Since 2010 there have been 1,800 reported acid attacks in the London, with a steep 70% rise between 2015 to 2016. As the number of victims grows, data suggests Britain has the worst record in the developed world for assaults with household acids like bleach and drain cleaner. Only a quarter of recorded attacks have lead to charges being brought, for fear of a repeated attack or a lack of trail for police to pinpoint attackers. From gang disputes to moped thieves, why has acid become the go-to weapon for young criminals in the UK?

Culture, religion, politics and landscape can be very different just a couple hundred miles down the road – even if it’s still in the same country. Yes, the communications revolution may have brought people closer together but the world remains as diverse and large as it was decades ago.
For North Americans, Britain and the rest of the United Kingdom is one of the most familiar of the world’s foreign lands. After all, while the English we speak may be different today in a number of ways, the language so many of us are familiar with today has its roots across the Atlantic Ocean. In the grand scheme, whether you live in Canada or the United States, your country, in one way or another, owes its existence to this overseas kingdom. Both countries may have gone about reaching independence very differently, but in the grand scheme both exist because of the vast empire which existed long ago.
Despite the historical and language ties which we share with England and the UK, once you take a closer look at this land, there are a number of characteristics which we might think of as being rather weird. There are the generalizations and stereotypes which most us know; such as belief that the British all have bad teeth, it rains every day and the beer is always served warm. There are, actually, quite a few other things about the UK that are weird and not based on stereotype or generalization. These are the ‘little things’ that set this part of the world apart from other English speaking lands.
The following video looks at some of the weirdest things a traveller might find in the United Kingdom. Our other videos have dealt with strange things like Haggis and cheese racing, so we’ll move on to some other items you may be less familiar with. Ahead are a number of things you’ll find weird (if you’re not from the UK) from various laws and foods to word pronunciations, television shows and customs. Of course, these doesn’t make the people of the UK weird – well, any weirder than the rest of us.

Its capital city is London, an important global city and financial centre with an urban population of 10,310,000, the fourth-largest in Europe and second-largest in the European Union. The current monarch—since 6 February 1952—is Queen Elizabeth II. The UK consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The latter three have devolved administrations, each with varying powers, based in their capitals, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast, respectively. The nearby Isle of Man, Bailiwick of Guernsey and Bailiwick of Jersey are not part of the United Kingdom, being Crown dependencies with the British Government responsible for defence and international representation.

Great Britain, also known as Britain 
i/ˈbrɪ.tən/, is an island in the North Atlantic off the north-west coast of continental Europe. With an area of 209,331 km2 (80,823 sq mi), it is the largest island in Europe and the ninth-largest in the world. In 2011 the island had a population of about 61 million people, making it the third-most populous island in the world, after Java in Indonesia and Honshu in Japan. It accounts for the majority of the British Isles archipelago, along with over 1,000 smaller surrounding islands, including the island of Ireland to its west.
The island is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constituting most of its territory: most of England, Scotland, and Wales are on the island, with their respective capital cities, London, Edinburgh, and Cardiff. Politically, the term Great Britain usually extends to include surrounding islands that form part of England, Scotland, and Wales.
A single Kingdom of Great Britain resulted from the Union of Scotland and England (which already comprised the present-day countries of England and Wales) in 1707. More than a hundred years before, in 1603, King James VI, King of Scots, had inherited the throne of England, but it was not until 1707 that the Parliaments of the two countries agreed to form a unified state. Subsequently, in 1801, Great Britain united with the neighbouring Kingdom of Ireland, forming the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The United (Arabic: المتحدين) is a 2012 film produced by Touchstone Pictures. It was conceived as Disney's first ever Arabic-language film, intended primarily for Middle Eastern audiences. Produced by Rachel Gandin, The United was directed by Amin Matalqa, written by Nizar Wattad, and features performances from Farouk Al-Fishawy, Waleed Zuaiter, Bosaina, and Amir Scandar. It was shot in and around Amman, Jordan in January 2011 by veteran cinematographer Ray Peschke, and edited by Debbie Berman. In addition to an original score by composer, Omar Fadel, the United also features a vocal collaboration between three of the Arab world's best known rappers, Omar Offendum, Deeb, and Salah Edin.
Synopsis
The film tells the story of a down-and-out Egyptian soccer coach, his former superstar player, and his determined granddaughter as they gather a team of the best youth soccer players from around the Arab world.
Release

