In archaeology, rock art is human-made markings placed on natural stone; it is largely synonymous with parietal art. A global phenomenon, rock art is found in many culturally diverse regions of the world. It has been produced in many contexts throughout human history, although the majority of rock art that has been ethnographically recorded has been produced as a part of ritual. Such artworks are often divided into three forms: petroglyphs, which are carved into the rock surface, pictographs, which are painted onto the surface, and earth figures, formed on the ground. The oldest known rock art dates from the Upper Palaeolithic period, having been found in Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa. Archaeologists studying these artworks believe that they likely had magico-religious significance.
The archaeological sub-discipline of rock art studies first developed in the late-19th century among Francophone scholars studying the Upper Palaeolithic rock art found in the cave systems of Western Europe. Rock art continues to be of importance to indigenous peoples in various parts of the world, who view them as both sacred items and significant components of their cultural patrimony. Such archaeological sites are also significant sources of cultural tourism, and have been utilised in popular culture for their aesthetic qualities.

Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts – artworks, expressing the author's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. In their most general form these activities include the production of works of art, the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art.
The oldest form of art are visual arts, which include creation of images or objects in fields including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other visual media. Architecture is often included as one of the visual arts; however, like the decorative arts, it involves the creation of objects where the practical considerations of use are essential—in a way that they usually are not in a painting, for example. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of art or the arts. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences. In modern usage after the 17th century, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, the fine arts are separated and distinguished from acquired skills in general, such as the decorative or applied arts.
Burrunggui (previously called Nourlangie Rock) is located in an outlying formation of the Arnhem Land Escarpment within the Kakadu National Park which is in the Northern Territory of Australia. It can be reached off the Kakadu Highway between Jabiru and Cooinda. The word Nourlangie derives from the Gundjeihmi language placename Nawurlandja which is actually the name of a smaller rock outcrop at the Anbangbang billabong.
There are a number of shelters in amongst this large outcrop linked by a 1.5 km circular walk. The shelters contain several impressive paintings that deal with Aboriginal mythology. The full details of the stories connected to these artworks are known only to certain Aboriginal people but interpretive signage is present at the art sites to assist visitors in understanding these rock art treasures.
The Anbangbang Shelter drawings are some of the most famous in the National Park. They were last worked upon in 1964 by Nayombolmi, a member of the Badmardi clan.

The Drakensberg Experience is centred on the Drakensberg World Heritage Site, which includes Giant's Castle and the Central and Northern Drakensberg. Known to the Zulu people as uKhahlamba ('barrier of spears'), the Drakensberg mountains ('dragon mountains') provide a magnificent semi-circular border between KwaZulu-Natal and the inland mountain kingdom of Lesotho. This 200km-long mountain range has witnessed many historical events in South Africa's history. The San people were probably the first to gaze upon its magnificence, but they tragically disappeared in the late 19th century, leaving only engraved rock walls and artefacts to remember them by. The same range was also the western boundary of the mighty Zulu kingdom, encountered by the Boer settlers around 1837 on their Great Trek n...

On the first episode of "The Art of Punk" we dissect the art of the legendary Black Flag. From the iconic four bars symbols, to the many coveted and collected gig flyers, singles, and band t-shirts, all depicting the distinctive Indian ink drawn image and text by artist Raymond Pettibon. We start off in Los Angeles talking to two founding members singer Keith Morris, and bass player Chuck Dukowski, about what the scene was like in 1976 - setting the stage for the band's formation, as well as the bands name, and the creation of the iconic four bars symbol. Raymond Pettibon talks with us from his New York art studio. Back in LA we meet with Flea, from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, about how the art, the music, and that early LA scene impacted his own life and career. To wrap it all up we sit an...

Hot lover, turn up the heat
I want your sugar, girl your love tastes so sweet
I feel a fire burnin’ under me
I’ve got a hunger that you love’s gotta feed
You make me sweat, you turn me ’round
You get me up, you never let me down
You make me rock hard, baby all night
Love’s like a glove and it fits just rights
You make me rock hard, so baby hold tight
Come on baby, let’s rock hard, baby all night
I’m under a physical spell
I’m a prisoner and your love is my cell
Once I get started I can’t stop
I can’t cool down ’cause this love is so hot
