Steven John Wilson (born 3 November 1967) is an English musician and record producer, most associated with the progressive rock genre. Currently a successful solo artist, he became known as the founder, lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the band Porcupine Tree, as well as being a member of several other bands. He has also worked with artists such as Opeth, King Crimson, Pendulum, Jethro Tull, XTC, Yes, Marillion, Orphaned Land and Anathema.
Wilson is a self-taught producer, audio engineer, guitar and keyboard player, playing other instruments as needed, including bass guitar, autoharp, hammered dulcimer and flute. He currently lives in Hemel Hempstead, the town he grew up in, but has also spent time living in London and Tel Aviv, Israel, although he does not hold a residence in Tel Aviv anymore.
His music has received wide acclaim. He has been four times nominated for the Grammy Awards, twice with Porcupine Tree, with his collaborative band Storm Corrosion and as a soloist on one occasion. In 2015, he received three awards at the London Progressive Music Awards for his services to the world of progressive rock music and crowned "the king of prog rock".
Drive Home is an EP released by British musician Steven Wilson, featuring music videos, previously unreleased tracks, and live renditions of several songs recorded at Hugenottenhalle, Frankfurt on 23 March 2013. The EP, which was released on 21 October 2013, was available in two versions: DVD/CD and Blu-ray/CD.
Thom Jurek of Allmusic praised the title track's "gorgeous meld of Pink Floyd's nocturnal atmospherics, the Moody Blues' melodic majesty, sprawling guitar solos, and Alan Parsons' crystalline production", while also describing the live tracks as "killer readings" which the band members "take ... far outside their studio boundaries." Although the EP would seem to be "for hardcore Wilson fans only, the video disc is alone worth the price of admission", according to Jurek.
All songs written by Steven Wilson.
"The Raven" is a narrative poem by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. First published in January 1845, the poem is often noted for its musicality, stylized language, and supernatural atmosphere. It tells of a talking raven's mysterious visit to a distraught lover, tracing the man's slow fall into madness. The lover, often identified as being a student, is lamenting the loss of his love, Lenore. Sitting on a bust of Pallas, the raven seems to further instigate his distress with its constant repetition of the word "Nevermore". The poem makes use of a number of folk, mythological, religious, and classical references.
Poe claimed to have written the poem very logically and methodically, intending to create a poem that would appeal to both critical and popular tastes, as he explained in his 1846 follow-up essay, "The Philosophy of Composition". The poem was inspired in part by a talking raven in the novel Barnaby Rudge: A Tale of the Riots of 'Eighty by Charles Dickens. Poe borrows the complex rhythm and meter of Elizabeth Barrett's poem "Lady Geraldine's Courtship", and makes use of internal rhyme as well as alliteration throughout.

For my North and South American fans, expect to see further tour news soon. Also released today is the finished version of a track from the album ‘Pariah’, a song I wrote especially to be a duet with the wonderful Ninet Tayeb. ‘Permanating’ represents a departure from the rest of the album and the more melancholic material I'm known for in that it's probably the most joyous piece of pure pop I've ever recorded. In my mind this is what ABBA and Electric Light Orchestra would sound like as produced by Daft Punk! While I expect it to create healthy debate amongst my listeners, it's one of the songs I'm most proud of on the new record because it's such a different approach for me, and I thrive from changing my sound and trying new things. Production of a video for the song is in progress, news on that soon. In the meantime, hope you enjoy! "Amongst the hundreds of songs I have written over the years, 'Routine' has a very special place. It's a deeply sad story of loss and denial, but at its conclusion the clouds lift and there is acceptance at least. Having worked with her on 3 previous videos, I knew as soon as I wrote it that it was perfect for Jess to do something amazing with. Even then nothing prepared me for the organic beauty and power of the film she made, a painstaking labour of love that took her months to produce. When we play the song live I look out into the audience and see people swept away with emotion at the combination of music and animation. To find poetry and beauty in sadness is a wonderful thing I think" - Steven Wilson Directed by Jess Cope http://www.owlhousestudios.com http://stevenwilsonhq.com

Last summer I played with my band at the legendary North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands. We only had a one hour slot in the middle of the afternoon, but still we had a lot of fun and received some good energy from the crowd, many of whom who were new to the music. Since the age of 10, Steven Wilson has been making music. Whether as a solo artist or the driving force behind Porcupine Tree, creating sound is simply what he does. And, here, he admits that his dedication to art has come at the expense of having a family. In a very personal and revealing interview, Wilson explains his motivation and general outlook on the music industry. * Apparently This Matters is an interview series by Jarrett Bellini. The concept it simple: I have a case filled with postcards. On the back of each postcard, I write different topics. We pick these cards at random. And then we talk. ** My Production Gear: http://www.jarrettbellini.com/2016/12/my-production-gear.html

The other half is somewhere else
A play in the dark
Whines like dogs
I am restless, I am lost
Time freezes up
Flawless eyes
The rope you used to tie yourself
Dreams enter planes
Scatter remains
I reach for you, belying your touch
Snow starts to glide
