-Y probar las tlayudas, las aguas frescas y el tradicional "tejate" que es una bebida base maíz y cacao.
*Almorzar sabroso*
-En "Las Manos Mágicas" se come delicioso y a un precio razonable, mi favorito es el "Tasajo" un corte de carne delicioso, acompáñalo con unas enchiladas y agua fresca.
*Visita el Árbol del Tule*
-Puedes tomar un tour o un taxi, queda a media hora (sin tráfico) de Oaxaca, es el árbol más ancho del planeta. Trátalo con respeto.
*Nadar en Hierve el Agua*
-Es un lugar increíble al que puedes llegar en auto o en autobus de tour. Queda a dos horas de la ciudad. Recuerda llevar traje de baño y toalla. La vista es espectacular. Tenemos más info acerca de Hierve el Agua en nuestro blog, más adelante te dejo el link para que sepas todo.
*Visitar Monte Albán*
Puedes llegar en Taxi o en transporte colectivo. La mayoría de los Tours incluyen Monte Albán. Te recomiendo mucho ver el atardecer allá.

In the first episode of Munchies Guide to Oaxaca, host Daniel Hernandez dives right into the belly of Oaxacan food by starting his visit at the Mercado 20 de Noviembre, one of the old-school markets in the historic center of Oaxaca City. Here, he samples local fare like tejate, chilacayote, tasajo, andchapulines, Oaxaca's famous toasted grasshoppers. Since everyone needs a recharge, Daniel then visits a classic Oaxaca City cantina called El Chato, and has the house special, a Mexican lager in a salted, lime-crusted glass. Later that night, he dines with chef Alejandro Ruiz, at the temple of contemporary Oaxaca cuisine, Casa Oaxaca.

Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most unique states, noted for its rich traditional heritage and diverse ethnic population, as well as for its artistic, cultural, and culinary treasures. This video will cover the many sights and UNESCO World heritage sights to photograph in this region.
1. Oaxaca City (7:23 - 9:35)
Designated UNESCO Site noted for its Spanish colonial architecture. It is filled with colorful, wonderfully preserved
buildings.
2. Markets (8:18 - 8:23)
Oaxaca is known as the "Land of the Seven Moles", a complex sauce used with meat and rice. But that is not all. Oaxaca is renowned for its unique regional cuisines. The markets are a great way to try the food.
3. Mezcal Factory Tour (2:06 - 2:50)
Mezcal is one of Oaxaca's most famous exports. It is similar to tequila, only with a rich smoky flavor. Mezcal comes in many unique flavors and different aging categories including a variety that comes with a worm for added flavor. Check out the Mezcal Factories where they will show you just how this liquid gold is made.
4. Textiles (1:14 - 2:00)
Oaxaca is world famous for its textiles. They are created using natural dyes and wool. The textile patterns mimic the design elements from the Mitla, an archeological site with distinctive geometric patterns, making them distinctive from any other textiles.
5. Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman (7:36 - 8:00)
Glorious Baroque church found in Oaxaca City. It includes lavishly ornate interior. Construction started in the 16th Century but did not complete until the 17th Century. The town cathedral is witness to all the cultural activities taking place beneath its facade, including weddings and festivals.
6. Árbol del Tule (0:40 - 1:10)
Botanists estimate this tree to be 2,000 years old. It is considered the largest and oldest tree in the world with a perimeter at 139 feet in circumference. It didn't even fit into one picture frame!
7. Hierve de Agua (3:50 - 4:30)
One of the most surreal landscape I have ever seen is Hierve de Agua, found about two hours outside of the city. The name translates to "place where the water boils", and contains non-thermal pools, and natural rock formations rising form the valley below including the main highlight, a petrified waterfall. It was created by minerals that pushed through limestone, depositing onto the mountain. You can hike to the "waterfall" or wade around in the mineral pools.
8. Zocalo and Basilica of Our Lady of Solitude (8:23 - 8:36)
The Zocalo is the central plaza in Oaxaca City that includes a Spanish Baroque style church, Basilica of our Lady of Solitude. The Zocalo is connected by a pedestrian walkway to the other plaza, Santo Domingo. Along the Zocalo are many street shops and markets.
9. Mitla (2:30 - 3:46)
One of the famous archeology sites which translates to "place of the dead". Mitla was an ancient burial and funeral ritual site for the Zapotec people, one of Oaxaca's indigenous groups. It includes one of the few surviving temples, noted for its distinctive small tile mosaic-like geometric patterns in the facade.
10. Monte Albán (6:00 - 7:28)
Monte Albán is so amazing, that it deserves its own blog post (coming soon). It is a UNESCO World Heritage site found about 20 minutes outside of the city. It is the first great city of Mesoamerica and dates back to 500 or 600 BCE. The Zapotec people leveled the mountains by hand (no metal tools or even wheels) to build their ceremonial center known as Monte Albán here, complete with temples or astronomical and religious purposes. Mitla and Monte Albán give you an idea of just how advanced this indigenous civilization was in its heyday.

