Zachary Taylor (November 24, 1784 – July 9, 1850) was the 12th President of the United States, serving from March 1849 until his death in July 1850. Before his presidency, Taylor was a career officer in the United States Army, rising to the rank of major general.
Taylor's status as a national hero as a result of his victories in the Mexican-American War won him election to the White House despite his vague political beliefs. His top priority as president was preserving the Union, but he died seventeen months into his term, before making any progress on the status of slavery, which had been inflaming tensions in Congress.
Taylor was born into a prominent family of planters who migrated westward from Virginia to Kentucky in his youth. He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1808 and made a name for himself as a captain in the War of 1812. He climbed the ranks establishing military forts along the Mississippi River and entered the Black Hawk War as a colonel in 1832. His success in the Second Seminole War attracted national attention and earned him the nickname "Old Rough and Ready".
Jack Bauer is a fictional character and the lead protagonist of the Fox television series 24. His character has worked in various capacities on the show, often as a member of the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) based in Los Angeles, and working with the FBI in Washington, D.C. during season 7. Within the 24 storyline, Bauer is a key member of the CTU, actually its director in Season 1, and is often portrayed as their most capable agent. Bauer's job usually involves helping prevent major terrorist attacks on the United States, saving both civilian lives and government administrations. On many occasions, Jack does so at great personal expense, as those he thwarts subsequently target him and his loved ones. He is not a crooked agent; however, Bauer's frequent use of torture to gather information has generated much controversy and discussion.
Actor Kiefer Sutherland portrays Jack Bauer in the television show and video game. The television series was originally set to end on May 24, 2010 after eight successful seasons but was renewed for a ninth season, which premiered on May 5, 2014. A feature film was set to be released; however, discussions ended over a contract dispute with Fox.

Natural Sound Liberia's President Charles Taylor vowed not to attack the U-S Embassy again in Liberia, where a former warlord accused of treason has been holed up since the weekend. The embassy has been on alert since the warlord Roosevelt Johnson unexpectedly arrived at the gate on Saturday morning. His arrival sparked a police commando attack that killed at least three of his supporters and wounded two Americans. The U-S embassy in Liberia's capital Monrovia has said that Roosevelt Johnson, the ethnic Krahn civil war rival of President Charles Taylor, had taken refuge there. It also warned Taylor not to allow a street protest outside the building. Reinforcements have been flown in to help guard the embassy following the attack upon the building over the weekend by a co...

"Zachary Taylor" on this segment of the President's Day episode of Kentucky Life on KET. Despite the fact that Louisiana is considered his home state, Zachary Taylor, who was president from 1849-1850, has many ties to Kentucky. Born in Virginia in 1785, he was raised here on a farm two miles east of Louisville, on Muddy Fork of Beargrass Creek. He married in Kentucky and five of his six children were born here. In later life, his home was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was a slaveholder with a cotton plantation in Mississippi. A career military man, "Old Rough and Ready" became a national hero in the Mexican-American War—and a perfect choice for presidential candidate among Southerners. After Taylor was elected president in 1848, he surprised everyone by rejecting the extension of ...

John Robson of TheRebel.com: "July 9 is the anniversary of the death of Zachary Taylor from cholera in 1850. Which might sound sad for him but irrelevant to the rest of us. Except that Taylor was the 2nd, and last, Whig elected to the Presidency and the 2nd Whig president to die suddenly early in his first term. And the failure of the Whigs to develop into a full alternative to the Democrats in the two decades leading up to the Civil War is a major cause of that conflict. So these two medical accidents, small and random in themselves, contributed to it as well."
This incredible duo teamed up to perform an original song for Ellen! They may not have had a lot of rehearsal, but it's clear that this is one musical combo it would be great to hear a lot more of.
