The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is a labor union which represents nearly 750,000 workers and retirees in the electrical industry in the United States, Canada,Panama,Guam and Wake Island. and several Caribbean island nations; particularly electricians, or Inside Wiremen, in the construction industry and linemen and other employees of public utilities. The union also represents some workers in the computer, telecommunications, broadcasting, and other fields related to electrical work. It was founded in 1891 shortly after homes and businesses in the United States began receiving electricity. Its international president is Lonnie R. Stephenson. The IBEW is affiliated with the AFL-CIO.
The beginnings of the IBEW were in the Electrical Wiremen and Linemen's Union No. 5221, founded in St. Louis, Missouri in 1890. By 1891, after sufficient interest was shown in a national union, a convention was held on November 21, 1891 in St. Louis. At the convention, the IBEW, then known as the National Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (NBEW), was officially formed. The American Federation of Labor gave the NBEW a charter as an AFL affiliate on December 7, 1891. The union's official journal, The Electrical Worker, was first published on January 15, 1893, and has been published ever since. At the 1899 convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the union's name was officially changed to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
San Diego /ˌsæn diːˈeɪɡoʊ/ (Spanish for "Saint Didacus") is a major city in California, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, approximately 120 miles (190 km) south of Los Angeles and immediately adjacent to the border with Mexico.
With an estimated population of 1,381,069 as of July 1, 2014, San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the United States and second-largest in California. San Diego is the birthplace of California and is known for its mild year-round climate, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, long association with the U.S. Navy, and recent emergence as a healthcare and biotechnology development center.
Historically home to the Kumeyaay people, San Diego was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Upon landing in San Diego Bay in 1542, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo claimed the entire area for Spain, forming the basis for the settlement of Alta California 200 years later. The Presidio and Mission of San Diego, founded in 1769, formed the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1821, San Diego became part of newly independent Mexico, and in 1850, became part of the United States following the Mexican–American War and the admission of California to the union.

Henry Miller, who died more than 110-years ago, was the founder, first president and driving force behind the first union of electrical workers in North America the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Despite the key role he played in the history of the IBEW and the early labor movement, little is known about Millers life and career. This short film from the IBEW Media Department sheds some light on the life and times of Brother Miller and the dawn of the IBEW.

The use of alternative classifications to win jobs in smaller construction markets is nothing new for the IBEW. For more than 60 years, New York City Local 3 has used the M Division classification to put journeymen wiremen to work on shopping malls, banks, and other small works projects. "I was a little skeptical at first, but it took 310 days of unemployment to realize that I would be starving out there without it," says Local 3 Journeyman Wireman Willie Ramirez, who recently got back to work thanks to a small works project. "This is a great opportunity to get us back to work."

Prevent wire abrasion by using THHN as a makeshift roller bar. When pulling conductors, you see the chance of abrading the conductors on the fitting. To create a makeshift roller bar, take a piece of solid THHN and place it through the holes that are in each 4 inch square box. Tighten the THHN, wrapping it around itself to create a taut barrier. This will prevent the conductors from abrading against the metal fitting.
IBEW vs Non-Union I go further in depth on how Union os the best way to go in regards to benefits, training , exposure, profesionalism, safety and working conditions. I cover how a pension works and debunk the myth that pensions and 401k are causing economic stress. I also talk about PLA's (Project Labor Agreeements) and how Non-Union memebers get prevailing wage on PLA jobs. It is all thanks to the union!! With a union, women also make the same as yheir male counterparts. There is no division in that aspect unlike other corporate jobs. Why would unions be a bad things is the word UNION exists in the name of our country USA. United as one is how America became independent and gained their rights from Europe.
