We open with JB, Terry, Howie and Ronnie (after Dick Ervasti does his opening spiel) and a brief snippet of Cowboy guard Nate Newton poking fun at Howie Long's acting career (with Howie getting a quick plug for his movie "Firestorm"). GAME PREVIEWS (Snickers "FOX Watch"): 1. Eagles-Cowboys; Dallas enters game without fullback Daryl Johnston, left tackle Mark Tuinei, defensive tackle Chad Hennings and strong safety Darren Woodson. The Eagles came in pretty banged up too, missing wide receiver Chris T. Jones, cornerback Bobby Taylor and defensive tackle Jon Harris. (Pat Summerall) 2. 49ers-Saints; 49ers enter this game on a 6-game win streak thanks to their league-leading rushing attack while Steve Young still led the league in passer rating (and we get a good shot of Young's bald spot) (Kevin Harlan/Jerry Glanville {who makes a remark one would have considered heresy - saying the 49ers were better without Jerry Rice [out with an injury suffered in the Week 1 game vs. Tampa Bay]}) STORIES 1. James Brown issues a reminder that the Bears-Dolphins game scheduled for that day was moved to the following night due to the Florida (now Miami) Marlins (who shared what was by this time called Pro Player Stadium then) losing to the Cleveland Indians 4-1 to force the 7th and deciding game that night (which the Marlins won to clinch the World Series 3-2). The move ended up creating an impromptu Monday Night Football doubleheader in which that game went only to the regions around Chicago and Miami; while the rest of the country got the only Super Bowl rematch to air on Monday Night Football when ABC carried the games; with the defending champion Green Bay Packers playing the New England Patriots. 2. Back in Hollywood, the guys discuss the work that the 49ers have done in the turnaround without Jerry Rice. 3. JB mentions a story about how the Denver Broncos were unable to leave for Buffalo due to a snowstorm until Saturday afternoon, resulting in their not arriving until overnight...for a game vs. the Bills scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EST 4. Minnesota Vikings head coach Dennis Green was still upset with the team ownership due to some members of the ownership wanting to dump Green in the 1996 season in favor of newly-departed Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz, and in his "No Room for Crybabies" book threatened a lawsuit unless the pro-Holtz faction sold their shares of the team to him (Brown) 5. On Tap; Terry Bradshaw's interview with Nate Newton (allowing for another joke about the Cowboys' up-and-down season by Dick Ervasti); Ronnie Lott's "Woo" hits and Pam Oliver's interview with Viking running back Robert Smith. 5. JB and Terry interview Packers head coach Mike Holmgren 6. Panel discussion of the quarterback duel in the (main) MNF game between Brett Favre and Drew Bledsoe 7. Pam Oliver interviews Viking running back Robert Smith, who was playing the first season of his career up to then without missing large chunks of time due to injuries 8. Panel discussion on the Vikings-Buccaneers game (comparing Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer) 9. Terry Bradshaw interviews Cowboy guard Nate Newton; quarterback Troy Aikman; running back Emmitt Smith and head coach Barry Switzer about the inconsistent play of Dallas that season 10. Ronnie Lott's "Woo" hits (showing a collection of hard hits - apparently the requirements were "as long as it didn't cause an injury or result in a flag" - similar to ESPN's old "Jacked Up" segment. That said, probably a good number of the ones that were okay then would lead to a penalty nowadays) 11. The guys go out to the little field on the side of the studio, and Ronnie explains the proper technique to avoid a neck injury to any kids watching (presumably this section has been retired as Terry and Howie have gotten older) 13. Final thoughts: Ronnie hopes the 49ers offensive line protects Steve Young; Howie mentions that Viking defensive tackle John Randle won't have to deal with double-teams with the arrival of Jerry Ball back in shape and Terry mentions how the Bucs (coached by former teammate Tony Dungy) needed a win over Minnesota to avoid a three-game losing streak 14. JB clarifies the Bears-Dolphins substitution conga: the Orlando market (watching on WOFL) gets Cowboys-Eagles as their substitute for Bears-Dolphins; while everyone else scheduled to get that game would see the Vikings-Buccaneers