Since 2010 there have been 1,800 reported acid attacks in the London, with a steep 70% rise between 2015 to 2016. Yes, the communications revolution may have brought people closer together but the world remains as diverse and large as it was decades ago. For North Americans, Britain and the rest of the United Kingdom is one of the most familiar of the world’s foreign lands. After all, while the English we speak may be different today in a number of ways, the language so many of us are familiar with today has its roots across the Atlantic Ocean. In the grand scheme, whether you live in Canada or the United States, your country, in one way or another, owes its existence to this overseas kingdom. Both countries may have gone about reaching independence very differently, but in the grand scheme both exist because of the vast empire which existed long ago. Despite the historical and language ties which we share with England and the UK, once you take a closer look at this land, there are a number of characteristics which we might think of as being rather weird. There are the generalizations and stereotypes which most us know; such as belief that the British all have bad teeth, it rains every day and the beer is always served warm. There are, actually, quite a few other things about the UK that are weird and not based on stereotype or generalization. These are the ‘little things’ that set this part of the world apart from other English speaking lands. The following video looks at some of the weirdest things a traveller might find in the United Kingdom. Our other videos have dealt with strange things like Haggis and cheese racing, so we’ll move on to some other items you may be less familiar with. Ahead are a number of things you’ll find weird (if you’re not from the UK) from various laws and foods to word pronunciations, television shows and customs. As the number of victims grows, data suggests Britain has the worst record in the developed world for assaults with household acids like bleach and drain cleaner. Only a quarter of recorded attacks have lead to charges being brought, for fear of a repeated attack or a lack of trail for police to pinpoint attackers. From gang disputes to moped thieves, why has acid become the go-to weapon for young criminals in the UK?

Yes, the communications revolution may have brought people closer together but the world remains as diverse and large as it was decades ago.
For North Americans, Britain and the rest of the United Kingdom is one of the most familiar of the world’s foreign lands. After all, while the English we speak may be different today in a number of ways, the language so many of us are familiar with today has its roots across the Atlantic Ocean. In the grand scheme, whether you live in Canada or the United States, your country, in one way or another, owes its existence to this overseas kingdom. Both countries may have gone about reaching independence very differently, but in the grand scheme both exist because of the vast empire which existed long ago.
Despite the historical and language ties which we share with England and the UK, once you take a closer look at this land, there are a number of characteristics which we might think of as being rather weird. There are the generalizations and stereotypes which most us know; such as belief that the British all have bad teeth, it rains every day and the beer is always served warm. There are, actually, quite a few other things about the UK that are weird and not based on stereotype or generalization. These are the ‘little things’ that set this part of the world apart from other English speaking lands.
The following video looks at some of the weirdest things a traveller might find in the United Kingdom. Our other videos have dealt with strange things like Haggis and cheese racing, so we’ll move on to some other items you may be less familiar with. Ahead are a number of things you’ll find weird (if you’re not from the UK) from various laws and foods to word pronunciations, television shows and customs. Of course, these doesn’t make the people of the UK weird – well, any weirder than the rest of us.

The City Of London contains the Tower, an historic landmark with a remarkable history. A mighty medieval fortress with 13 towers that throughout its 900 years, has served many functions and from the Middle Ages, it was a heavily fortified prison.
After the medieval St. Paul's Cathedral was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1666, Christopher Wren was ordered to re-build it with a dome. During the 36 years of its construction, its design was frequently altered until finally a wonderful masterpiece of church architecture was created.
The Monument is the city's tallest freestanding stone column and a reminder of the Great Fire of London that destroyed 80 percent of the city. In four days, more than 13,000 buildings were destroyed and the Monument was built on the site of the bakery in which the fire began.
Since the reign of Queen Victoria, Buckingham Palace has served as London's royal residence. A garden of mulberry trees once grew on the site of today's palace and the Duke of Buckingham subsequently added a simple brick built residence. Around 60 years later, George II purchased the site for his wife and George IV eventually began to design an extensive palace complex.
The highlight of any holiday in London must be the largest Ferris wheel in the world, the London Eye. Situated on the banks of the Thames, it rises high into the sky, opposite the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
The former centre of the largest empire in the world, London is still a city of superlatives that attracts millions of visitors each year. Exciting both day and night, London is a modern city with age old traditions and a long and colorful history.

