Saloon (album)

Saloon is the debut studio album for Christian metal band The Ongoing Concept. The album was produced by their vocalist/guitarist Dawson Scholz, and was released on August 20, 2013 through Solid State Records. The album attracted commercial success and positive criticism.

Critical reception

Saloon garnered positive reception from seven music critics rating and reviews. At HM, David Stagg rated the album four stars out of five, stating the release is "Highly recommended."About.com's Chad Bowar rated the album four stars out of five, writing that the album is "an appealing package." At Jesus Freak Hideout, Michael Weaver rated the album four-and-a-half stars out of five, saying that "The Ongoing Concept have more than delivered on their debut album." Timothy Estabrooks of Jesus Freak Hideout rated the album four stars out of five, stating how it is "off-the-wall yet extremely fun music." At New Release Tuesday, Mary Nikkel rated the album four stars out of five, writing that it "is an incredibly strong first release" that is like a "glass of cold water in a ghost town genre, offering a refreshing dose of unashamed originality amidst a multitude of carbon-copy peers." Christian Music Zine's Anthony Peronto rated the album four stars out of five, saying that it is "groundbreaking material". Showdown (Pendulum song)

"Showdown" is the fourth single and first track from the album In Silico by Australian drum and bass band Pendulum. It has been remixed by several artists, including DJ Clipz (who is also Red Light) and Excision. It is also the first single taken from In Silico not to use the album logo prominently on its cover.

The single was originally released through various online music stores on 5 January 2009. It was not available in any physical format until 9 February, when Warner Music UK released the 12" picture disc of "Showdown". To help promote the single, Pendulum also released a Space Invaders themed video game which offered players a chance of winning an official framed gold disc of In Silico.

Background and writing

"Showdown" was originally written and produced for the album In Silico by Rob Swire. Although primarily influenced by drum and bass, the song contains prominent elements of both early hard rock and techno, and has even been described as "dance metal" by some critics. "Showdown" opens with vocals from Swire, before going into a heavy guitar riff which is the main focus of the track. It also makes extensive use of both sampled and acoustic drums to produce large and heavy sounds respectively.

Showdown (Electric Light Orchestra album)

Showdown is an Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) compilation album, covering their Harvest Records years. It is the first in a very long line of Electric Light Orchestra compilation albums. It was also the first time the hit single "Showdown" featured on an album in the UK.

Showdown is the sixteenth album released by The Isley Brothers on their T-Neck imprint in April 22, 1978.

The album was remastered and expanded for inclusion in the 2015 released CD box set "The RCA Victor & T-Neck Album Masters, 1959-1983".

Reception

Spawning the #1 funk/disco hit, "Take Me to the Next Phase" and the top 20 R&B slower, "Groove With You", the album became another platinum album for the Isleys.

Low-rise (fashion)

Low-rise is a style of clothing designed to sit low on, or below, the hips. The style can also be called lowcut, hipster, or hip-hugger. and can apply to garments worn by males or females. The term can be applied to all garments that cover the wearer's crotch area, including trousers, jeans, shorts, skirts, panties, briefs, bikinis, pantyhose, and tights.

Terminology

The "rise" of a bottom garment is measured by the distance between the crotch and the waistline or top of the garment and is usually around 12 inches (30 cm) on regular pants. The average rise of a low-rise garment is roughly 8 inches (20 cm) with some as little as 3 to 4 inches (7.6 to 10.2 cm). A normal low-rise sits at least 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm) below the navel. A "super" or an "ultra low-rise" sits at 4 to 5 inches (10 to 13 cm) below the navel.

History

The low-rise fashion expanded in the early 1990s after the March 1993 issue of the British magazine The Face which featured Kate Moss in low-rise jeans.
