALLY happened within hours of Lucan killing the nanny To the backdrop of the usual Clermont Club hubbub — cards being shuffled, stakes placed and dice shaken — two distinguished-looking men stand in a quiet corner deep in conversation. Stephen Raphael and Philippe Marcq, like pretty much the rest of the country at the time, are talking about Lord Lucan. It is November 1974 and just hours earlier the 39-year-old aristocrat had vanished, leaving behind the bloodied body of the family nanny Sandra Rivett — whom he had apparently mistaken for his wife and bludgeoned to death. Mr Raphael and Mr Marcq, both wealthy stockbrokers, knew Lucan better than...
