Goodnight!

The last two games were pretty high in entertainment value, the first not so much. Penrith really should have put the Cowboys to the sword much earlier; Paul Green's side are nothing if not gutsy. I liked the penalty try in the Storm game - it was a cynical foul and deserved to cost the Roosters four or six points. See you next week. I have a book out called Touchstones, which you can buy here.

Now, the podcast on autoplay!

Fulltime at Pepper Stadium: PENRITH 24 NORTH QUEENSLAND 16

PENRITH have worn down an injury-hit but courageous North Queensland to register their sixth consecutive win.

Cowboys fullback Lachlan Coote memorably took a shot for field goal with his side behind by two late in the match, with Nathan Cleary's try sealing victory for the mountain men.

It was the second try for the teenaged Cleary, whose stature in the game continues to grow,

COMMENT: The most courageous defeat I've seen all year. The Cowboys were battered, bruised and depleted but refused to yield.

74 min: Cleary try, goal

Terry Lamb is back! Lachlan Coote has attempted a field goal while down by two! It misses. And a minute later, Nathan Cleary bounces out of a couple of tackles and scores to the left of the posts. That's it. Must be close to the most courageous loss of the season. Stirring stuff from the Cowboys. Cleary converts from in front. Penrith 18-16.

What a defensive stint from the Cowboys. They concede a one-on-one steal on their own line on the first tackle and still hold the Panthers out! Penrith 18-16.

59 min: Tamou try, Cleary goal

James Tamou is too hard to stop close to the line after a short ball from Peter Wallace. Jason Taumalolo and Lachlan Coote are no match for him. It's just to the left of the posts. Nathan Cleary edges the Pennies in front. Penrith 18-16.

54 min: Hess NO TRY

Coen Hess is over the tryline but Matt Cecchin says he was held up. It came from a dropped ball by Dallin Watene-Zelezniak. Nathan Cleary has attempted to hold him but has he? The on-field decision is 'no try' but the replay suggests the point of the ball touched the grass. It's 'no try'. North Queensland 16-12.

50 min: Cleary try, goal

Tyrone Peachey centre-kicks for Nathan Cleary. Cleary is cleared as being onside. The Bunker wants to check if Dylan Edwards knocked on. It's a try. North Queensland 16-12.

45 min: Taumalolo try, Lowe goal

And against all the odds, Jason Taumalolo extends North Queensland's lead. The New Zealand star charges onto the ball steps off each foot, and barrels over. Ethan Lowe converts from in front. North Queensland 16-6.

Final half for the night. The Cowboys get to the end of their first set and Lachlan Coote kicks. Michael Morgan won't be back tonight. North Queensland 10-6.

Halftime at Pepper Stadium: NORTH QUEENSLAND 10 PENRITH 6

INJURY-HIT North Queensland holds a four-point advantage over Penrith by halftime at Pepper Stadium.

Aready without superstars Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott, the Cowboys have suffered further casualties in Justin O'Neill (elbow), Kane Linnett and Michael Morgan (both concussion) in the opening stanza at the foot of the mountains.

But are still on top of the home side, with captain Morgan's 27th minute converted try proving the difference.

COMMENT: It will take all the Cowboys courage and resilience to overcome their injuries and win this.

27 min: Morgan try, Lowe goal

Cowboys captain and halfback Michael Morgan collects a rebound off the goalpost pads after Jake Granville's kick. Ethan Lowe converts from in front. North Queensland 10-6.

21 min: Mansour try, Cleary goal

Australia and Lebanon winger Josh Mansour gets the ball near the western touchline and the defence just stops. Scott Bolton watches Mansour run straight past him before touching down between the posts. Halfback Nathan Cleary converts. Meanwhile, Kane Linnett is off the field for a concussion test. Penrith 6-4.

North Queensland centre Justin O'Neill is off with an elbow injury. It's his left. Looks doubtful he'll be back. North Queensland 4-0.

9 min: Linnett try

Kane Linnett scores the opening try of the match after a slew of possession for North Queensland. Ethan Lowe's conversion attempt hits an upright. North Queensland 4-0.

And we are underway at Pepper Stadium. Penrith with the ball, running it from the south. Now Lachlan Coote looks to have been taken out by Tyrone Peachey. Penrith 0 North Queensland 0 .

Fulltime at AAMI Park: MELBOURNE 16 SYDNEY ROOSTERS 13

A 77TH minute try to forward Joe Stimson looks to have secured the minor premiership for Melbourne in a dramatic top-of-the-table clash with Sydney Roosters.

In a match which saw a penalty try and a flying kung fu kick from Storm winger Suiliasi Vunivalu, Bill Slater's fumble allowed Sydney Roosters five-eighth Luke Keary to kick what looked like the winning field goal with seven minutes left.

But Melbourne - who earlier had another try chalked off for an obstruction some 90 metres off the tryline with the Bunker not consulted - had one last shot at the line and Stimson managed to get the ball down.

COMMENT: A gripping and controversial game which sets the scene for an intriguing finals series.

76 min: Stimson try

After Cooper Cronk's field goal attempt is charged down, Joe Stimson scores! Gerard Sutton has gone to the Bunker but he says it's a try. He gets under Connor Watson. It's a try! Cameron Smith's conversion attempt hits an upright. There were just three minutes left! Melbourne 16-13.

73 min: Keary field goal

After Pearce's field goal shot is shut down by dogged defence, Luke Keary kicks it from 25 metres out and in front. Sydney Roosters 13-12.

And Billy Slater fumbles a kick on his own quarter! The Roosters will get the feed and a chance to boot a penalty goal! 12-12.
