North Vancouver may refer to:
It may also refer to:
Vancouver (i/væŋˈkuːvər/ or /vænˈkuːvər/) officially the City of Vancouver, is a coastal seaport city on the mainland of British Columbia, Canada.
The 2011 census recorded 603,502 people in the city, making it the eighth largest Canadian municipality. The Greater Vancouver area of around 2.4 million inhabitants is the third most populous metropolitan area in the country, the second largest city on the United States–Canada border, and the most populous in Western Canada. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada; 52% of its residents have a first language other than English. Vancouver is classed as a Beta global city. The City of Vancouver encompasses a land area of about 114 square kilometres, giving it a population density of about 5,249 people per square kilometre (13,590 per square mile). Vancouver is the most densely populated Canadian municipality, and the fourth most densely populated city with over 250,000 residents in North America, behind New York City, San Francisco, and Mexico City.
Grouse Mountain is one of the North Shore Mountains of the Pacific Ranges in the District Municipality of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Exceeding 1,200 m (4,000 feet) in altitude at its peak, is the site of an alpine ski area, Grouse Mountain Resort, which in the winter season overlooks Greater Vancouver with four chairlifts servicing 26 runs. In the summer, Grouse Mountain Resort features lumberjack shows, a birds of prey wildlife demonstration, a scenic chairlift ride, and a 2.9 km (1.8 mi.) hiking trail known as the Grouse Grind, as well as helicopter sightseeing. Year-round operations include a 100-seat mountaintop theatre and a wildlife refuge. Public access to the mountain top is by a Swiss Garaventa aerial tramway, or the Grouse Grind hiking trail (Open for hiking May-October.)
Grouse Mountain's first lodge was hand-built by Scandinavians in the 1920s. They hauled planks up what would become the Grouse Grind hiking trail for the venture. Another company wanted to build a funicular railway for a private resort on the mountain, though that venture never materialized. By the 1930s, a toll road was built to the top via the slope of what is now the mountain's primary ski run, the "Cut", to access the lodge.
North is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. North is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of south and is perpendicular to east and west.
The word north is related to the Old High German nord, both descending from the Proto-Indo-European unit ner-, meaning "down" (or "under"). (Presumably a natural primitive description of its concept is "to the left of the rising sun".)
The Latin word borealis comes from the Greek boreas "north wind, north", which, according to Ovid, was personified as the son of the river-god Strymon, the father of Calais and Zetes. Septentrionalis is from septentriones, "the seven plow oxen", a name of Ursa Maior. The Greek arktikos is named for the same constellation, and is the derivation of the English word "Arctic".
Other languages have sometimes more interesting derivations. For example, in Lezgian, kefer can mean both 'disbelief' and 'north', since to the north of the Muslim Lezgian homeland there are areas formerly inhabited by non-Muslim Caucasian and Turkic peoples. In many languages of Mesoamerica, "north" also means "up". In Hungarian the word for north is észak, which is derived from éjszaka ("night"), since above the Tropic of Cancer, the Sun never shines from the north.

http://www.freejazzvancouver.com We start our drive from way up the mountain in North Vancouver, British Columbia on Lonsdale Avenue. As we go down (2:36), we will drive by North Vancouver's downtown area. There are some interesting restaurants to be discovered around here. At 5:01, you can see Vancouver from across the river. A right is taken on 3rd Street (5:38) which takes us to Marine Drive (7:09). The traffic is pretty bad on this street (but perhaps, that's due to the construction). Finally we get on Capilano Road (14:02) which takes us to one of North Vancouver's most exciting sightseeing attractions, the Capilano Suspension Bridge (16:39). For those with a fear of heights, you'd best avoid going here. At the end, we reach the ropeway (21:25) which will take you to the top of G...
Driving on Highway 99 (sea to sky highway) from North Vancouver to Squamish just south of Whistler
http://www.freejazzvancouver.com This is part one of our 3-part North Vancouver series. We start our journey at the bottom of a hill. As we get up, we take a right (0:34) into North Vancouver's most illustrious university, Capilano. This school does have a jazz music program and we pass by the building where all this music happens at 2:37. After this we drive by the pub at the bottom of the hill and eventually we reach... the residential areas of North Van. You'll probably be quite impressed as we get further and further up the mountain. Bears do appear around these mountains so please be careful. The music was performed by Free Jazz Vancouver, a group that likes to improvise. Mark Quigley - trombone & voice Chipmunk Page - piccolo flute & alto flute & flute Mark Kwan - guitar C Walt...

Murray Siple's feature-length documentary follows a group of homeless men who have combined bottle picking with the extreme sport of racing shopping carts down the steep hills of North Vancouver. This subculture depicts street life as much more than the stereotypes portrayed in mainstream media. The film takes a deep look into the lives of the men who race carts, the adversity they face and the appeal of cart racing despite the risk. Shot in high-definition and featuring tracks from Black Mountain, Ladyhawk, Vetiver, Bison, and Alan Boyd of Little Sparta. Directed by Murray Siple - 2008