Vice is an international magazine focused on arts, culture, and news topics. Founded in 1994 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in later years the company expanded into Vice Media, with divisions including the magazine, a website, a film production company, a record label, and a publishing imprint. As of March 2013, the magazine's editor-in-chief is Rocco Castoro[2] and its global editor is documentary filmmaker Andy Capper.[3]
The magazine's editors have championed the "Immersionist" school of journalism, regarded as a DIY antithesis to the methods practiced by mainstream news outlets, and the monthly publication is frequently focused on a single theme.
Established by Suroosh Alvi, Shane Smith, and Gavin McInnes, the magazine was launched in 1994 as the Voice of Montreal with government funding, and the intention of the founders was to provide work and a community service.[4]
When the editors later sought to dissolve their commitments with the original publisher Alix Laurent, they bought him out and changed the name to Vice in 1996. In search of more streetwear advertising income, the magazine's personnel relocated to New York City in 1999.[5] Andy Capper co-founded the UK division of Vice with Andrew Creighton.
Numerous media sources reported in mid-August 2013 that Rupert Murdoch's corporation 21st Century Fox had invested US$70 million in Vice Media, resulting in a 5 percent stake. Entire issues of the magazine have also been dedicated to the concerns of Iraqi people,[8] Native Americans,[9] Russian people,[10] people with mental disorders,[11] and people with mental disabilities.[12] Vice also publishes an annual guide for students in the United Kingdom.[13]
In 2007, a Vice announcement was published on the Internet: "After umpteen years of putting out what amounted to a reference book every month, we started to get bored with it. Besides, too many other magazines have ripped it and started doing their own lame take on themes. So we're going to do some issues, starting now, that have whatever we feel like putting in them."[14]
Politics
In a March 2008 interview with The Guardian, Smith was asked about the magazine's political allegiances and he stated, "We're not trying to say anything politically in a paradigmatic left/right way ... We don't do that because we don't believe in either side. Are my politics Democrat or Republican? I think both are horrific. And it doesn't matter anyway. Money runs America; money runs everywhere."[4]
Founder Smith has stated: "I grew up being a socialist and I have problems with it because I grew up in Canada [and] I've spent a lot of time in Scandinavia, where I believe countries legislate out creativity. They cut off the tall trees. Everyone's a C-minus. I came to America from Canada because Canada is stultifyingly boring and incredibly hypocritical. Thanks, Canada."[5]

In a March 2008 interview with The Guardian, Smith was asked about the magazine's political allegiances and he stated, "We're not trying to say anything politically in a paradigmatic left/right way ... We don't do that because we don't believe in either side. Are my politics Democrat or Republican? I think both are horrific. And it doesn't matter anyway. Money runs America; money runs everywhere."[4]
Founder Smith has stated: "I grew up being a socialist and I have problems with it because I grew up in Canada [and] I've spent a lot of time in Scandinavia, where I believe countries legislate out creativity. They cut off the tall trees. Everyone's a C-minus. I came to America from Canada because Canada is stultifyingly boring and incredibly hypocritical. Thanks, Canada."[5]

Why female homelessness ? Why now? Why in London? What do we want?
Too often services are failing to address the problems faced by women sleeping rough or in invisible homelessness conditions.
According to Alexia Murphy (Director at St Mungo’s) “Women make up 26% of people who accessed homelessness services in 2013, which in real numbers is around 10,000 people. At the sharpest end of homelessness, 786 women were recorded sleeping rough in London last year”. The overall number of people recorded sleeping rough has risen by 37% since 2010 and the exact number seems to be much higher.
We also know that “there are high levels of vulnerability within the female homeless population - mental ill-health, drug and alcohol dependencies, childhoods spent in care, experiences of sexual abuse and other traumatic life experiences are all commonplace” (Crisis.org)
With the extra cuts in welfare happening now, this can only get worse for all involved.

Sharon Poon
The Marylebone Project is the largest hostel in the United Kingdom for women affected by homelessness. Sharon runs the social enterprise arm which consists of Space in Marylebone (facilities management) and Munch in Marylebone (catering). It involves some serious stuff (internal & external marketing, strategic planning, budgeting, working with external partners) and some fun stuff (taste testing, baking).
In April 2015, Sharon became the Centre Manager which involves running the operations of the Day Centre for rough sleepers. She is responsible to run activities programme and developing more employment opportunities for service users. She creates partnership opportunities with external stakeholders for fundraising and volunteering.

Faye is the founder of Unseen Tours an award-winning, not-for-profit social enterprise that offers alternative walking tours through London's most vibrant and interesting neighbourhoods, with homeless and formerly homeless guides
Each guide takes visitors through a different area of London, showing both famous landmarks and hidden gems off-the-beaten track, with their own distinctive styles, and sharing their own stories and views of homelessness.
As a social enterprise, the guides receive 60% of the ticket sales. The remaining 40% is reinvested into a common kitty out of which the guides also receive their monthly travel and mobile phone-top ups, meaning that, in real terms, they get around 80% of total ticket revenue.

The year long rape torture came to an end after the victim spoke about it to his friend two days ago after feeling ‘unbearable pain’ since the last assault on June 26.