Oaxaca
Oaxaca (English /wəˈhɑːkə/ wə-HAH-kə, Spanish: [waˈxaka], from Nahuatl: Huāxyacac [waːʃ.ˈjá.kak]), officially Free and Sovereign State of Oaxaca (Spanish: Estado Libre y Soberano de Oaxaca), is one of the 31 states which, along with the Federal District, make up the 32 federative entities of Mexico. It is divided into 570 municipalities, of which 418 (almost three quarters) are governed by the system of Usos y costumbres (customs and traditions) with recognized local forms of self governance. Its capital city is Oaxaca de Juárez.
Oaxaca is located in Southwestern Mexico. It is bordered by the states of Guerrero to the west, Puebla to the northwest, Veracruz to the north, Chiapas to the east. To the south, Oaxaca has a significant coastline on the Pacific Ocean.
The state is best known for its indigenous peoples and cultures. The most numerous and best known are the Zapotecs and the Mixtecs, but there are sixteen that are officially recognized. These cultures have survived better than most others in Mexico due to the state's rugged and isolating terrain. Most live in the Central Valleys region, which is also an important area for tourism, attracting people for its archeological sites such as Monte Albán, native culture and crafts. Another important tourist area is the coast, which has the major resort of Huatulco. Oaxaca is also one of the most biologically diverse states in Mexico, ranking in the top three, along with Chiapas and Veracruz, for numbers of reptiles, amphibians, mammals and plants.

Monte Albán
Monte Albán is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site in the Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán Municipality in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca (17.043° N, 96.767°W). The site is located on a low mountainous range rising above the plain in the central section of the Valley of Oaxaca where the latter's northern Etla, eastern Tlacolula, and southern Zimatlán & Ocotlán (or Valle Grande) branches meet. The present-day state capital Oaxaca City is located approximately 9 km (6 mi) east of Monte Albán.
The partially excavated civic-ceremonial center of the Monte Albán site is situated atop an artificially-leveled ridge, which with an elevation of about 1,940 m (6,400 ft) above mean sea level rises some 400 m (1,300 ft) from the valley floor, in an easily defensible location. In addition to the aforementioned monumental core, the site is characterized by several hundred artificial terraces, and a dozen clusters of mounded architecture covering the entire ridgeline and surrounding flanks (Blanton 1978). The archaeological ruins on the nearby Atzompa and El Gallo hills to the north are traditionally considered to be an integral part of the ancient city as well.

Oaxaca City
The city and municipality of Oaxaca de Juárez, or simply Oaxaca, is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of the same name. It is located in the Centro District in the Central Valleys region of the state, on the foothills of the Sierra Madre at the base of the Cerro del Fortín extending to the banks of the Atoyac River. This city relies heavily on tourism, which is based on its large number of colonial-era structures as well as the native Zapotec and Mixtec cultures and archeological sites. It, along with the archeological site of Monte Albán, were named a World Heritage Site in 1987. It is also the home of the month-long cultural festival called the "Guelaguetza", which features Oaxacan dance from the seven regions, music and a beauty pageant for indigenous women.
It is nicknamed "la Verde Antequera" (the green Antequera) due to its prior name (Nueva Antequera) and the variety of structures built from a native green stone. The name Oaxaca is derived from the Nahuatl name for the place, Huaxyacac, which was Hispanicized to Guajaca, later spelled Oaxaca. "de Juárez" was added in honor of Benito Juárez, who was a native of this state. The coat of arms for the municipality bears the image of the decapitated Donaji, who was an indigenous princess in the years immediately after the Conquest.

Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most unique states, noted for its rich traditional heritage and diverse ethnic population, as well as for its artistic, cultural, and culinary treasures. This video will cover the many sights and UNESCO World heritage sights to photograph in this region. 1. Oaxaca City (7:23 - 9:35) Designated UNESCO Site noted for its Spanish colonial architecture. It is filled with colorful, wonderfully preserved buildings. 2. Markets (8:18 - 8:23) Oaxaca is known as the "Land of the Seven Moles", a complex sauce used with meat and rice. But that is not all. Oaxaca is renowned for its unique regional cuisines. The markets are a great way to try the food. 3. Mezcal Factory Tour (2:06 - 2:50) Mezcal is one of Oaxaca's most famous exports. It is similar to tequila, only with a rich smoky flavor. Mezcal comes in many unique flavors and different aging categories including a variety that comes with a worm for added flavor. Check out the Mezcal Factories where they will show you just how this liquid gold is made. 4. Textiles (1:14 - 2:00) Oaxaca is world famous for its textiles. They are created using natural dyes and wool. The textile patterns mimic the design elements from the Mitla, an archeological site with distinctive geometric patterns, making them distinctive from any other textiles. 5. Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman (7:36 - 8:00) Glorious Baroque church found in Oaxaca City. It includes lavishly ornate interior. Construction started in the 16th Century but did not complete until the 17th Century. The town cathedral is witness to all the cultural activities taking place beneath its facade, including weddings and festivals. 6. Árbol del Tule (0:40 - 1:10) Botanists estimate this tree to be 2,000 years old. It is considered the largest and oldest tree in the world with a perimeter at 139 feet in circumference. It didn't even fit into one picture frame! 7. Hierve de Agua (3:50 - 4:30) One of the most surreal landscape I have ever seen is Hierve de Agua, found about two hours outside of the city. The name translates to "place where the water boils", and contains non-thermal pools, and natural rock formations rising form the valley below including the main highlight, a petrified waterfall. It was created by minerals that pushed through limestone, depositing onto the mountain. You can hike to the "waterfall" or wade around in the mineral pools. 8. Zocalo and Basilica of Our Lady of Solitude (8:23 - 8:36) The Zocalo is the central plaza in Oaxaca City that includes a Spanish Baroque style church, Basilica of our Lady of Solitude. The Zocalo is connected by a pedestrian walkway to the other plaza, Santo Domingo. Along the Zocalo are many street shops and markets. 9. Mitla (2:30 - 3:46) One of the famous archeology sites which translates to "place of the dead". Mitla was an ancient burial and funeral ritual site for the Zapotec people, one of Oaxaca's indigenous groups. It includes one of the few surviving temples, noted for its distinctive small tile mosaic-like geometric patterns in the facade. 10. Monte Albán (6:00 - 7:28) Monte Albán is so amazing, that it deserves its own blog post (coming soon). It is a UNESCO World Heritage site found about 20 minutes outside of the city. It is the first great city of Mesoamerica and dates back to 500 or 600 BCE. The Zapotec people leveled the mountains by hand (no metal tools or even wheels) to build their ceremonial center known as Monte Albán here, complete with temples or astronomical and religious purposes. Esta es una guía para que sepas qué hacer en Oaxaca el día que la visites, te la vas a pasar increíble en tu viaje. Esto es lo que hay que hacer en Oaxaca: *Levantarte temprano y ver amanecer en el templo de Santo Domingo* -Recorre su interior y disfrútalo para ti solito antes de que los grupos de turistas lo abarroten. *Explorar el mercado principal* -Y probar las tlayudas, las aguas frescas y el tradicional "tejate" que es una bebida base maíz y cacao. *Almorzar sabroso* -En "Las Manos Mágicas" se come delicioso y a un precio razonable, mi favorito es el "Tasajo" un corte de carne delicioso, acompáñalo con unas enchiladas y agua fresca. *Visita el Árbol del Tule* -Puedes tomar un tour o un taxi, queda a media hora (sin tráfico) de Oaxaca, es el árbol más ancho del planeta. Puedes llegar en Taxi o en transporte colectivo. La mayoría de los Tours incluyen Monte Albán. Te recomiendo mucho ver el atardecer allá.

In the first episode of Munchies Guide to Oaxaca, host Daniel Hernandez dives right into the belly of Oaxacan food by starting his visit at the Mercado 20 de Noviembre, one of the old-school markets in the historic center of Oaxaca City. Here, he samples local fare like tejate, chilacayote, tasajo, andchapulines, Oaxaca's famous toasted grasshoppers. Since everyone needs a recharge, Daniel then visits a classic Oaxaca City cantina called El Chato, and has the house special, a Mexican lager in a salted, lime-crusted glass. Later that night, he dines with chef Alejandro Ruiz, at the temple of contemporary Oaxaca cuisine, Casa Oaxaca.

Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most unique states, noted for its rich traditional heritage and diverse ethnic population, as well as for its artistic, cultural, and culinary treasures. This video will cover the many sights and UNESCO World heritage sights to photograph in this region.
1. Oaxaca City (7:23 - 9:35)
Designated UNESCO Site noted for its Spanish colonial architecture. It is filled with colorful, wonderfully preserved
buildings.
2. Markets (8:18 - 8:23)
Oaxaca is known as the "Land of the Seven Moles", a complex sauce used with meat and rice. But that is not all. Oaxaca is renowned for its unique regional cuisines. The markets are a great way to try the food.
3. Mezcal Factory Tour (2:06 - 2:50)
Mezcal is one of Oaxaca's most famous exports. It is similar to tequila, only with a rich smoky flavor. Mezcal comes in many unique flavors and different aging categories including a variety that comes with a worm for added flavor. Check out the Mezcal Factories where they will show you just how this liquid gold is made.
4. Textiles (1:14 - 2:00)
Oaxaca is world famous for its textiles. They are created using natural dyes and wool. The textile patterns mimic the design elements from the Mitla, an archeological site with distinctive geometric patterns, making them distinctive from any other textiles.
5. Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman (7:36 - 8:00)
Glorious Baroque church found in Oaxaca City. It includes lavishly ornate interior. Construction started in the 16th Century but did not complete until the 17th Century. The town cathedral is witness to all the cultural activities taking place beneath its facade, including weddings and festivals.
6. Árbol del Tule (0:40 - 1:10)
Botanists estimate this tree to be 2,000 years old. It is considered the largest and oldest tree in the world with a perimeter at 139 feet in circumference. It didn't even fit into one picture frame!
7. Hierve de Agua (3:50 - 4:30)
One of the most surreal landscape I have ever seen is Hierve de Agua, found about two hours outside of the city. The name translates to "place where the water boils", and contains non-thermal pools, and natural rock formations rising form the valley below including the main highlight, a petrified waterfall. It was created by minerals that pushed through limestone, depositing onto the mountain. You can hike to the "waterfall" or wade around in the mineral pools.
8. Zocalo and Basilica of Our Lady of Solitude (8:23 - 8:36)
The Zocalo is the central plaza in Oaxaca City that includes a Spanish Baroque style church, Basilica of our Lady of Solitude. The Zocalo is connected by a pedestrian walkway to the other plaza, Santo Domingo. Along the Zocalo are many street shops and markets.
9. Mitla (2:30 - 3:46)
One of the famous archeology sites which translates to "place of the dead". Mitla was an ancient burial and funeral ritual site for the Zapotec people, one of Oaxaca's indigenous groups. It includes one of the few surviving temples, noted for its distinctive small tile mosaic-like geometric patterns in the facade.
10. Monte Albán (6:00 - 7:28)
Monte Albán is so amazing, that it deserves its own blog post (coming soon). It is a UNESCO World Heritage site found about 20 minutes outside of the city. It is the first great city of Mesoamerica and dates back to 500 or 600 BCE. The Zapotec people leveled the mountains by hand (no metal tools or even wheels) to build their ceremonial center known as Monte Albán here, complete with temples or astronomical and religious purposes. Mitla and Monte Albán give you an idea of just how advanced this indigenous civilization was in its heyday.

