The College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) has again excelled in the latest round of QS World University rankings.

Anthropology and Archaeology have been ranked for the first time in the QS World rankings, receiving rankings of 7th and 8th in the world respectively, and number one in Australia. Social Policy and Administration has also been featured as part of the rankings and has been ranked 14th in the world and number one in Australia.

These 2015/16 subject results come after ANU was ranked equal 19th in the world last year and the Arts and Humanities ‘faculty’ at ANU is ranked number 1 in Australia.

ANU was also ranked number 1 in Australia for politics/international relations (8), development studies (8), history (12), social policy and administration (14) and sociology (16), philosophy (20) and modern languages (26).

“We welcome archaeology and anthropology being ranked number one in Australia,” College Acting Dean, Professor Matthew Gray, said.

“On behalf of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, I’d like to thank all of my colleagues for their tireless work which has resulted in the university’s strength and quality in the social sciences and humanities.

“These latest rankings are a testament to our academics’ hard work and confirm the world leaders they are in their disciplines. To be ranked alongside institutions including Yale University, Stanford and University of Cambridge is something to be very proud of.”

In addition to the university’s high world rankings in many disciplines, the ANU was also placed number one in Australia in 15 subjects: Anthropology, Archaeology, Development Studies, History, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Politics and International Studies, Social Policy and Administration, Sociology, Agriculture and Forestry, Earth and Marine Sciences, Economics and Econometrics, Geography, Mathematics, and Statistics and Operational Research.
