A young woman (Lil Dagover) confronts the personification of Death (Bernhard Goetzke), in an effort to save the life of her fiance (Walter Janssen). Death weaves three romantic tragedies and offers to unite the girl with her lover, if she can prevent the death of the lovers in at least one of the episodes. Fritz Langs DER MÜDE TOD von 1921 kehrt in der digitalen Restaurierung durch die Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung auf die Kinoleinwand zurück. Der Film kam 1921 nicht als Schwarz-Weiß-Film, sondern mittels Virage und Tonung eingefärbt ins Kino. Durch die Wiedererschaffung der Färbungen wird der Film neu interpretiert und lebt in hervorragender Qualität wieder auf. Das Projekt wurde von Anke Wilkening geleitet.

Fritz Lang’s expressionist fable of life… and death, coming to cinemas in the UK & Ireland!
Before directing numerous genre defining masterpieces such as Metropolis, M, and Spione, Fritz Lang was already defying cinematic conventions with Der müde Tod (literally, The Weary Death).
A young woman (Lil Dagover) confronts the personification of Death (Bernhard Goetzke), in an effort to save the life of her fiancé (Walter Janssen). Death weaves three romantic tragedies and offers to unite the girl with her lover, if she can prevent the death of the lovers in at least one of the episodes. Thus begin three exotic scenarios of ill-fated love, in which the woman must somehow reverse the course of destiny: Persia, Quattrocento Venice, and a fancifully rendered ancient China.
Rich in expressionist imagery and featuring innovative special effects work, Der müde Tod has often been overlooked amongst Lang’s early work, but has been hugely influential, with directors such as Alfred Hitchcock and Luis Buñuel citing it as a direct influence on their work. Now in 2017, in a new restoration by Anke Wilkening on behalf of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung, this definitive presentation of Der müde Tod preserves the original German intertitles and simulates the historic colour tinting and toning of its initial release, and is accompanied by a newly-composed score by Cornelius Schwehr as a commissioned composition by ZDF / ARTE which was originally performed by the 70-member Berlin Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Frank Strobel, at Berlinale 2016.
Der müde Tod will be released in selected cinemas nationwide (UK & Ireland) and on Digital HD from 9 June 2017.

The film was believed lost until the 1990s when the IFI Irish Film Archive found a badly deteriorated copy in the Library of Congress. Destiny (1921 film)
Destiny (German: Der müde Tod, "Weary Death"; originally released in the US as Behind the Wall) is a 1921 silent film directed in Germany by Fritz Lang. The film, rich in special effects, is structured as a frame tale with three stories within the story.
Plot
In the Expressionistic frame story, in which human lives are each represented by a candle, Death grants a woman three chances to save her lover, if love can triumph over death. The three stories within the story each occur in a setting that is nominally historic, but really in the realm of fantasy: an adventure tale with a Persian setting out of the Arabian Nights, a Renaissance Venetian romance, and a largely comic story set in China.
Release
In Germany, the film was poorly received at first, with critics complaining that it was not 'German' enough, but the film was much more successful overseas.Douglas Fairbanks purchased the American rights, to delay its general American release while he copied the effects of the Persian segment for his 1924 The Thief of Baghdad.

Plot: Blinded by love is an urban drama that takes place in the Bronx in the streets of New York City during the school semester on the campus of Lehman College. In this story we meet a young couple by the name of Jose and Destiny. Destiny has hopes and dreams to become a famous hip hop dancer and Jose has some what of a dream to become a famous basketball player. In this story we learn about the young couples romance and issues faced with domestic violence and anger. Jose coming from an alcohol abuse household carries the burden of being the only child and exposed to his parents act of violence and drug use. This behavior he lives with at home only leads him to poor decision making, anger outrages, and leaving Destiny as the victim to this behavior. With no family to turn too the only support Destiny has is her friends whose decision for her best interest is her last option. Soon shortly Jose's anger issues soon begin to turn their once loving relationship into acts filled with domestic violence disputes. Just like any other violent relationship the abuse goes from smacks into acts of physical abuse. Destiny is then shortly forced into making the decision of standing by his side or dealing with her fear of being alone. As time goes on a new interest comes around campus by the name of Anthony who is also a young college student and will do anything to make Destiny his new love interest. The question is: Does Destiny want to find true love or does she rather stay in a relationship that is filled with anger, abuse, and confusion?

The film was believed lost until the 1990s when the IFI Irish Film Archive found a badly deteriorated copy in the Library of Congress. Now in 2017, in a new restoration by Anke Wilkening on behalf of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung, this definitive presentation of Der müde Tod preserves the original German intertitles and simulates the historic colour tinting and toning of its initial release, and is accompanied by a newly-composed score by Cornelius Schwehr as a commissioned composition by ZDF / ARTE which was originally performed by the 70-member Berlin Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Frank Strobel, at Berlinale 2016.

"A scene from the feature film Irish Destiny, made by Dr Issac Eppel to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 1916 Rising. The film was believed lost until the 1990s when the IFI Irish Film Archive found a badly deteriorated copy in the Library of Congress. It was repatriated and restored and later released on DVD with a new score by Mícheal Ó Súilleabhain , recorded by the RTE concert orchestra." - Photos of Dublin

Vergleich Farbe und schwarz-weiss (2016): Die verlorenen Einfärbungen der Szenen wurden anhand zeitgenössischer Verleihkopien anderer Decla-Produktionen der gleichen Periode simuliert. Der Unterschied zwischen schwarz-weiss und den Färbungen der neuen digitalen Restaurierung wird im Split-Screen-Vergleich deutlich.
Fritz Langs DER MÜDE TOD von 1921 kehrt in der digitalen Restaurierung durch die Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung auf die Kinoleinwand zurück. Der Film kam 1921 nicht als Schwarz-Weiß-Film, sondern mittels Virage und Tonung eingefärbt ins Kino. Durch die Wiedererschaffung der Färbungen wird der Film neu interpretiert und lebt in hervorragender Qualität wieder auf. Das Projekt wurde von Anke Wilkening geleitet.
Die digitale Restaurierung wurde ermöglicht durch die Unterstützung von Bertelsmann als Hauptsponsor sowie mit Mitteln aus der Digitalisierungsoffensive der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien und vom Förderverein „Freunde und Förderer des deutschen Filmerbes e.V.“. Die Präsentation am 12. Februar 2016 bei den Berlinale Classics ist eine Kooperation der Internationalen Filmfestspiele Berlin mit der Deutschen Kinemathek – Museum für Film und Fernsehen, ZDF/Arte und dem Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB) unter der Leitung von Frank Strobel. Für diese Weltpremiere sowie spätere Auswertungen in TV, Kino, DVD und Blu-ray entsteht eine neue Filmmusik, die neue Komposition stammt von Cornelius Schwehr. Die neue Fassung des Films ist 98 Minuten lang und hat am 15. Februar 2016 ihre TV-Ausstrahlung auf ARTE.