36 Hours in Oaxaca, Mexico
The state of Oaxaca is one of the most diverse and beautiful in Mexico. It would take a lifetime to fully absorb such a place...so naturally, we decided to try and cram all of it into 36 hours. The capital city sits in the Sierra Madre mountains, at the foot of Cerro del Fortín, and features some of the country's most beautiful colonial architecture and richest indigenous culture. We managed to stroll along the Zócalo, the city's central plaza, take in the markets and art, throw back a few shots of mezcal, and still make it out of the city for the gorgeous Hierve el Agua rock formations and to visit Santa María del Tule, a small town that's home to one of the oldest trees in the world. In March 2015, my class of 14 students conducted a field trip to Oaxaca, Mexico, where offers documentary filmmakers many diverse opportunities for discovering subjects and stories. In Oaxaca, we worked with Ms. Mimi Edmunds, the Emmy-nominated producer who credits include 60 Minutes, CBS’ documentary unit, to conduct shooting for our individual documentary. Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most unique states, noted for its rich traditional heritage and diverse ethnic population, as well as for its artistic, cultural, and culinary treasures. This video will cover the many sights and UNESCO World heritage sights to photograph in this region.
1. Oaxaca City (7:23 - 9:35)
Designated UNESCO Site noted for its Spanish colonial architecture. It is filled with colorful, wonderfully preserved
buildings.
2. Markets (8:18 - 8:23)
Oaxaca is known as the "Land of the Seven Moles", a complex sauce used with meat and rice. But that is not all. Oaxaca is renowned for its unique regional cuisines. The markets are a great way to try the food.
3. Mezcal Factory Tour (2:06 - 2:50)
Mezcal is one of Oaxaca's most famous exports. It is similar to tequila, only with a rich smoky flavor. Mezcal comes in many unique flavors and different aging categories including a variety that comes with a worm for added flavor. Check out the Mezcal Factories where they will show you just how this liquid gold is made.
4. Textiles (1:14 - 2:00)
Oaxaca is world famous for its textiles. They are created using natural dyes and wool. The textile patterns mimic the design elements from the Mitla, an archeological site with distinctive geometric patterns, making them distinctive from any other textiles.
5. Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman (7:36 - 8:00)
Glorious Baroque church found in Oaxaca City. It includes lavishly ornate interior. Construction started in the 16th Century but did not complete until the 17th Century. The town cathedral is witness to all the cultural activities taking place beneath its facade, including weddings and festivals.
6. Árbol del Tule (0:40 - 1:10)
Botanists estimate this tree to be 2,000 years old. It is considered the largest and oldest tree in the world with a perimeter at 139 feet in circumference. It didn't even fit into one picture frame!
7. Hierve de Agua (3:50 - 4:30)
One of the most surreal landscape I have ever seen is Hierve de Agua, found about two hours outside of the city. The name translates to "place where the water boils", and contains non-thermal pools, and natural rock formations rising form the valley below including the main highlight, a petrified waterfall. It was created by minerals that pushed through limestone, depositing onto the mountain. You can hike to the "waterfall" or wade around in the mineral pools.
8. Zocalo and Basilica of Our Lady of Solitude (8:23 - 8:36)
The Zocalo is the central plaza in Oaxaca City that includes a Spanish Baroque style church, Basilica of our Lady of Solitude. The Zocalo is connected by a pedestrian walkway to the other plaza, Santo Domingo. Along the Zocalo are many street shops and markets.
9. Mitla (2:30 - 3:46)
One of the famous archeology sites which translates to "place of the dead". Mitla was an ancient burial and funeral ritual site for the Zapotec people, one of Oaxaca's indigenous groups. It includes one of the few surviving temples, noted for its distinctive small tile mosaic-like geometric patterns in the facade.
10. Monte Albán (6:00 - 7:28)
Monte Albán is so amazing, that it deserves its own blog post (coming soon). It is a UNESCO World Heritage site found about 20 minutes outside of the city. It is the first great city of Mesoamerica and dates back to 500 or 600 BCE. The Zapotec people leveled the mountains by hand (no metal tools or even wheels) to build their ceremonial center known as Monte Albán here, complete with temples or astronomical and religious purposes. Mitla and Monte Albán give you an idea of just how advanced this indigenous civilization was in its heyday.

The state of Oaxaca is one of the most diverse and beautiful in Mexico. It would take a lifetime to fully absorb such a place...so naturally, we decided to try and cram all of it into 36 hours. The capital city sits in the Sierra Madre mountains, at the foot of Cerro del Fortín, and features some of the country's most beautiful colonial architecture and richest indigenous culture.
We managed to stroll along the Zócalo, the city's central plaza, take in the markets and art, throw back a few shots of mezcal, and still make it out of the city for the gorgeous Hierve el Agua rock formations and to visit Santa María del Tule, a small town that's home to one of the oldest trees in the world. Was it enough? Well, no, not even close. But it wasn't too shabby an effort for 36 hours.

Individual documentary produced by Sylvia Cong and Kris North.
This is a project for my International Documentary Production class. In March 2015, my class of 14 students conducted a field trip to Oaxaca, Mexico, where offers documentary filmmakers many diverse opportunities for discovering subjects and stories. In Oaxaca, we worked with Ms. Mimi Edmunds, the Emmy-nominated producer who credits include 60 Minutes, CBS’ documentary unit, to conduct shooting for our individual documentary.
Within the 9 days in Oaxaca, we conducted field interviews with the local Oaxaquenõs; we did research about the culture, tradition, and history; and we shoot stories about the local art, food, architecture, archeological sites, and music. Each team cooperates，but also work individually on their own theme.
My documentary is in a form of a travel log. I use the camera as my eyes, from a tourist`s perspective, to explore the city and the stories within it. The premier was at Purdue University on May 5th.

Here, he samples local fare like tejate, chilacayote, tasajo, andchapulines, Oaxaca's famous toasted grasshoppers. Since everyone needs a recharge, Daniel then visits a classic Oaxaca City cantina called El Chato, and has the house special, a Mexican lager in a salted, lime-crusted glass. Later that night, he dines with chef Alejandro Ruiz, at the temple of contemporary Oaxaca cuisine, Casa Oaxaca.
